Filmed live on Halloween night 2009 at Voodoo Experience in New Orleans, Live Voodoo sees the reunion of the classic Jane's Addiction line-up of Perry Farrell (vocals), Stephen Perkins (drums), Eric Avery (bass) and Dave Navarro (guitar). Deadicated 1991 This video is a historic look back to 1991, when a varied and famous group of performers lent their songs to the "Deadicated" cd, a compilation meant to help save the world's rainforests. "Deadicated" contains all Grateful Dead originals, covered by leading artists of the time. The individuals and bands involved were stars from across the musical spectrum, including Los Lobos, Bruce Hornsby & The Range, Elvis Costello, Suzanne Vega, Dwight Yokam, Warron Zevon with David Lindley, Indigo Girls, Lyle Lovett, Cowboy Junkies, Midnight Oil, Burning Spear, Dr. John, and the band featured in this video, Jane's Addiction. Their excellent version of "Ripple" is the standout track, (Jerry Garcia was especially taken with their trippy rendition), and ties in well with the excellent cover artwork. The incredible rainforest scene was a collaboration between artists MIKIO Kennedy and William Giese. The illustrations for this video are sourced from a 24x36 promotional instore poster, allowing you to see the intricate details and "hidden" pictures within. The artists involved, their record companies, the writers, Ice Nine Publishing, The Grateful Dead, Arista Records and BMG Distribution all donated signifigant proceeds to The Rainforest Action Network and Cultural Survival. Though the song was written prior to Xiola Blue's death of a heroin overdose in 1987, the song was released in 1990, and the poem at the beginning makes light of this, in memory. Jane's Addiction - Whores
Jane's Addiction, also known as Triple-X or XXX by fans, is the debut album by the band Jane's Addiction. It was recorded live at the Roxy Theatre in Los Angeles on January 26, 1987. Overdubs were later recorded at The Edge studio in Los Angeles and added to the album mix. The audience track is from a Los Lobos concert. The tracks "Jane Says" and "Pigs in Zen" were both later released on the band's first studio album, Nothing's Shocking, as studio versions. The album included two covers: "Rock & Roll" by The Velvet Underground, and "Sympathy for the Devil" by The Rolling Stones, although the latter was titled "Sympathy" on the album. The songs "Whores" and "Chip Away" were recently re-recorded by the reunited Jane's Addiction and Nine Inch Nails front man, Trent Reznor.
