But just one visit to this charming mountain village and you'll be hooked. Hi, I'm Veronica Hill of California Travel Tips and this is my first summer visit to Mammoth Lakes. I hear there's a ton of stuff to do, so let's go check it out. The Eastern Sierras are legendary for their beauty, and Mammoth is no exception. Though it's best known for its winter sports, Mammoth is just as fun when there's no snow on the ground. At the Main Lodge Adventure Center, kids can go rock climbing, rush down a quick-moving zip line, or go mountain biking on more than 100 miles of dirt single-track. This is also where you'll pick up the Reds Meadow Shuttle into the Ansel Adams wilderness, where you can either hike or ride on horseback to beautiful Rainbow Falls. If you come to Mammoth during the summer, you have to take the gondola ride to the top where you can go hiking, biking and check out a great interpretive center. Lake District National Park - England
The Lake District National Park is located in the north-west of England and is the largest of the English National Parks and the second largest in the United Kingdom. It is in the central and most-visited part of the Lake District. The National Park was formed in 1951 to protect the landscape by restricting unwelcome change from industry or commerce. Almost all of the land in the Park is in private ownership, with small areas belonging to the National Trust. In common with all other National Parks in England, there is no restriction on entry to or movement within the park along public routes, but access to cultivated land is usually restricted to public footpaths. The highest mountains in England are within the Park boundary. The lakes and mountains combine to form impressive scenery unique to this corner of England. THE LOST WORLD OF LAKE VOSTOK
In 1957 the Russians established a remote base in Antarctica -- the Vostok station. It soon became a byword for hardship -- dependent on an epic annual 1000km tractor journey from the coast for its supplies. The coldest temperature ever found on Earth (-89°C) was recorded here on the 21st July 1983. It's an unlikely setting for a lake of liquid water. But in the 1970's a British team used airborne radar to see beneath the ice, mapping the mountainous land buried by the Antarctic ice sheet. Flying near the Vostok base their radar trace suddenly went flat. They guessed that the flat trace could only be from water. It was the first evidence that the ice could be hiding a great secret. But 20 years passed before their suspicions were confirmed, when satellites finally revealed that there was an enormous lake under the Vostok base. It is one of the largest lakes in the world -- at 10000 square km it's about the extent of Lake Ontario, but about twice as deep (500m in places). The theory was that it could only exist because the ice acts like a giant insulating blanket, trapping enough of the earth's heat to melt the very bottom of the ice sheet.
MONO LAKE California
Mono Lake is the greatest crater lake in the world and although it is one of the oldest lakes in North America, its water is three times as salty as the sea, it is far from dead. Mysteriously and full of bizarre formations, white tuff rocks rise out of the water. Their origin is a remarkable natural wonder. The combination of both lake water and natural springs creates a white limestone sediment of calcium carbonate that is the main constituent of the tuff stones. Both the Bodie Hills, close to the northern part of the lake, and the eastern Anchorite Hills are millions of years old volcanic mountains with enchanting rock formations. Sometimes it seems as though the rock possesses a mysterious inner power. In the summer months, 50000 seagulls flock around the lake in which small salt crayfish and saltwater flies are food to millions of birds of passage.

Framed by the picturesque Wasatch and Uninta Mountains is one of the most unique lakes in the world, the Great Salt Lake in North America, that is located northwest of Salt Lake City in the state of Utah. The water has a high salt content and few creatures are able to survive within its waters. However, numerous rare species of water fowl can be found along its banks. Salt water shrimp and brine shrimp are the staple diet of the birdlife that inhabits the Great Salt Lake and it is only in the tributaries of the lake that fish are to be found. Due to the loss of its natural outflows, the Great Salt Lake lost its water by evaporation, thus creating its saltiness. The lake's four tributaries carried various minerals from the surrounding mountains into the lake and its salt content further increased. Depending on the water level, the salt content in some sections of the lake can reach up to twenty seven percent, only the Dead Sea contains more salt. The Great Salt Lake is a remarkable and unique lake and its origin and unusual beauty make it a true miracle of nature!

Beautiful Swiss Lakes: Thunersee boat trip
Our day trip on the Thunersee aboard the Bluemlisalp paddle boat with a quick stop in Interlaken. This steam paddle wheel boat was originally built in 1905 and restored in recent years to its old glory. It's really beautiful inside as well with an old-fashioned looking restaurant, bar, lots of deck seating and of course the old engine which you can watch. CRKT Lake: "$16 of Class" by Nutnfancy
Here's another winning CRKT EDC blade: the Lake 111. Designed by Ron Lake, it provides amazing class and cutting utility for its low price. The 8Cr14Mov clip blade is an excellent and precise cutter, arriving extra sharp from the box. Man that 8Cr14 and 13Mov steel sure can take an edge...almost scary. The tips are strong but precise on these satin finished hollow ground 3.1" blades. As of 2011, this little lockback folder came in two choices of handle materials, both excellent: milled aluminum or basket weave patterned Zytel. The aluminum-handled Lake #7256 is a bit more classy as it features a milled pattern and the added visual interest of brass liners (!). It's a bit heavier at 3.8 ounces than the Zytel-handled #7256Z Lake. I would like to see full skeletonizing of the Lake series to lighten them up. But both have surprisingly rocket fast deployment and solid lockups. You can thank a well though out lock bar, spring, and slick pivot bushings for this. Both knives excel in their slenderness, making them a pure joy to carry in the EDC role. You won't be bumping and scaping into things with the Lake along for the ride. The thumb studs are set into the back blade spine and provide good traction since no handle occlusions exist. The pocket clip is excellent abeit non-positionable to any other corner than where it's at (tip down). The polished finished clip on the Zytel version is exceptional in appearance.
