13. Sequential games: moral hazard, incentives, and hungry lions
Game Theory (ECON 159) We consider games in which players move sequentially rather than simultaneously, starting with a game involving a borrower and a lender. We analyze the game using "backward induction." The game features moral hazard: the borrower will not repay a large loan. We discuss possible remedies for this kind of problem. One remedy involves incentive design: writing contracts that give the borrower an incentive to repay. Another involves commitment strategies; in this case providing collateral. Speaker: Professor Ernst Fehr Chair: Professor Frank Cowell This event was recorded on 24 February 2011 in Old Theatre, Old Building Authority and power permeate political, social, and economic life - yet there is limited empirical knowledge about the motivational origins and consequences of authority. Based on an experimental approach, Ernst Fehr's lecture will explore the psychological consequences of authority for important economic interactions. He will document the human desire to exercise authority, the motivation-enhancing effect of possessing authority and the detrimental motivational effects of a lack of authority. Ernst Fehr is director of the Department of Economics at the University of Zurich. He has conducted influential research on the role of social preferences in competition, cooperation and incentive provision.

On 6 November 2009, I was blessed with an F-16 Incentive Flight at Luke AFB (2008 944FW Airman of the Year.) It was an amazing experience that I will never forget. Some of the maneuvers we did included a loop, several aileron rolls and 4-point rolls, 9 Gz, and a combat takeoff.
