The Troggs - Wild Thing
I wonder where Austin Powers got his inspiration from? The Troggs formed in 1964 and were signed by the manager of The Kinks, Larry Page in 1965. Their most famous hit was the single "Wild Thing" (written by Chip Taylor), which with the help of television exposure on Thank Your Lucky Stars reached number 2 in the UK and number 1 in the United States in June 1966. Its combination of a simple heavy guitar riff and flirtatious lyrics helped it to quickly become a garage rock standard. It was recorded in one complete take (take two) at Olympic Studios in London, with Keith Grant engineering. The band's success in the US was also limited by not touring there until 1968.

Since 2003 the Thanks Jimi Festival has been an annual event paying tribute to Jimi Hendrix taking place in the historic center of Wroclaw Guitar City, Poland. In 2006 this gathering established a new world record for the "largest guitar orchestra" with 1581 guitarists playing "Hey Joe" together. This year the Thanks Jimi Festival is transforming into the center of an annual 1st of May "World Guitar Day" and is expanding significantly with satellite events happening simultaneously around the world as well as private individuals and smaller groups being able to also take part in real time via the web. 2007 only looks to be bigger than last year's record breaker. As far away from the dazzling style of Hendrix 1966-70, this "I'm a Man" shows a fully mature and very personal guitar technique, besides being one of the few songs sung by Jimi with Curtis Knight and the Squires.
