David West scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, George Hill added 15 and the Indiana Pacers took home-court advantage away from Miami by beating the Heat 78-75 in Game 2 of the teams' Eastern Conference semifinal series Tuesday night.LeBron James scored 28 points for Miami and Dwyane Wade finished with 24, but both missed big chances for the Heat late. James missed two free throws with 54.3 seconds left and Miami down one, and Wade was short on a layup that would have tied the game with 16 seconds remaining. Mario Chalmers' 3-pointer to tie bounced away on the final play, and the series was tied 1-1. Danny Granger scored 11 points and Paul George added 10 for Indiana, which took advantage of Heat forward Chris Bosh's absence and outrebounded Miami 50-40. Game 3 is Thursday in Indianapolis. "ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) - Many of you heard a loud boom Monday afternoon. Just before 3:00 pm, NewsChannel 15 received several calls from viewers in New Haven and northeast Fort Wayne. Allen County and New Haven police checked out those areas, but didn't find anything. Some think it could have been a sonic boom from a jet. For an official at the Fort Wayne Airport said there weren't many planes in the air around the time of the boom and are skeptical that would be the source. Indiana Man Fights Off Armed Media Youth Robber Over Moped and Wins
abcnews.go.com An Indiana man refused to back down from an armed teenager trying to steal his friend's moped, defiantly shouting and pointing into the mouth of a long-barreled handgun. Timothy Gramza, 56, was outside his South Bend, Ind., home April 1 packing some wood into his truck as he prepared to move to Alabama for a new job. Four friends were standing outside the part of the house that Gramza uses as his woodworking shop, which has a security camera perched on top that captured the entire encounter. At about 11:20 am, a young man in a hooded sweatshirt walked by in the street, pass a blue moped belonging to Gramza's 70-year-old friend. Seconds later, he came back without the hood on, exposing his face. He got on the moped and tried to turn it on. As Gramza moved toward him, the would-be robber pointed the gun directly at him. "You've heard the expression, don't take a knife to a gunfight; the only thing [Gramza] has was an armed finger," South Bend Det. Sgt. Eugene Eyster said. "It's one of those when you're telling yourself, either this man has a lot of guts or he's about to lose all that he has." Eyster said Gramza had taken his gun out of the seat of the moped moments before the attempted robber and put it in his back pocket, but did not take it out during the confrontation with the suspect. "You see him reach several times to his back pocket, but he just couldn't do it," Eyster said. "He couldn't make himself shoot a teenager." Gramza and the suspect circled ...

Chris Bosh's strained abdominal muscle is likely going to hinder him for "weeks" according to Miami Heat beat writer Ira Winderman. It is clear that the Heat are capable of winning without Bosh, but the question remains: do they know how to? Last night's game 2 final minute letdown in Miami is symptomatic of Coach Spoelstra's lack of preparation to win without Bosh. Even though it is unlikely that Bosh would take the last shot when you have LeBron James and D-Wade on your team, Bosh is a capable offensive rebounder in the clutch and is, at the very least, a distraction. The real challenges for Miami Heat is not exactly defense, as the Heat have held Indiana to a disgusting 38% shooting in game 2 and 40% in game 1. The problem is that Miami is only shooting about the same percentage as Indiana, going for 40% in game 1 and an abysmal 34.6% in game 2. Without Bosh, there's no reason for Indiana to guard anyone other than Miami's Big Two until someone like Chalmers or Mike Miller step up to ...

Hoosier Nation celebrates a buzzer-beater win over #1 Kentucky! Background: Indiana University has a long and storied basketball history. In spring of 2008, former coach Kelvin Sampson was forced to resign amid serious NCAA allegations. Coach Tom Crean, who left Marquette for IU "because it's Indiana, it's Indiana" faced a monumental rebuilding task: the Hoosiers had lost 11 players from the previous year (3 transferred, 3 dismissed, 3 graduated, 2 NBA draft) and were penalized by the NCAA. Undersized and undermanned, the Hoosiers fought for three season, playing with passion and energy, but ultimately succumbing to better talent. Their record over those three seasons: 28-66, 8-46 in the Big Ten Conference. In fall of 2011, with a balanced and more-experienced roster, Hoosier Nation felt poised for a return to relevancy, perhaps even a post-season run. A soft schedule allowed IU to start the season 8-0, and though it felt different from the previous seasons under Coach Crean, few expected Indiana to be able to compete for 40 minutes with rival Kentucky, the top team in the country and one that features several future NBA stars.
