While Angle has reached the pinnacle at both the amateur (he won two NCAA titles as well) and the professional levels (multiple-time champion of both the WWE and TNA federations), he believes now is the time to go for Olympic glory once again. Despite his age and critics claiming he's doing it just for the publicity, Angle has been in serious Olympic-style training since the middle of 2011 in his attempt to make the 2012 US wrestling team. Nicholson challenges Kurt Angle to an amateur wrestling match. Despite stating personal injury as the reason for pulling out of the Olympic Trials, Kurt Angle still competed in the Pay-Per-View Pro Wrestling event, TNA Lockdown on April 15th 2012. Kurt Angle pulled out of the Olympic team trials this past week citing a hamstring and knee injury. Through a press release he spoke about his disappointment after training at a high level for over a year. "I'm extremely disappointed in this turn of events. Amateur wrestling is the sport that I am the best at and it was my dream to compete again at the Olympic level," said Angle. "I thought long and hard about moving forward with competing at the trials, but at this point my doctors have advised me that my condition would only worsen. Now the UFC President has responded when speaking to MMAWeekly.com where he answers the recent comments by Angle. White confirms that Angle was indeed calling and trying to get into the UFC, so he offered him a slot on the 10th season of the 'Ultimate Fighter' alongside names like Kimbo Slice and Roy Nelson. Ultimately, it didn't work out and White goes on to shoot down a couple of Angle's claims, while still maintaining that he is a good guy and someone the UFC president likes and respects.
