Comedian storms out of interview with Huw Edwards
Stand-up comic Brendon Burns expressed mock rage and made a dramatic exit, when he appeared on the BBC News Channel. He pretended to be "outraged" at fellow comic Tim Vine's receipt of the award for best joke at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, presented by digital TV channel Dave. The winning one-liner was: "I've just been on a once-in-a-lifetime holiday. I'll tell you what, never again." The untimely exit by the Australian comedian appeared to backfire, when he was unable to return to the live broadcast in time, due to some technical difficulties.

Silaging with John Deere 7950. Huw Davies and Team.
Got news that a local farm was silaging today and saw this outfit on its way - the John Deere 7850 Forage Harvester and Deere tractors and a Rowing up job behind a New Holland. Discovered it was Huw Davies from Dan Rheol (seen earlier on my first silaging video of 2010). A real gentleman, Huw made me feel feel welcome rather than a nuisance, and one of his drivers, Helen, was on an earlier video of New Holland 175 ploughing. There's more of this . . . .

Huw Price on Truth Part 1
In this lecture, renowned philosopher Huw Price explores the concept of 'truth'. The Culture Wars have given way to the Truth Wars, but this is just a new name for an ancient conflict. From Plato to Nagel, Protagoras to Rorty, philosophy's two great families have have been feuding over the same patch of muddied ground for a hundred generations. Absolutists versus relativists, realists versus idealists, platonists versus pragmatists: the slogans swing to and fro, but both sides are well-entrenched, and the frontlines rarely move. In this talk Price introduced this conflict through the eyes of Simon Blackburn, whose new book "Truth: A Guide For the Perplexed" (Penguin, 2005) offers an engaging mix of embedded journalism and irenic road-mapping. However, Price argued that Blackburn's peace plan has a fatal flaw and offered an alternative peace proposal, which has the advantage of being sufficiently even-handed to be rejected by both sides. Huw Price is an Australian Research Council Federation Fellow and Challis Professor of Philosophy at the University of Sydney, where he heads the Centre for Time in the Department of Philosophy. He was formerly Professor of Logic and Metaphysics in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Edinburgh. Slides for this talk are available at ses.library.usyd.edu.au Visit Prof. Price site for many online publications: www.usyd.edu.au Especially relevant to this talk are the following papers on truth, "Three norms of assertibility, or ...

Michael Jackson - 'Human Nature' solo bass cover by Huw Foster
This song has been covered oodles of times in various ways, so I hope my version is unique enough! I recorded this performance in the first full take, so there's the odd fluffed note, but I like to think it has an energy that would have been lost had I made multiple attempts... ha! Note: I've had major problems syncing the video and audio for this one. I blame my laptop. It's probably something to do with "conflicting sample rates", but I still blame my laptop. www.huwfoster.co.uk http
Jamiroquai - '(Don't) Give Hate a Chance' bass playalong by Huw Foster
Great bassline from a great song, taken from Jamiroquai's 2005 album Dynamite. For the chorus (which I believe is synth bass on the original recording) I'm using an octave pedal, in an attempt to emulate how Paul Turner plays it live. Please excuse the array of odd faces made throughout. Or don't - there's always a chance you'll find them entertaining. If so, good for you. Gear used: 1995 Music Man Stingray 3EQ Boss OC-2 Octave Capture: Focusrite Saffire 6 USB audio interface MacBook pro running iMovie and Logic Pro In Logic I added a noise gate and compression to the bass. I also cut some low-mid from the backing track in an attempt to eliminate as much of the original bassline as possible. Which is a shame really, because it's awesome. Now it's been replaced by the efforts of some moron in his bedroom who thinks he can do better WOOOO!!! www.huwfoster.co.uk http

Harrods of London sold to Qatar. Joe Lynam BBC News. Introduced by Huw Edwards
The Egyptian businessman, Mohamed Al Fayed, has sold Harrods for around one-and-a-half billion pounds. The new owner -- Qatar Holdings -- has been chosen because it has promised to maintain the traditions of the world-famous department store in London. Mr Al Fayed assumed control of Harrods in 1985 after a takeover battle with the tycoon, Tiny Rowland. A spokesman said today he'd decided to retire and spend more time with his children and grandchildren. As our Business Correspondent, Joe Lynam, reports, it's the end of an era for a colourful and controversial figure -- as well as for a shop, which has become a byword for British-ness and luxury:
Gioachino Rossini - Torvaldo e Dorliska - "Quest'ultimo addio" (Huw Rhys-Evans & Paola Signa)
The series of musical excepts from Giachino Rossini's operas, entitled "Master of Belcanto", continues with new uploads and a whole new concept. I decided to do something a bit different for my new upload: a compilation based on a single theme which is featured prominently in all selections. The first theme is love (what else :)?). The compilation is entitled: "Tornami a dir che m'ami". Originally, I had planned a more diverse program which would have included arias as well as duets. But when I saw the size of the content I wanted to upload (the remaining compilation is about two hours long), I decided to do love arias as a separate series. The chosen items include love scenes from the very first to the very last operas by Rossini. We start at "L'occasione fa il ladro" with a simple pastoral duet and finish at the beginning of the second act of "Guillaume Tell" with a romantic grand scena. Such an approach gives us a chance to understand how Rossini's composing style changed with each passing year. The presented excepts are listed below with some notes detailing their characteristics. As the whole compilation is quite large, I'm going to upload everything slowly. 1) «Se non m'inganna il core» for Alberto and Berenice from «L'occasione fa il ladro». www.youtube.com 2) «Quanto e dolce a un'alma amante» for Florville and Sofia from "Il Signor Bruschino". www.youtube.com 3) "L'aura che intorno spiri" for Amenaide and Tancredi from "Tancredi". www.youtube.com 4) "Credete alle ...
