Oil row with Kurds stirs Iraq tensions
Iraq's Kurdish government has stopped all oil exports to Baghdad following a payment dispute. It is just one issue in the past weeks that is causing tensions between the Kurds in the north and the central authority. There are concerns that a push to sell crude oil to Kurdish markets from what is considered to be one of the last great unexplored oil regions in the world, could persuade Erbil to seek more independence from Baghdad. Al Jazeera's Jane Arraf reports from Erbil.
Blasts & killing fail to blow apart Kurdish chance in Syria
In Syria, a third bomb blast has reportedly rocked the city of iDLib, just hours after eight people were killed and dozens wounded in twin explosions there. The government and the opposition are blaming each other for orchestrating the attacks. The United Nations warns the ongoing violence threatens the peace plan it helped broker. The head of the expanding UN observer mission to Syria says the roadmap is futile, unless all sides observe a ceasefire. Meanwhile, Damascus is preparing to hold nationwide Parliamentary elections in just a week's time. But the US and its allies are still calling for regime change. Jordan-based professor Ibrahim Alloush thinks Syria fell out of favour for playing by its own rules. RT on Twitter twitter.com RT on Facebook www.facebook.com
Kurds divided by Syrian uprising
For centuries, the towns of Turkish Nusaybin and Syrian Qamishli were one, until politics put a border between them. The governments of both countries have been hard on rebellious Kurdish minorities in the region. Now, with the uprising in Syria, many Kurds see the potential for major political gains. While some want to play a greater role in the opposition, others believe Kurdish interests are best served by working with the Syrian government. Al Jazeera's Anita McNaught reports from Nusaybin in southeast Turkey.
Iraqi Kurds discover valued a trading partner
Kurdish control of oil resources in Iraqi Kurdistan is fuelling talk of independence for the semi-autonomous region. The Kurds are increasingly looking to Iran and Turkey as trading partners and, despite some border tensions, trade is booming. Al Jazeera's Jane Arraf reports from Haji Omran, on the mountainous border with Iran.
Turkey clashes video: Police fight Kurdish protesters
Turkish police used water cannon, tear gas and baton charges to break up Kurdish demonstrations across the country on Sunday and one local politician died in the protests, a sign of rising tension ahead of the Kurdish New Year this week after authorities rejected Kurdish demands to celebrate it on Monday. Turkey's pro-Kurdish party and Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) armed militants have both called for large demonstrations for Newroz, the Kurdish New Year that begins on March 21, sensing the government, which has strongly backed Arab uprisings, may be vulnerable to pressure from street protests. Both the legal Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) and the PKK are demanding a level of autonomy for the mainly Kurdish southeast of the country. RT on Twitter twitter.com RT on Facebook www.facebook.com

Kurdish refugees from Syria languish in Iraq
While focus is on the uprising in Syria which started almost a year ago, Syrian Kurds revolted years before. Riots in the mainly Kurdish city of Qamishli in 2004 were crushed by security forces. Rights groups say at least 30 people were killed in that crackdown. Thousands of Kurds crossed the border into Iraq and have been living as refugees since. Al Jazeera's Jane Arraf reports from a refugee camp in Moqableh in northern Iraq.

Halabja Halabja — city — Halabja (Kurdish: ههڵهبجه Helebce), is a Kurdish town in Northern Iraq, located about 150 miles (240 km) north-east of Baghdad and 8--10 miles from the Iranian border. The town lies at the base of what is often referred to as the greater Hewraman region stretching across the Iran-Iraq border. The Kurds in the city of Halabja generally speak only the Sorani dialect of Kurdish, but some residents of the surrounding villages speak the Hewrami dialect. History Early history Halabja has a long history. The cemetery includes the tombs of several historical figures, such as Ahmed Mukhtar Jaf, Tayar Bag Jaf and Adila Khanim. In August 2009, three 17th century tombs were discovered in the Ababile district of the town.[1] This suggests that the town is somewhat older than indicated by some sources, which claim that it was built by the Ottoman Empire circa 1850. However, modern developments date from the early 20th century. The post office opened in 1924 and the first school opened the following year. The Qaysari Pasha and Hamid Bag bazaars were built in 1932. Electricity did not reach the city until 1940. At the beginning of the 20th century, there were many British soldiers stationed in Halabja. During World War I, Adela Khanum saved the lives of several British soldiers, resulting in the British honouring her with the title Khan Bahadur, Princess of the Brave. She was also responsible for the building of a new prison, setting up a court of justice, of ...

Turkey: Kurdish Smugglers | European Journal
Iranian border patrolmen are mercilessly hunting down young Kurds who try to smuggle cheap diesel oil across the border to Turkey. Ankara has said nothing, supposedly not wanting to strain relations with Tehran. The Iranian border patrol's most recent known victim was handed over to Turkish authorities in January. But Ankara has had little response to the captures and killings so far, turning a largely deaf ear to protests from relatives and human rights activists. Turkey imports more than one third of its oil and natural gas from Iran, so it likes to keep relations cosy. The EU is prodding Turkey to change its policies toward Iran and improve the economic circumstances of the region's Kurds. For more go to www.dw.de

The Kurds
The cry of a people for freedom! The representative of the Kurdish people on 15 February 1999, deported to a violation of international law cloak and dagger operation of international intelligence agencies in Turkey, at a date that coincides with the beginning of the uprising led by Sheikh Said. Since Ocalan developed this movement and is one of the important values of the people and the movement that tried to countries like Syria, Iran, Iraq, Turkey, and international forces or conspiracy to eliminate him politically and physically. On the other hand, some hoped with his execution of a Turkish-Kurdish war. However, Abdullah Ocalan had all these plans with his attitude and line running into the void. These calculations were also not, because all Kurds with mass protest actions: occupations, hunger strikes and self-immolation under the motto "No one can darken our sun!" responded. Since 1999, Mr. Abdullah Ocalan on the prison island of Imrali is detained under severe conditions of isolation. On November 17 his prison conditions were still deteriorating. The current area is 6 square meters of Ocalan.
Who are the Kurds
who are the Kurds There is a saying among the Kurds: "No friends but the mountains." For, indeed, the world has scarcely noticed when century after century, conqueror after conqueror has driven these once nomadic tribes deep within their beloved mountains to preserve their culture, their language and their lives. Hidden in the shadows of history, resistance against repression became the Kurdish way of life, until atrocities inflicted by a dictator named Saddam Hussein sent shock waves throughout the world causing people of ever nation to ask, "Who are the Kurds?" For many, awareness arrived on 'Bloody Friday' in March of nineteen eighty-eight when Saddam dropped poisonous gas on the Kurdish city of Halabja killing five thousand within minutes, followed by seven thousand more as the bombing continued for days. Halabja was not Saddam's only chemical attack against Iraq's Kurds, it was simply the worst, captured in all its horrific detail, making it a symbol of the atrocities committed by Saddam Hussein. INTERVIEW: RIZGAR HAMAWANDI Saddam tried to wipe Kurdish people from the face of the earth. The people in Kurdistan are so happy because of the liberation and because now they can live in peace and free. It is strikingly similar to the plight of the Gaelic Scots, which persisted right into the middle of the 20th century....

Assyrian DNA - Exposing Kurdish Myths
Anti-Assyrian liars mostly Kurdish and Arab Muslims have done fake video propaganda full of lies that Assyrians are not Semitic and that we are supposedly Nostrian. This lie has been made by Arabs & Kurds to try and ignore the fact they do not originate in Iraq and that they descend from invaders from Persia and Saudi Arabia who came to our lands to steal it, outnumber & persecute our Indigenous people. They are also jealous that Assyrians have such a rich, famous history full of civilizations, while Kurds & Arabs descend from some barbaric nomads who stole our land. Modern DNA have proven them wrong and has proven that indeed most Assyrians have DNA linked to modern Mesopotamia, as this Doctor told Nineveh Dinha from the DNA test she did, he proved most of her ancestry is Native from Mesopotamia, since most Assyrians originate in Assyria (Iraq). We are the Native Indigenous Ethno-Religious group of Iraq, not the invading Arabs from Saudi Arabia and not the invading Kurds from South Turkey & West Iran. Militants of the Kurdistan Worker's Party, which is considered radical by Turkey as well as the US and European Union, fired live rounds on a number of military outposts in two districts of the Hakkari province which borders Iraq.
