JACKAL -Amazing Predator
The Jackal, once viewed as Anubis the Egyptian god of embalming & the underworld (who had a Jackals head on a mans body), and now as seen as a scavenger or a nuisance animal and is killed. In South Africa they are hunted for their fur and because they are seen as pests. But to me, the Jackal is another amazing predator that needs our protection. The Jackal is a member of any of three (sometimes thought to be four) species of the family Canidae, found in Africa, Asia and southeastern Europe. The Four species are: Black-backed jackal (Canis mesomelas) *featured in this video. Side-striped jackal (Canis adustus) Golden jackal (Canis aureus) & Ethiopian wolf (Canis simensis) These mate for life pairs, can also live in packs and have various social calls they make out to one another. Jackals are opportunistic omnivores and will eat young antelopes, reptiles, rodents, insects, birds, fruits, and even grass. But their popular image as scavengers has resulted in a negative public image, (also a false image people have of the hyena) and I hope this video will help put an end to that. *All animal footage filmed in Kenya. A playthrough of Konami's arcade classic Jackal on MAME, the full game completed scoring 667300 points. Settings:- difficulty normal, lives 3, bonus @ 30K & 150K. (Nb. this is the "World" version; the game was called "Top Gunner" in the US and "Tokushu Butai Jackal" in Japan.) The scenario: drive your jeep deep into enemy lines and penetrate the defences of the fortress to destroy the mighty gun emplacements at its heart. Along the way rescue your captured comrades and drop them off at the helipads. As well as a heavy machine gun that always fires up the screen, your jeep has a forward-firing main weapon that can be powered-up from a grenade tosser right up to a devastating cross-spread rocket launcher. Jackal was my favourite of all shoot-em-ups in the arcade, so it was great to be able to catch up with it again on MAME. I found it is a lot harder to play on the PC though and began to despair of ever finishing it. Perhaps it's down to the death of brain cells over the intervening two decades, but keyboard control certainly doesn't help. It was a challenge just to point my jeep in the right direction as you will see. What's special about Jackal? The music for a start (it came out badly in this capture for some reason); it's catchy, dramatic and with a sense of urgency, sort of like a marching song for jeeps.
