Hague K8 HDV Boom Jib
The Hague HDV Boom K8 has been developed to support the new range of HD camcorders such as the Sony Z1, V1, A1 etc. plus all other "handheld" camcorders under 4kg. The boom is fastened directly to the video head of any sturdy tripod, in the same way you would attach your camcorder, it can be mounted using both 1/4" and 3/8" screws. On the end of the boom is a camera plate (quick release adaptor shown in video is an optional extra) mounted on a pulley with a control cable coming down the boom to a second pulley at the side of the video head on the tripod. It is this control cable that keeps the camcorder level as the boom is raised or lowered. Tilting the tripod's video head controls the camera pulley on the end of the boom, enabling the camcorder to be tilted up or down. The radial ball bearings in the pulley ensure a very smooth tilt movement. The boom breaks down into 3 pieces making it quick and simple to set up, standard bar weights (not supplied) are used for counterbalance and there is an adjustable fine trim weight to achieve optimum balance. The boom can be used at 2 different lengths, at its longest length the camera will go from ground level to over 3.5metres high and at its shorter length to 2.5metres high. How To Jib
For this week's video, we made our first How-To Tuesday. In this video, you will learn how to jib without any snow on the ground. The tips and tricks given in this video are some that are known by only the worlds elite no-snow-jibbers. Watch and Learn. Made in China (No, not really) with Windows Movie Maker and Adobe After Effects CS3. Filmed with a Sony Handycam dcr-sr45 with a Sunpak 0.3x Wide Angle Lens. I know this is late but heres the story: Tuesday: The video had been done so I tried to upload it. There was no upload button. I tried to refresh like ten times but still nothing. I went into the basic uploader and i got it to work so i typed in all of my info only to have the upload fail once it reached 100%. Tried on firefox and got the same results. Wednesday: Pretty much tried all the same things as tuesday over and over. I also looked for extrernal YouTube uploaders but had no luck. Thursday: Came home to find that my mom had uninstalled Internet Explorer 9 so we were back to 8. This was good because it was one of the things that I wanted to try. The upload button was there so I clicked it but nothing happened. I was curious so I tried uploading a video of a different format which worked. So I took the AVI video, brought it into Windows Movie Maker and rendered it there which gave me what you are watching right now. If at first you don't suceed, TRY,TRY again.

Kessler Crane Pocket jib Review
We have loved this jib. Not only do I use it as small jib (mostly operating from the head) but I also use it as a pour mans Peewee Dolly. When I take it on set the camera sits on it all day and I just wheel it around to where I need the camera. It makes moving so much faster. But most of what I want to say is said in the video. I forgot to mention that we are running the Hurcules head on the K-Pod. you don't need it for this Jib but I did want to get it for future use of other jibs or bigger camera setups. How to build a Snowboard Fun/Jib Box (very easy)
Built two fun boxes. This is very easy if you just build two ladder boxes to the height you want and then throw on your ply, liquid nails and top. This will give you an idea what to use and makes the process simplified. Add a couple horizontal studs for stability and you are set. This length is perfect for throwing multiple tricks at one time. Total of 16ft and used HDPE 1/2in. The plastic was expensive but worth it. Made an slanted box to a flat transition. Easy to build and a ton of fun to use. Hope the video helps answer some of the questions I have seen. The approach is made of plastic lattice (works really well) Just toss some snow on it. It will work without snow, just not as well. I used 2" Square Aluminum Tubing with 1/8th inch walls that was 21 feet when ordered. I cut up the sections before leaving the weld shop so that it would all fit in my vehicle. While I was measuring, marking, and pre punching all the holes my grandfather was drilling them out on the press. I'm thankful for his help on this project because we were able to assemble it in one night. It would have taken me at least 3 nights doing it by myself! All the aluminum costs were $95.00. Nut's, Bolts, Washers, were $26.00. Lazy Susan $5.00 I cannot place values on the Plywood and Saw Table used on the crane because they were things we already had... I may find a larger based lazy Susan later. I have also ordered a tripod head to mount on the crane head to gain more angles. I am using a standard 1/4" mount for the camera but having the tripod head on the end will allow me to angle the camera at any direction. There is much that could be added to this crane, such as LCD monitor, swivel mount for camera with control cables for the operator, etc. But I'm going to keep it simple for a while since this is an almost zero budget hobby that quickly racks up ...

READ ME!! (EDIT) - Felt I needed to add this because of an unforeseen flaw: _________________________________ The twisting of the arm because of the weight of the camera being to one side makes it more difficult to use. At ground level, it tilts clockwise a bit, when it is mid-level (parallel with the pivot point, it is perfectly level, and when it is up high, it tilts slightly counter-clockwise. I can fix this in post, and have used this on two shoots already. but it is a pain. _________________ Lightweight, VERY portable, and achieves tilt. Ok - the title is a bit misleading. I already had almost everything I needed to make this new jib. So yes, it only cost me $6 to make. If you bought the parts now it would cost approximately $25-35 depending upon how much the tripod costs. I used parts from an old Targus tripod (mainly the legs) to create the arm for the jib, and then used L-brackets and a bunch of nuts and bolts. I specify at the end of the video what parts I used and how many. I also go into DETAILED information about how I made it. Sorry for the wind noise in the shots outside. It was REALLY windy and my shotgun mic's windscreen was not holding up. IMPORTANT - if you try this yourself, you need to start with a VERY STURDY TRIPOD as the source for your parts. You also need to make sure you balance everything very well!! This was NOT an attempt to duplicate the CobraCrane or other design. (Though I did use that as a general direction) It was a challenge I assigned ...
