Boker Knives Factory Tour - Solingen, Germany
In 2007 Ernst Felix picked me up at my hotel in Solingen and we sped off to the Boker factory. He was leaving that afternoon for vacation and the tour was fast and furious with no set up time. I had to shoot on the go and try to keep up with him. As much of a challenge the shooting wasI think this made the footage more dynamic than it would have been with a lot of set up time. Either way enjoy a short tour of the Boker knife factory in Solingen, Germany.

Buck Vantage knives: Design Excellence!
The Buck Vantage folding knives rock. They are high value, handsome, low profile, hard cutting designs that make stellar EDC choices. The Vantage also offers the buyer several options in steel and handle material: Vantage Select Large and Small with 420HC and sculpted Zytel scales; the Vantage Pro with S30V and sculpted G10 scales (good looking!); the Vantage Avid with 13C26 Sandvik® and again G10 scales. Large size Vantages have 3 1/4" (8.3 cm) blades; the Small Vantage 2 5/8" (6.7 cm) length. The looks on these knives are striking and yet provide solid ergonomics. The sculpted Zytel handles don't provide a lot of traction but are good looking, light, and thin. The CNC contoured G10 scales on the Pro model add even better looks (the Avid features CNC contoured Charcoal Dymondwood® scales). The blade shape is superb and reminiscent of the uber-expensive Sebenza to me. It possesses a near-perfect form for all kinds of everyday cutting tasks with nice curvature (belly), sweep, swedge, polished flats, and a strong tip. It is hollow ground. Blade finishes are good with the S30V version showing a smoother satin finish with less pronounced striations. Any of the three steels offered should be excellent in role as well and I have been happy with the performance of my other Buck 420HC knives. NUTNFANCY SHOT 2012: Buck Knives, Karen Hood!
Meet fun and vibrant Karen Hood! She is now running the Hoods Woods Project, taking over for friend Ron Hood after he died last year. We check in with her and see the new and very cool PUNK medium sized fixed blade that Karen finished developing for Ron. It is light, well balanced, has a great sheath, and features the excellent Buck version of 5160 (well proven here, it is excellent). Karen is upbeat and handling Ron's loss well but it's been a difficult path as you can imagine. We change gears and then check in with some of the other new Buck 2012 line. That cutlery set rules and the new colors of the Buck Vantage line are very cool. Buck continues as a great American knife maker, true to its heritage and quality.

"Insanely Sharp Knives" by Nutnfancy (Edge Pro Apex)
Chances are the knife in your pocket is dull. Really dull. I know because I've seen it! But like automobile maintenance, keeping your blades in top operation form should be a priority. Otherwise it will let you down when you might really need it. I start off the vid by showing you my own medium capability hand sharpening skill on a SOG Gov-Tac. It's ranks about a 6 out of 10 for impressiveness. But not the Edge Pro Apex sharpener. This is a solid 10, the best sharpener I've ever found. The EPA is a compact and easy to taking along manual sharpening system that REALLY works. Much hype has accompanied other sharpeners and I've been disappointed in each one on most levels. They don't' come close to the capabilities of this one. Here I take you for the sharpening ride with the awesome Microtech SOCOM, somewhat dulled after TNP cutting tests. With its S35V steel, it's a perfect test bed for this exercise. Covered in this reference Nutnfancy vid: philosophy on sharpening (and the sometimes elitist controversy that surrounds it), setup, sharpening angles, technique and practice, stone selections, gotcha's, and the many upsides to the Edge Pro Apex. Once practiced you will find you can get "in and out" of the EPA quickly and will simply be astounded with the results (shown in detail here).
