'Romantic Ireland: From The Streets' is an exhibition of art work hung at Anglo Irish HQ, North Wall Quay, Dublin. Anglo Irish Bank was a central player in the madness that went on in this country. This site is an exceptionally appropriate and evocative symbol of the audacity shown in the previous 20 years and the results of that audacity. We own this building through NAMA therefore no permission need be sought to use it. Nobody sought permission to spend our taxes on private debt. 'September 1913' is a century old acceptable and relevant comment on the effect of greed on the ideals of a nation. On St. Patrick's Day the world is watching us celebrate artistically. It seems appropriate to display an artistic response on this day that shows we're also capable of a bit of reflection. This exhibition is an artistic response. It is part of a wider ongoing discussion around ideas of sovereignty and nationhood. Was it always like this? Are ordinary people consistently sold a lie for the benefit of a relatively small group of people? It has the potential to establish a starting point for a different discussion on Ireland. Is there a place for idealism? Is it a romantic notion? Is idealism interchangeable with naivety? What does it mean to be Irish? What is the relationship between the economy and being Irish? Frank McDonald gives a tour of Ireland's most expensive house, Walford, on Shrewsbury Road, Dublin. It sold for €58 million six years ago and is now on the market with a guide price of €15 million. Joint agents Lisney and Savills have been appointed to handle the sale. Anyone bidding for the house will be aware that earlier this year Derek Quinlan managed to get only about €7 million for his superbly presented home on the same road.

Two thirds of the population of Ireland are boycotting household taxes.

Ten thousand people took part in todays anti austerity march in dublin, Ireland. They represent over 3 million people that are taking part in a boycott of government imposed taxes on homes. More than 1 million homes have not registered for this tax, and that more 60 percent of the total number of homes, which in reality means more than 3 million people are taking part in the boycott, as the official government figures per household is 3 people per home on average. Todays march to the National convention centre where FineGael were having their 2012 Ard Fheis (annual conference). The marchers are protesting against the Irish governments austerity policies. 10000 people took part. There are more videos to follow. These videos are unedited and what you see is what you get. Even though millions of people around the world protested against such a law and SOPA, PIPA and ACTA were defeated. For some reason you thought it would be a good idea to ignore the cries of the majority of Internet users including the people who elected you, the 80000 Irish people who protested against it and instead you listened to a rich minority of corporate big wigs in the music and film industry. The law is so vague that it's hard to say what qualifies as a transgression. For example if I am at a wedding and I use my phone to film 30 seconds of the bride and groom on the dance floor. I then share it with my friends on Facebook only to receive a strike from my ISP or a fine or Facebook could be even be sued because of the copyrighted material I just uploaded. I'm of course referring to the background music that was playing while they were dancing. This is what this law is capable of doing and the Irish courts will be at the mercy of the corporations and rights holders. I will remind you that the concept of governments being controlled by corporations is one of the definitions of fascism. So obviously Facebook, who have offices here in Ireland ...

Dingle Ireland - Celtic Legend

To read the article visit www.eurodestination.com The Dingle Peninsula in Kerry, Ireland, has to be one of the most spectacularly beautiful places on Earth. I was warned the weather was not going to be great this week, but as it turned out the sea mist that so regularly shrouds the headland at this time of year made the whole place seem even more ethereal than usual. The only downside was not being able to see the mountain tops or even to get the opportunity of viewing the scenery from the top of Mount Brandon. Down below, however, the sea was just something else, and since it was still pretty humid, it was a delight to swim in, even though I was slightly lumbered with my camera equipment and my car etc. I stayed at the Benners Hotel in Dingle, the oldest hotel in the town, which is the most westerly town in mainland Europe. It's right in the centre of town, with great staff, service and most importantly a vibrant bar area. Having travelled for two days beforehand and slept in a tent the night before, I was particularly pleased at the great night's sleep, and even more so at the enormous breakfast I hovered the next morning to prepare myself for a day of filming along the Dingle. It took me most of a day to get from Dingle to Slea Head (00:52), mainly because I was compelled to stop literally every 200 metres to take another clip of the magnificent views. Tourism Ireland, together with the 100-member newchoir, Maureen's Reel Irish Dancers and the Celtic Dance Centre, surprised and delighted an unsuspecting public with a Glee-style performance of Irish favourites "Beautiful Day" by U2, "Brown-eyed Girl" by Van Morrison and "Chasing Cars" by Snow Patrol at Yonge-Dundas Square in Toronto. The performance was coordinated by Tourism Ireland, Scott Pietrangelo, Maureen Mulvey O'Leary and filmed and edited by Casey and Kody McWilliams with additional camerawork by Nathan Legiehn and Brook McWilliams.

The interior of the house is made up of 1.4 billion Euros worth of decommissioned Euro notes from the Irish mint; the walls are made of blocks of old money, and the furniture and appliances are sprayed with shredded notes. Documentary: Oliver Cromwell in Ireland (RTE)

This RTE documentary covers Oliver Cromwell's time in Ireland, the reasons for him being there and the aftermath of his time on the island. Oliver Cromwell and his New Model Army arrived in Ireland after the widespread slaughter of protestants by the island's catholic population in 1641. Protestant men, women and children were attacked, mutilated, hanged, beheaded and burned alive by catholic gangs and armies cheered on by priests. Estimates believe the amount of dead protestants was as high as 200000 - with another 100000 forced to flee to England and Scotland for safety. In the northern Irish province of Ulster over 30% of the entire protestant population were murdered - simply because of their religious beliefs. This was the reason Oliver Cromwell arrived in Ireland - and the violence carried out during his time on the island must be viewed as resulting from the anti-protestant ethnic cleansing which occurred in 1641.

Friday, May 4th saw the release of 'The Rocky Road to Poland' -- The OFFICIAL Republic of Ireland song for Euro 2012. This is the official video which was shot and edited by the great people at Room 4 (www.room4.tv). The track was written by Ray D'Arcy Show listeners and recorded in Windmill Lane Studios by super-group Damien Dempsey, Bressie, Danny O'Reilly (Coronas) and The Dubliners (John Sheehan, Barney McKenna, Eamonn Campbell, Patsy Watchorn).
