Japanese Internment: This is the Enemy

Download at: ehistory.osu.edu for a larger version. A video about Japanese internment during World War II. Our democracy was forged in a revolution, fought by revolutionaries who saw injustice & wanted to improve their society. I believe that if our democracy is to remain viable, social criticism must remain an essential part of our nation's education. I strongly criticize the way our nation treated its Japanese-American citizens during the Second World War, & the way I make my point is to use the most palpable evidence of the innocence of those citizens they interned. I show pictures of children in my video as a way to contrast the intent of the policy of internment versus the effect of the internment. Whatever any other governments or people did during that horrible war, what we did to our own citizens was wrong. As a citizen, educator, & most importantly, mother living within the United States, I see it as my duty to critique, criticize, & attempt to improve the direction of American society. This video is one way I attempt to reach that end. In my classroom, my goal is to empower students by giving them the knowledge of how their society works, & through this, how to alter its course. I endeavor to teach students about the interconnectedness of the world, that they have a place in it, & that they have the power to direct it. Without knowledge of their position in our democratic society as citizens, students may never realize their ability to direct society. Without ...

Japanese Internment Camps During WWII

A collection of audio and visual clips during WWII and the Japanese Internment Camps. I made this just for fun for one of my classes. These clips range from random video clips, propaganda, and old documentaries of the time during the Japanese Internment Camps. A good collection could be found at archive.org. Note: These films do not show the entire picture of Japanese Internment Camps, nor does it capture the despair and turmoil of the Japanese people. Since some of these clips were taken from propaganda films, notice the word choice from narrator and even music. Also note that some films were mixed with other narrator voices that better described the situation.

Japanese American Internment

A short music video on the Japanese American Internment in the United States to the music of the Dutch band, "Within Temptation" (Overcome). You can find more of their music at their website www.within-temptation.com available at their online store via cd in the mail, or downloadable tracks. For those who are curious, this particular song was only released on the various Singles for "Stand My Ground". The pictures are not mine, but there are too many to credit here. If you want to put it on your site, or something, email me at IronicallyEnigmatic@gmail.com This video was created by me, Melinda Spencer, in 2006. Also, as this seems to be a popular request, if you would like the movie itself, then the file is too large to e-mail without tearing it into pieces. So if your heart is set on having the video, I'd be happy to burn it to a cd and mail it to you. (As long you don't change anything about the file and/or take credit for it) EDIT: (2/27/09) Nicole7871 is much more eloquent than I on the issue of the Japanese American Internment, so I give her the right to post whatever she wants on the comments (whether or not some consider it spam), so long as it pertains to the issue.

Civilian Internment Camps for Americans

New documents have recently surfaced showing that the US military is setting up protocols for facilities where Civilian Internees would be detained. This echoes the rumors of FEMA camps being set up to detain civilians. I thoroughly researched this issue and would like to share with you what I have found. Indeed, these documents exist and the military has been setting up these provisions for decades. Most of this applies only in a military context and mostly to overseas operations, but also evidently on US soil due to the involvement of agencies like DHS, ICE and FEMA. It looks to me like the US is setting things up to enable them to detain large amount of civilians in: a-disaster scenarios, which would apply to evacuees etc, who would be considered protected persons and released as soon as possible b-in a situation of civil unrest, most likely under martial law, where anyone who resists its imposition could be detained as a Civilian Internee. It is apparent to me that the documents are not describing the rounding up of activists in a non-emergency/martial law situation, for the purpose of suppressing free speech or political dissent. Rather, they describe the capture of anyone 'going againts US interests' in a situation of civil unrest. However, the documents also refer specifically to PSYOP officers quelling political activism inside these facilities and using 'psyop products' to keep inmates in line and crush any rebellion against their captors. links rt.com ...

Japanese Internment during WW II

After America was attacked by Japan at Pearl Harbor, President Franklin Roosevelt issued Executive Order 9066 consigning 120000 people of Japanese ancestry to internment camps. Fred Korematsu challenged the internment all the way to the US Supreme Court. In "Korematsu v. United States" (1944), the Court sided with the government. In 1988, Congress passed and President Ronald Reagan signed legislation which apologized for the internment on behalf of the US government. The legislation said that government actions were based on "race prejudice, war hysteria, and a failure of political leadership". The US government eventually disbursed more than $1.6 billion in reparations to Japanese Americans.

National Guard ad for "internment specialist"

The official National Guard website was advertising for "internment specialists" to assist with operating internment camps for civilian detainees. From the dress (Arabic) of the first civilian detainees depicted in the ad, it appeared that this was for US military operations overseas, though the location was never stated. The training site for the job was listed as Pensacola, Florida. After many people became aware of this ad last week, it was pulled down from the National Guard site sometime between Friday evening Aug 14, 2009 and Saturday morning Aug 15, 2009: The ad with the video was posted here: www.nationalguard.com The advertisement in text form remains on many other sites such as this one: www.ihispano.com Note that one of the benefits for this and other jobs in the National Guard is up to $50000 towards paying off college loans...Go to college, get in debt, pay it off with military service when you can't find any other job.

Internment Camp Frongoch, Ollscoil na Réabhlóide. Part One

Frongoch internment camp at Frongoch in Merionethshire, Wales was a makeshift place of imprisonment during the First World War. Until 1916 it housed German prisoners of war in an abandoned distillery and crude huts, but in the wake of the 1916 Easter Rising in Dublin, Ireland, the German prisoners were moved and it was used as a place of internment for approximately 1800 Irish prisoners, among them such notables as Michael Collins and Arthur Griffith. They were accorded the status of prisoners of war. It is a common misconception that Éamon de Valera was also imprisoned at Frongoch. [1] During this time de Valera was held at Dartmoor, Maidstone and Lewes prisons. The camp became a fertile seeding ground for the spreading of the revolutionary gospel, with inspired organisers such as Michael Collins giving impromptu lessons in guerilla tactics. Later the camp became known as ollscoil na réabhlóide[2], the "University of Revolution" or sometimes "Sinn Féin University". The camp was emptied in December 1916 when David Lloyd George replaced Asquith as Prime Minister

Naive Perspective: A Japanese Internment Story

Local San Diego born and raised, Japanese Internment survivor Ruth Voorhies tells her experience during World War 2 when her family was placed in the Poston Arizona Japanese Internment camp. The experience was a tragic event that never should have happened and was a violation of American rights. It had been argued in the 1970-80s that the Japanese internment camps were concentration camps. However, we show that the camps were in no way similar to concentration camps and that the unfortunate experience was based on what you make of the situation. There are 3 parts....
