War With Iran A Terrible Idea - Here's Why

"Should Israel decide to launch a strike on Iran, its pilots would have to fly more than 1000 miles across unfriendly airspace, refuel in the air en route, fight off Iran's air defenses, attack multiple underground sites simultaneously — and use at least 100 planes. That is the assessment of American defense officials and military analysts close to the Pentagon, who say that an Israeli attack meant to set back Iran's nuclear program would be a huge and highly complex operation...".* The Young Turks host Cenk Uygur breaks it down, including the over-hyped nuclear capability of Iran and why it would be a bad idea for the US to get involved in another war. * www.nytimes.com www.washingtonpost.com Subscribe to The Young Turks: bit.ly Find out how to watch The Young Turks on Current by clicking here: www.current.com The Largest Online New Show in the World. Three disputed Iranian Islands in the Persian Gulf-Iran Today-04-27-2012

On the 10th of April 2012 Iran's president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, visited Hormozgan as part of his 4th trip to all the provinces. The next day, he visited Abu Musa, a small island situated between two others, the Lesser Tunb and Greater Tunb. The United Arab Emirates wasn't happy about this, and recalled its ambassador for consultation. Even a friendly football match that was supposed to be held on the 17th of April between Iran and the UAE was canceled. On the same day the US foreign ministry spokesman Mark Turner said Washington supported the referral of the case to The International Court of Justice. He also called on Iran to agree to direct talks with the UAE on the matter. The Persian Gulf Cooperation Council held a meeting immediately after Ahmadinejad's visit, condemning it as a violation of the UAE's national sovereignty. Regarding the ownership of the Lesser Tunb and Greater Tunb, Iran says there is nothing to talk about, they belong to Iran, but as a good will gesture Tehran says it will sit down to talks to resolve any misunderstandings that might have occurred. Political wrangling between Iran and the UAE over the Lesser Tunb and Greater Tunb and especially Abu Musa, has increased in recent years. Since 1971 when British forces pulled out of this island, the Iranian government announced that Abu Musa is part of Iran, and asserted that claim by sending troops there. Iran says throughout history, these three islands were part of its territory, and remain so today ...

Possible Nuclear Weapons Research at Iran's Parchin Military Complex: Explosives Chamber Image

An unnamed official from a country tracking Iran's nuclear program has provided the Associated Press with a computer generated image said to show an explosives containment chamber located inside Iran's Parchin military complex. According to experts at the International Institute for Strategic Studies, such a chamber is of the type needed for nuclear arms-related tests. IISS Director for Disarmament Mark Fitzpatrick: "What one does inside such a chamber is conducts high explosives testing. You are going to make something go boom with maybe 70 kilograms of high explosives, you need to contain the explosion. And particularly if you are using uranium, which is reportedly the case, you want to contain all the uranium dust so there's not any tell-tale, observable signals of that experimentation." The official who provided the picture has said it is based on information from a person who had seen the chamber at the Parchin military site. The United Nation's nuclear watchdog, the IAEA, has long pressed Iran for access to the site, but so far, this has not been granted. The release of the image comes as IAEA officials prepare to meet their Iranian counterparts for talks in Vienna this week. The discussions will be closely watched by the six world powers -- the US, Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany -- who will be holding their own negotiations with Iran in Baghdad on May 23rd. Iran has neither confirmed nor denied the existence of the chamber depicted in the image, though ...

There's already a verbal standoff over sanctions imposed by the US at the end of last year, aimed at pressing Iran into abandoning its nuclear programme. Tehran threatened to block a key maritime trade route in the Persian Gulf, and later backed off, but is still warning US ships against sailing in the area. 'US blames Iran for rising fuel prices'

US politicians blame Iran and oil companies for the global rise in oil prices, while they are to blame for waging war through sanctions, says a prominent professor. The US Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner says tensions with Iran and high oil prices are among the biggest threats to the American economy. Iran has also stopped selling oil to major Greek companies, citing Greece's failure to pay for the precious commodity. Experts say Western sanctions on Iranian banks have caused Athens to skip payment on Tehran's oil shipment. Greece already faces huge economic troubles, including a major debt crisis, which can threaten the EU's rebound from its financial problems. Press TV has conducted an interview with Paul Sheldon Foote, professor at the California State University in Irvine, to further discuss the issue.
