Famous for the song Aon Focal Eile, he now has a number of hits to his name. Richie was born and raised in Raheenwood, Fenagh, Bagenalstown, County Carlow in Ireland and he still lives there. "On Raglan Road" by Patrick Kavanagh (poetry reading)
This poem was first published in 1946 with the title "Dark Haired Miriam Ran Away" It refers to a girlfriend but she wasn't called Miriam. The poem's now much better known as a song called "On Raglan Road" Many years later, Luke Kelly of The Dubliners, who was 5 years old when the poem was written, first sang it to an old Irish tune, "The Dawning of the Day" I deliberately didn't listen to him before recording it - and his phrasing is quite different from mine: www.youtube.com Patrick Kavanaugh's statue is sitting on a bench by The Grand Canal.
