Still struggling with his shooting following a knee injury, Iverson scored 26 points -- his most in more than a month -- in Philadelphia's 87-82 victory over Orlando on Monday night. Iverson has only been back a week after sitting out 10 games because of a bruised right knee. But he has a while to go to regain his All-Star form. "My rhythm is way off. I'm struggling," said Iverson, shooting 37 percent in five games since returning. "It's frustrating that it's taking so long for my game to come back. But by being in the league eight years, I've been through struggles and I know how to play while struggling." Iverson scored a season-high 51 points but the Lakers had three players, led by Kobe Bryant's 25, score 20-plus points to give the Lakers a 111-107 win over the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday night. Vladimir Radmanovic scored 21 points and Derek Fisher added 20 for the Lakers. Carmelo Anthony had 26 points and eight rebounds and Marcus Camby had 20 rebounds for the Nuggets. "We absorbed a lot of points from Iverson," Lakers coach Phil Jackson said. "He got our whole team in foul trouble." Iverson scored 49 points through the first three quarters but was held to a just a layup in the fourth. The Lakers clamped down on the 6-foot guard, forcing the ball out of his hands. The strategy worked. Iverson took only four shots in the last 12 minutes. Former NBA stars Allen Iverson and Dennis Rodman were in Cixi, Zhejiang earlier this week to scrimmage against the Beijing Ducks, which still has (the newly minted) Stephon Marbury, as part of an eight-game, multi-team tour. One Beijing player said it was a dream to play against AI. Ducks coach Min Lulei, however, had no use for such sentiment. Denver led by as many as 17 in the first half but surrendered the lead in the third quarter. Iverson said a 35-foot 3-pointer at the third-quarter buzzer, that tied it at 78, was the turning point. "I hadn't hit anything all game, and then I make the bomb at the end of the third. I've been around long enough to know to keep on playing and fighting and that's what I did." The first game of the 2001 NBA Finals was one of the best basketball games I have seen in a very long time. There is just nothing like great talent fused with great passion in a big game. It was not just that everyone, myself included, expected Goliath to coast to the title, and it was not just that David beat Goliath in Game 1, but it was the nature of the game, the pure ferocity with which David played, and in time the matching ferocity with which Goliath had to counter. Even if the Lakers had won, which in the end they did not, it would have been a magnificent game, because the Sixers had pushed them so hard, pushed them to match Allen Iverson's level of passion. For it was obvious that Iverson controlled the pace of the game, not just by his own play but by his infectious effect on his teammates, and thus in turn his effect on the Lakers. If that Game 1 assault upon the Laker journey to an unbeaten playoff record wasn't bad enough, the Sixers, in Games 2 and 3, again challenged the Lakers.
