Factory Farming: Inefficient and Inhumane? - Jonathan Safran Foer
Complete video at: fora.tv Eating Animals author Jonathan Safran Foer criticizes factory farming as inhumane and inefficient. "Nothing would be better for world hunger than if we stopped eating meat," he says. "We are now feeding...our farmed animals foods that humans eat, corn and soy." ----- Written with the verve readers know from his novels, Everything Is Illuminated and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, Jonathan Safran Foer's first nonfiction book -- Eating Animals -- grew out of his need to justify dietary decisions to his children. A vegetarian and sometime vegan, Foer carefully examines the stories we tell ourselves about what we eat, considering notions of comfort, tradition, and culture. He blends his memories of the roles food played in his childhood with literary representations of meals; reviews various philosophies of food; and conducts his own investigations into factory farms. - Sixth and I Historic Synagogue Jonathan Safran Foer is a novelist and short story writer whose works have appeared in the Paris Review, Conjunctions, The New York Times and The New Yorker. He is best known for his semi-autobiographical novel, Everything Is Illuminated.

How it was made: This cat is the most inefficient drinker video - How To Do Anything TV
There has been much debate going on in various websites about the video This cat is the most inefficient drinker, like in a website called Google, and many people has claimed that the video is fake because it's funny and because it has a cat in it. Major Government Mistakes: Part 1 of 6
Part 1 of 6: Phenomenal presentation by John Stossel of 20/20 explaining how the lack of competition within ever expanding government agencies create a bloated monopoly of inefficient governing bodies that simply dont work. Our governments have exploded from their original roots to protect our rights to controlling every aspect of our lives in a counter productive manner that ultimately steals our living standards through excessive taxation. For those who are concerned with outsourcing; it is argued by many companies that they do so out of necessity due to excessive taxation & regulations that render them inefficient on a globally competitive market.

Dasher Demonstration
Dasher is a one finger user interface that allows text entry without a keyboard. Keyboards are inefficient for two reasons: they do not exploit the redundancy in normal ... all » language; and they waste the fine analogue capabilities of the user's motor system (fingers and eyes, for example). I describe a system intended to rectify both these inefficiencies. Dasher is a text-entry system in which a language model plays an integral role, and it's driven by continuous gestures. Users can achieve single-finger writing speeds of 35 words per minute and hands-free writing speeds of 25 words per minute. Dasher is free software, and it works in all languages, and on many platforms. Dasher is part of Debian, and there's even a little java version for your web-browser. www.dasher.org.uk This is an excerpt from a Google TechTalk: video.google.com

Combat Choke vs. Sport Choke- Damian Ross, The Self Defense Company
There is clearly an efficient way and an inefficient way to strangle. Most people learn the inefficient way with the elbow indexed at the chin. With the elbow at the chin, too many gaps are created and this increases the time for the strangle to work. In the Self Defense Training System (www.theselfdefenseco.com) you learn to put the forearm across the throat, not the elbow, thus creating a more painful experience. It not only works infinitely faster than the sport choke, it triggers the gag reflex and makes the experience a lot more painful (try it yourself). In this video you can clearly see the difference from the reaction the subject being strangled. Plus we do a few more things like shoulder position, head position, breathing, etc that we cover in The Self Defense Training System (www.theselfdefenseco.com). The only time we wind up with the elbow at the chin is when we miss the correct position. Believe me, if the elbow at the chin worked better, we'd be doing it. I know, Hulk Hogan didn't do it that way, but what are you going to do.

Keen Behavioural Finance 2011 Lecture 05 Fractal Finance Markets Part 1
The Fractal Markets Hypothesis and the Inefficient Markets Hypothesis are two of several attempts to provide a realistic theory of how finance markets actually behave. In this first half of the lecture, I explain what a fractal is, and discuss their basic characteristics.
Keen Behavioural Finance 2011 Lecture 05 Fractal Finance Markets Part 2
In this second half of the lecture, I outline the Fractal Markets Hypothesis and the Inefficient Markets Hypothesis (IEH). The IEH suggests precisely the opposite investment strategy to the EMH on how to maximize returns on the stock market: invest in low volatility, high Book to Market stocks.
Game Theory 101: Comparing Outcomes and Pareto Optimality (Efficiency)
How do we compare the social optimality of outcomes? Can we just add up each player's payoffs and see which one is the largest? William Spaniel explains why this is not as easy as it seems and introduces Pareto optimality (efficiency) and qualitative measures as stand-ins. Obstructive: Passive-Aggressive (Negativistic) Personality Disorder and Narcissism
Everything You Need to Know about Narcissists, Psychopaths, and Abuse - click on this link: www.narcissistic-abuse.com Passive-aggressiveness wears a multitudes of guises: procrastination, malingering, perfectionism, forgetfulness, neglect, truancy, intentional inefficiency, stubbornness, and outright sabotage. This repeated and advertent misconduct has far reaching effects. Consider the Negativist in the workplace: he or she invests time and efforts in obstructing their own chores and in undermining relationships. But, these self-destructive and self-defeating behaviors wreak havoc throughout the workshop or the office. People diagnosed with the Negativistic (Passive-Aggressive) Personality Disorder resemble narcissists in some important respects. Despite the obstructive role they play, passive-aggressives feel unappreciated, underpaid, cheated, and misunderstood. They chronically complain, whine, carp, and criticize. They blame their failures and defeats on others, posing as martyrs and victims of a corrupt, inefficient, and heartless system (in other words, they have alloplastic defenses and an external locus of control). Passive-aggressives sulk and give the "silent treatment" in reaction to real or imagined slights. They suffer from ideas of reference (believe that they are the butt of derision, contempt, and condemnation) and are mildly paranoid (the world is out to get them, which explains their personal misfortune). In the words of the DSM: "They may be sullen ...
Default America: Recession & Reallocation
Joseph Salerno academic vice president of the Ludwig von Mises Institute - Professor of economics "Our factories aren't being run at full capacity and we have people in the wrong jobs or not working at all. These things can be fixed can be fixed by allowing the economy to adjust to supply and demand. By allowing resources to move from inefficient areas to the areas where they are more valuable to consumers." Dr. Christopher K. Coombs, assistant professor of economics and finance Louisiana State University Shreveport Board of Editors for International Advances in Economic Research (IAER) "When you look at the big picture is it really worth it. Maybe we should embrace the recession, maybe we should just hurt now or get over it now" Money printing "We are continuing to use cheap money to try to prevent the economy from falling further into recession. But recession is a natural thing; it naturally follows from the previous boom which is artificial. We need a recession to move resources from inefficient uses back to uses that are more efficient and that will bring about prosperity in the economy. " Peter Schiff President and CEO of Euro Pacific Capital Author of Crash Proof, Little Book of Bull Moves in Bear Markets and How an Economy Grows and Why it Crashes "And that's why it keeps collapsing. We need to rebuild it on a sounder foundation which means we all have to spend less. Individuals have to spend less, the government has to spend less which means we have to cut back on ...

What is Jan Lokpal Bill - Its Need and also its detailed Description by Arvind Kejriwal
Friends please give a mssed call on this no 022 - 61550789 if u are with anna hazare in his struggle against curroption and want to officially support him Social activists and spiritual leaders today joined hands with hundreds of people in a march against corruption to demand passage of 'Jan Lokpal Bill' to bring offenders to justice. The rally, organised by Art of Living Founder Sri Sri Ravishankar and noted RTI activist Arun Kejriwal, was addressed by eminent personalities like Kiran Bedi, Ram Jethmalani, Prashant Bhushan, Sashi Bhushan, Mehmood Madani, Medha Patekar and others. People walked through heart of the city from Ramlila Ground to Jantar Mantar under the banner of India Against Corruption, and raised slogan against rampant corruption and immediate passage of Jan Lokpal (Citizen's ombudsman) Bill. Former IPS officer Kiran Bedi addressing the crowd said the current law against corruption is "inefficient" to fight against corrupt people as it is "formulated to protect them". She claimed the proposed Bill will curb the menace as the Lokpal will be selected from a "people's panel" and not by the government. "There is lack of punishment and fear among corrupt bureaucrats and politicians, the existing laws are inefficient," she rued. The Lokpal Bill drafted by the government must be modified as per the Jan Lokpal Bill prepared by civil society groups, she said. The modified Bill aimed at making the investigating agencies independent from the government and also ...
What Would Alex Do?
There are some training techniques in sport and other body-based practices which involve the mobilisation of mental models. Typically these will involve some visualisable image and/or action. The technique is supposed to be effective because these images schematically organise what would otherwise be very complex and detailed sets of behaviours into a single gestalt, so rather than having to think about many different individual movements and adjustments the person concentrates on the visual image and this does the organising for them. I'm just wondering whether there might be correlates of this principle within the organisation of philosophical, ethical, or ideological behaviours. Like complex physical actions, maintaining a morality requires the organising of many different, separate, and highly detailed moral choices, across a wide range of ethically problematic situations. Having to approach each of these choices individually would be incredibly resource-intensive and inefficient, in the same way that having to think about the action of each muscle when walking would be inefficient. It would probably be better to have a single mental image or schema which co-ordinated and structured these moral behaviours, allowing them to function coherently and optimally. Maybe that's what the whole 'what would Jesus do?' thing is about. One key point of these mental moral schema is that, like the images which optimise physical behaviours, the person wouldn't need to 'believe' them ...
Frontal Lobe - Lobo Frontal
-The frontal lobe is an area in the brain of mammals. It is located at the front of each cerebral hemisphere and positioned anterior to (in front of) the parietal lobes and above and anterior to the temporal lobes. It is separated from the parietal lobe by the primary motor cortex, which controls voluntary movements of specific body parts associated with the precentral gyrus. In humans, the frontal lobe reaches full maturity around age 25[citation needed], marking the cognitive maturity associated with adulthood. Arthur Toga, UCLA, found increased myelin in the frontal lobe white matter of young adults compared to that of teens. A typical onset of schizophrenia in early adult years correlates with poorly myelinated and thus inefficient connections between cells in the fore-brain. The frontal lobe contains most of the dopamine-sensitive neurons in the cerebral cortex. The dopamine system is associated with reward, attention, long-term memory, planning, and drive. Dopamine tends to limit and select sensory information arriving from the thalamus to the fore-brain. A report from the National Institute of Mental Health says a gene variant that reduces dopamine activity in the prefrontal cortex is related to poorer performance and inefficient functioning of that brain region during working memory tasks, and to slightly increased risk for schizophrenia. -Edson Zerati, MD -January, 2, 2010 www.zerati.com

Who needs gasoline if you have old beer?
It sounds too good to be true: A residential system that allows people to make fuel from old beer, leftover wine and other waste products and use it to run their vehicles. That's what inventors of the E-Fuel MicroFueler claim, and there's support for the idea in government, industry and pop culture. MicroFueler buyers are eligible for a $5000 tax credit. Former LA Laker Shaquille O'Neal is an investor in the system's distributor. The $10000 E-Fuel MicroFueler consists of a 250-gallon tank for organic feedstock, such as waste wine and beer, and a still that converts it to pure ethanol, or E-Fuel. The still doubles as a fuel pump, which works similarly to those at gas stations. The only waste product is distilled water. "If we give everybody the ability to make their own fuel, you break the oil infrastructure," said MicroFueler inventor Tom Quinn, a Silicon Valley entrepreneur who also developed the motion-control system for the Nintendo Wii gaming system, a version of which is used in his new micro-refinery. "Three years ago, I looked at where the world was going, and energy caught my eye," said Quinn, chief executive of E-Fuel Corp. in Los Gatos. "As a world, we had no replacement fuel for gasoline, and that led me to alternative fuels such as ethanol." The problem with ethanol, Quinn said, was energy inefficiency -- not only in the carbon cost of growing, harvesting and transporting the corn that was used to make it, but also in the distillation process that turned it ...
