Hyung-ki Joo & Billy Joel
"For rock 'n' roll, I am OK, but for this kind of music, I wanted a true virtuoso, someone who knows how to express all the nuances, who intuitively understands all the dynamics, and who can deliver a bravura performance on the instrument. And so, someone like Hyung-ki Joo is perfect." BILLY JOEL

Join us on a journey through our wacky hall of mirrors and see for yourself all the weird and wonderful ways these two languages come together to reflect the Zeitgeist of the new millennium. We live in an age in which the market economy tyrannizes over art. The quality of an artwork is judged by the quantity of sales. We all squint at the sales-volume statistics, the chart placement and the commercial media presence. The more popular, the better. Everyone wants to be a superstar! But in consequence, we all too often lose sight of the true meaning of music: the uplifting union of feeling and intellect, the intimate and profoundly emotional expression of the soul. BEING GIDON KREMER takes a critical and entertaining look at classical music through a magnifying glass. By means of this close-up, we hope to achieve a healthy distance from all forms of commercial dumbing-down. So lets laugh together about whats laughable, and marvel afresh at musics endless marvels! We wish you a wonderful musical journey! We, meaning Gidon Kremer and the Kremerata Baltica, Aleksey Igudesman and Richard Hyung-ki Joo. Music in its most beautiful form ...

The Malkovich Torment
www.alekseyigudesman.com THE MALKOVICH TORMENT is the final piece of the project "The Music Critic" premiered at Julian Rachlin & Friends festival 2010. The text is a translation from an original critic about an appearance of John Malkovich in Istanbul. The music is composed by Aleksey Igudesman. THE MUSIC CRITIC Schumann fancies himself a "composer" while Brahms is a gift-less bastard and Debussy is simply ugly. Igudesman has created a sardonic melange of the most evil original music critiques of the last centuries many of them written about some of the greatest works of chamber music. Malkovich slips into the role of the evil music critic, who believes the music of Beethoven, Chopin, Ravel and the like to be weary and dreary, while Julian Rachlin and other great musicians beg to differ. Music by Bach, Piazzolla, Beethoven, Brahms, Chopin, Debussy, Ravel, Kanchelli, Prokofiev, Schumann and Igudesman. www.rachlinandfriends.com

Igudesman & Joo: Looking for Mozart - Part 1/4
www.igudesmanandjoo.com Part2 www.youtube.com Part3 www.youtube.com Part4 www.youtube.com "Looking for Mozart" just "happened" to us. Everything we say here is improvised and entirely unscripted, as most people can guess. We were searching for new ideas for "A Little Nightmare Music" during a trip to Italy, filming ourselves in order not to forget what we said. When we looked through the material, we realized that most of it was unusable in any way whatsoever. We decided to take the worst of that and make a "mockumentary", or rather a "crapumentary", out of it. It happened to be the "Mozart Year", which was a big thing in Vienna and, although we love his music, very annoying to musicians who were force-fed Mozart on a daily base. There are a few brief clips with Gidon Kremer, which we filmed after a performance in his Lockenhaus Festival. We are presently developing a new music & comedy project with Gidon and the Kremerata Baltica, which is due to be premiered in 2008.
