From an original CD: JUPITER NASA-VOYAGER SPACE SOUNDS (1990) BRAIN/MIND Research Fascinating recording of Jupiter sounds (electromagnetic "voices") by NASA-Voyager. The complex interactions of charged electromagnetic particles from the solar wind , planetary magnetosphere etc. create vibration "soundscapes". It sounds very interesting, even scary. Jupiter is mostly composed of hydrogen and helium. The entire planet is made of gas, with no solid surface under the atmosphere. The pressures and temperatures deep in Jupiter are so high that gases form a gradual transition into liquids which are gradually compressed into a metallic "plasma" in which the molecules have been stripped of their outer electrons. The winds of Jupiter are a thousand metres per second relative to the rotating interior. Jupiter's magnetic field is four thousand times stronger than Earth's, and is tipped by 11° degrees of axis spin. This causes the magnetic field to wobble, which has a profound effect on trapped electronically charged particles. This plasma of charged particles is accelerated beyond the magnetosphere of Jupiter to speeds of tens of thousands of kilometres per second. In case anyone missed it, I had clear skies tonight and wanted to take a moment to record this for all of you. Recorded with Canon Vixia HF20 on Feb. 26, 2012 in Michigan, USA. Peace JC. Tonight, (Feb. 26, 2012), Jupiter, Venus, and the moon are putting on a spectacular show in what's called a "Triple Conjunction." Venus and Jupiter are currently in the process of moving closer to each other in the night sky view, and by the middle of March you should be able to cover the view of the two planets just by holding out the palm of your hand. This phenomenon, where two planets cross each others paths three times over a short period, is a somewhat rare occurrence. The crescent moon only makes the view even more breathtaking. Skies will be clearing throughout the evening, and you can see the view by looking to the western sky. The moon is closest to the planet Jupiter tonight. Filmed with a Canon 5D Mk2 and 17mm-40mm wide angle f/4.0L lens from Santa Clarita, CA. Images were taken every 8 seconds using a 7-second exposure at f4 and ISO4000 to capture all the stars visible in this somewhat light-polluted area. March 12, 2012 Venus, the brilliant "evening star," is one of the solar system's four inner planets. Jupiter, which lines up just to the left of Venus this evening, is the largest of the four giant outer planets. March 13, 2012 Draco, the dragon, is home to the Cat's Eye Nebula, which is a bubble of gas set aglow by a dying star. It's low in the north in early evening and quite high in the sky at dawn. Through a telescope it looks like a bit of fuzz among the myriad stars. Venus and Jupiter have been dancing toward each other in the night sky for months, and they'll finally come together this week in a dazzling show for skywatchers. Venus and Jupiter's Close Encounter Peaks This Week
If somebody tells you they saw a pair of UFOs this week, ask them to be sure they weren't just gazing at Venus and Jupiter. The two planets have been moving toward one another in the night sky for months now, and star gazers get a special treat this week as they line up for a planetary conjunction. Venus and Jupiter get cozy about every 13 months, but this particular tango of the sky's two brightest planets is special because they'll be extra visible during the long evening in the Northern Hemisphere—and that won't happen for another several years. By the time it peaks this Thursday night, the planetary conjunction will be visible above the western horizon for four hours. Venus, much closer than Jupiter, will be the brighter of the two planets, even though it's much smaller in size. So take off the tinfoil hat and dust off the telescope; this close encounter of the celestial kind is worth watching.

Juno Mission Launches to Jupiter
NASA's Juno spacecraft is on its way to Jupiter after being launched aboard an Atlas V rocket from the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida on August 5 at 11:25 am Eastern. The solar-powered spacecraft will arrive at Jupiter in July 2016 and orbit its poles 33 times to find out more about the gas giant's interior, atmosphere and aurora. Scientists believe Jupiter holds the key to better understanding the origins of our solar system.

The atmosphere contains trace amounts of methane, water vapor, ammonia, and silicon-based compounds. There are also traces of carbon, ethane, hydrogen sulfide, neon, oxygen, phosphine, and sulfur. The outermost layer of the atmosphere contains crystals of frozen ammonia. Jupiter is thought to consist of a dense core with a mixture of elements, a surrounding layer of liquid metallic hydrogen with some helium, and an outer layer predominantly of molecular hydrogen. Jupiter has the largest planetary atmosphere in the Solar System, spanning over 5.000 km in altitude. Today, we know relatively more about Jupiter and its moons but still our knowledge is very limited. On May 2nd, 2012, the European Space Agency announced its plans for a 2022 mission to explore Jupiter and its icy moons. Dubbed, JUICE , it will reach its destination by 2030 - about 8 years from its takeoff in 2022. The mission will cost around 1 billion euros and will be the first european-led mission of its kind to venture to the outer solar system. Using cameras, spectrometers and an ice-penetrating radar, the mission's purpose is to explore Jupiter's moons and study the surface and oceans for possible habitable conditions. There's particular interest in Ganymede, Jupiter's largest moon. It is believed to have an ocean underneath its icy surface and its own magnetic field. Until Galileo concluded in 1610 that objects orbiting Jupiter were its moons, they were considered to be stars. And that discovery was the first example of objects not revolving around Earth - in support of the revolutionary theory at that time by Copernicus that the Earth was not the center of Universe.
