Frank Sinatra & The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra - 'Imagination'
Another track form the Early Years...This is another big band number where the singer is still regarded as an accessory. This would be 1940 and Frank was just settling in with the Tommy Dorsey Band. Frank is still learning his craft and is some years away from attaining his 'Chairman of the Board' and 'ole Blue eyes' dominance. However, he was becoming the star attraction with the 'Bobby Sox' generation of young women - they were becoming aware of him through radio broadcasts and were rushing out to buy his records The Bands of the Swing era were the best vehicles for an aspiring singer to use to become a star in their own right. -- And it was quickly becoming a two way traffic in celebrity exchange. The Band is the Tommy Dorsey Swing Band, which was becoming a hothouse for singing talent -- Having signed up Jo Stafford and the Pied Pipers,( the harmony group of which Jo was a founder member) among other top singers. Little Jimmy Scott--Imagination
For more than five decades, vocalist Jimmy Scott has numbered the jazz world's best singers among his select group of fans. No less an authority than Billie Holiday named Scott -- and only Scott -- as a vocalist she admired. Although he was, for a period, "perhaps the most unjustly ignored American singer of the 20th century" (according to Joseph Hooper in a New York Times Magazine profile), Scott today is once more finding a dedicated international audience for his emotionally penetrating art. Born in 1925 in Cleveland, Ohio, where he still lives, James Victor Scott got his first big break in 1949, when Lionel Hampton hired him and billed him as "Little Jimmy Scott." As featured vocalist with the Hampton big band, Scott achieved fame in 1950 with the ballad "Everybody's Somebody's Fool." His success continued throughout the next decade, notably with his hit recording in 1955 of the old Bing Crosby favorite "When Did You Leave Heaven?," a song that he made his own. Scott subsequently spent long periods away from the microphone, working for a time as a hotel shipping clerk and as a caretaker for his ailing father. He returned to the stage in 1985 and began recording again in 1990, and his career took off again two years later when Seymour Stein heard him perform at songwriter Doc Pomus's funeral and signed him to the Warner Brothers Sire label. Good quality video recorded in the studio on Top Of The Pops 1981. Love This Group. They had chart hits in twenty eight countries, earning four platinum discs, nine gold discs and over a dozen silver discs around the world between 1981 and 1983. Quality rare video, more to come from these guys thats for sure, recorded from Top Of The Pops 1981. Formed in 1981, the trio took a demo tape of a track called "Body Talk" to producers Jolley & Swain. It was released as a single in April 1981 under the group name Imagination, a name that the group chose as a tribute to John Lennon. The track reached number 4 in the UK Singles Chart in May 1981, selling 250000 copies in the UK and spending eighteen weeks in the Top 50. They had two more hit singles that year, "In and Out of Love" (September) and "Flashback" (November), both of which peaked at number 16, all from their debut album, also called Body Talk. Their biggest hit, "Just an Illusion", peaked at number two in March 1982 ("Just an Illusion" would later be used as the end title song to the 1986 movie, F/X); followed by "Music and Lights" (number five in June), "In the Heat of the Night" (number 22 in September, also the name of their second album) and "Changes" (number 31 in December). This was accompanied by a sell-out concert tour of Europe, with twenty two dates in the UK.
