Both Frank and Andreas approaches to harmony and rhythm at the start of this tune typify the Gypsy jazz style plenty of diminished and chromatic phrases bolstered by tight, driving rhythms comprised of sparse yet complex chord voicings. Later in the performance, we hear Andreas introduce more blues-based note choices with Frank following suit with his chord voicings and rhythms. Frank then explores a few blues phrases before the boys break into a classically-themed section, illustrating just how far the Gypsy jazz style can be taken. The piece wraps things up while exploring a more traditional approach.

50 Jazz Guitar Licks You MUST Know - Lick #44: ii-V7 Bop Riffs - Frank Vignola

FULL COURSE, TAB, JAM TRACKS: truefire.at More jazz guitar lessons: bit.ly In this ii-V7 lick we start with a nice melodic statement using an interval jump. Then we follow it up with a scalar pattern that leads into an arpeggio. So, we are utilizing the different techniques we have been learning in other licks. This is a good lick to learn in different keys and positions. It may take a little practice with the slow rhythm track to get this lick under your fingers. The fast tempo is a realistically bright tempo that jazzers play so take the time practice slowly building the speed of your eighth note lines.

Jazz Guitar lesson#10 single note improvisation

this is a continuation of lesson #5 continued.i was asked to teach a single note intro over some chords. i also explain how i improvise.i did this video because people are always asking me what scales and modes i use.when i tell them i don't use modes or scales, they ask me how i play without them.hopefully this will explain my primitive way of playing.since i'm self taught this was not very well done as we had high winds and the electricity kept going out.so i was rushing this. i know.excuses excuses! about 50 years ago i was playing in a jazz combo and decided to learn scales to enhance my playing. after about a week i started sounding very mechanical without realizing it.i thought i was sounding cool.my fellow musicians asked me what i was doing different.i said i was learning scales.nice huh? they said i sounded way better just playing what was in my head. i dumped the scales and never looked back.anyone can run chords, modes and arpeggios over chord changes.to me it's way more challenging and interesting to jazz around the melody and make up licks to by listening to the notes that fit the chord.it served me well for 23 years in the nite clubs.

Originally a 1945 French song "Les feuilles mortes" (literally "Dead Leaves") with music by Joseph Kosma and lyrics by poet Jacques Prévert, English lyrics were written in 1947 by the American songwriter Johnny Mercer. It has become a pop standard and a jazz standard in both languages, and as an instrumental. "Les feuilles mortes" was introduced by Yves Montand in 1946 for the film Les Portes de la Nuit.[1] The film Autumn Leaves (1956) starring Joan Crawford featured the song, which was sung by Nat King Cole over the title sequence. The French songwriter Serge Gainsbourg wrote "La chanson de Prévert" as a tribute to this song. The tribute added much color into the song.

Try this one in other positions to enhance your knowledge of this lick and your knowledge of the fingerboard. And always be able to sing the lick to help you internalize it.

Ted Greene playing Autumn Leaves and more pt 1

Part 1 The late, great, underground guitar hero Ted Greene performing "Autumn Leaves" and explaining keys, harmony, and counterpoint at a 1993 seminar hosted by Musician's Institute in California. Ted Greene was a master guitarist with a unquenchable thirst for knowledge that resulted in an unbelievable understanding of music and the mechanics of the guitar. While he did put out a single solo guitar album in his lifetime (available from www.artofliferecords.com), the majority of his legacy lies in his teaching material. Ted's published works include the following books: Chord Chemistry, Modern Chord Progressions, and Jazz Guitar Single Note Soloing Vols. 1 & 2. These publications are among history's most in-depth studies of music as related to the guitar, and have inspired and challenged musicians for decades, and by many are considered to be essential studies for anyone serious about the guitar. Ted was known by his students and followers a very humble and spiritual man, who always prefered backing a singer or an occasional private gig to any concert hall type performance. However, his true passion was as a teacher, and students came from all over in order to learn from him. Upon entering his apartment, a student may have expected to find thousands of books stacked all across the floor and Ted's many guitars spread out throughout the apartment. Ted was kind hearted, deeply spirtual, unbelievably knowledgable (yet always seeking to learn more), and incredibly skilled as a ...

Dave Lincoln -"Anouman" (Django Reinhardt)

I'm a jazz guitarist from Ft Worth, TX. (and huge Django Reinhardt fan). I was honored to be chosen to play two solo jazz guitar concerts for the Grand Opening Week of the Dallas Center For the Performing Arts (Winspear Opera House). This is a gorgeous song. It was written by Django in 1953, very late in his life. It is a great vehicle for my jazz guitar students that are interested in Django's music. It is posted for their benefit. I'm playing my much beloved Dupont MD-50E (a very fine recreation of a circa 1936 Selmer Modele Jazz guitar as played by Django). *A very special thanks to virtuoso gypsy jazz guitarist, Stephane Wrembel for his wonderful rhythm section track. Best wishes from Texas.
