This is school project some friends and I made. They went out and got the info and I put the video together. I guess we did a good job 'cause we aced it. XD The music in this is by James Newton Howard from Lady in the Water. I chose it because it seemed fitting to the topic what with the cocky European nations feeling the need to take over Africa simply because they felt superior so yes, it is a tad dramatic. :D

European Civilization, 1648-1945 (HIST 202) The boom in European colonial expansion in the second half of the nineteenth century, the so-called New Imperialism, can be seen to follow from three principle factors, in ascending order of importance: religious proselytizing, profit, and inter-imperial political strategy. With respect to the latter concern, the conflicts emerging from imperialism set the stage for World War I. Along with its military and industrial consequences, imperialism also entailed a large-scale cultural program dedicated to strengthening support for its objectives among the domestic populations of the imperial powers. France Since 1871 (HIST 276) France's colonial properties were thought of in the latter half of the nineteenth century as consolation for the bitter loss of Alsace and Lorraine to Germany. As civilian administrators came to replace military personnel in the colonies, and as more and more French settlers arrived, empire and colonialism came to play an important function in France's cultural self-presentation. Lowkey: 'Bush imperialism continues under Obama'
President Barak Obama says now is the time to make a change in the Middle East and North Africa. Will he take the peaceful route as he promised back on the campaign trail, though? Musician, poet and playwright Lowkey doubts the President is sincere and that, rather, his message is falling on deaf ears. Obama, says Lowkey, was elected on the promise of being everything George W. Bush wasn't. Donald Rumsfeld thinks Obama has kept all those policies he intended on straying from, but according to Lowkey, the administration has only extended them further by driving America further into war and doing more harm than good overseas.
LowKey: Libya war imperialist hypocrisy
Britain, France and the US are interested in sustaining the civil war in Libya in order to secure access to oil and ongoing military contracts. "It's about sustaining the period of civil war and thus destabilizing the revolutions which took place in Tunisia and Egypt," says rapper and activist LowKey. It's more about ongoing imperialism and the military industrial complex than aiding the people and highlights US hypocrisy.

The series was executive produced by the television critic Steven H. Scheuer and Loomis Irish, Head of the Television and Radio Department at Brooklyn College. Scheuer is a renowned film and television historian who in 2007 co-author with his wife Alida Brill Scheuer, the "Pocket Guide to Collecting Movies on DVD" a title that was subsequently released as a Sony e-book. Among his many other writings, Scheuer edited "Movies on TV" (originally titled "TV Movie Almanac & Ratings") which was published in 17 editions between 1958 and 1993 and was the first highly regarded large scale film review almanac. Over a 4-year period more than 200 episodes of this series were produced with hundreds of panelists, including Dan Rather and Mike Wallace. This two DVD set selects ten of the best episodes from "All About TV" and "World:Comm" series. Anyone interested in the evolving history of television will find these programs fascinating. They also provide a rich source of material for television and media historians.
