An overview of the Juno mission to Jupiter due for launch August 2011. Source- juno.wisc.edu 'When the solar-powered spacecraft reaches its final destination in 2016, Juno will enter into a low, elliptical orbit circling the planet from pole to pole. The Juno team has carefully plotted the orbit of the innovative spacecraft to avoid lethal belts of charged particles that surround Jupiter much like the less dense Van Allen belts that encircle the Earth. Once Juno enters into its orbit, infrared and microwave instruments will begin to measure the thermal radiation emanating from deep within Jupiter's dense atmosphere. These observations will complement previous studies of the planet's composition by assessing the abundance and distribution of water, and therefore oxygen. While filling missing pieces of the puzzle of Jupiter's composition, this data also provides insight into the planet's origins. Meanwhile, other instruments aboard Juno will gather data about the planet's gravitational field and polar magnetosphere. Scientists can use this information to expand our understanding of the processes that cause Jupiter's spectacular auroras and the baffling internal structure of a world made mainly of hydrogen and helium.'

Central to the project is Ben Watkins, and his collaborations with a constantly changing ensemble of musicians from across the world, including percussionist Mabi Thobejane from South Africa along with countrymen Amampondo, Eduardo Niebla, Steve Stevens, Greg Ellis, Taz Alexander, Ghetto Priest and recently Yasmin Levy. Originally Juno Reactor was formed as an art project in 1990; Ben Watkins wanted to collaborate with other artists to produce and be involved in exciting projects that were not commercially driven. Juno Mission Launches to Jupiter
NASA's Juno spacecraft is on its way to Jupiter after being launched aboard an Atlas V rocket from the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida on August 5 at 11:25 am Eastern. The solar-powered spacecraft will arrive at Jupiter in July 2016 and orbit its poles 33 times to find out more about the gas giant's interior, atmosphere and aurora. Scientists believe Jupiter holds the key to better understanding the origins of our solar system.

The spacecraft travels around the Sun, to a point beyond the orbit of Mars where it fires its main engine a couple of times. These deep space maneuvers set up the Earth flyby maneuver that occurs approximately two years after launch. The Earth flyby gives Juno the boost in velocity it needs to coast all the way to Jupiter. An Atlas V rocket lofted the Juno spacecraft toward Jupiter from Space Launch Complex-41. The 4-ton Juno spacecraft will take five years to reach Jupiter on a mission to study its structure and decipher its history. Jason Reitman (el hijo de Ivan) quedó finalista en el Premio del Público a la Mejor Película en el Festival de Toronto con "Juno" (sin olvidar ese galardón al Mejor Largometraje del Jurado Joven en Gijón), comedia independiente y drama adolescente para un film protagonizado por Ellen Page ("Hard Candy", "The Tracey Fragments"), Michael Cera, Jennifer Garner, Jason Bateman, JK Simmons y Olivia Thirlby. Aunque mención aparte merece Diablo Cody, guionista de este film y ya toda una estrella mediática en Estados Unidos (incluso Spielberg se ha fijado en ella para un nuevo proyecto televisivo). Comparado por su original retrato adolescente con joyitas como "Election" de Alexander Payne, el film nos presenta a Juno (Page), una joven que se ha quedado embarazada de un compañero de instituto (Cera). En lugar de abortar, decide dar a su futuro hijo en adopción a una pareja (Bateman y Garner) que no pueden tener hijos.
