www.traviskraft.com Retrieving a Hummer from the bottom of a frozen lake in North Dakota... Uncle Frank was out ice fishing with his family and they drove over a part of the lake that has warm springs under it(there were no markings or warnings) and the front end went through the ice. Frank and his family were able to get out quickly before the entire thing went through the ice narrowly escaping. Thankfully no one was hurt but it was a close call. 2 days later he had to return to get the Hummer from the bottom of the lake. It is the law that you must retrieve the vehicle. It was covered by insurance. We had no idea how to get a vehicle from the bottom of a frozen lake so I went along to document it. It was quite a process as you will see. I am used to living in Los Angeles so I had a lot of trouble being in that extreme cold. Grandpa was drilling holes to ice fish while we waited and he worked up quite a sweat. This is just a short video I made showing my new hummer h3. It was a birthday gift from my grandparents. It Drives really good and has more power than the one that I test drove when they first came out. 3.5 litter 5 cylinder engine 4500 pound tow capacity 6000 pound max tow weight. Its not really that hard on gas like hummers have reputations for.

Hummer H2, H3 & H3T vs Jeep JK at Beasley Knob
3 Hummers (H2, H3, & H3T) and a Jeep JK hit 93C at Beasley Knob. At the first big hill climb, the H3s both spun their tires until winching and towing themselves out. There was a stock Nissan Pathfinder that made a valiant effort, and made it just as far as the H3s before getting winched. The H2 made it through, but I wasn't there to see it - had to leave the park for a bit to get the wife. I filmed myself going up the same section, and the jeep did not spin a tire at all. You can jump to 11:47 to see the JK hit it. IMO the H3s failed due to a lack of articulation - no flex whatsoever in the front. One had lockers, the other only limited slip, but it didn't make much of a difference.

Car Bumper Crashes Are Costly Watch Hummer and other SUVs Crash IIHS: Federal Bumper Standards Should Apply to Light Trucks Cars, SUVs and pickups share the road, but they don't share the same standard for bumpers. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has petitioned the federal government to regulate the bumpers on light trucks (SUVs, pickups, and vans) just as it regulates those on cars. The same bumper rules should apply to all kinds of passenger vehicles. To meet federal rules, car bumpers must be 16 to 20 inches off the ground and limit the amount of damage that can be sustained in a low-speed crash. The idea is to ensure that the bumpers on colliding cars engage, absorbing most of the energy of the impact and keeping damage away from expensive-to-repair parts - like fenders, grilles, headlights, and taillights. Car bumper rules don't apply to light trucks. In fact, it's still legal to sell these vehicles without any bumpers at all. Federal regulators' longstanding thinking is that requiring light trucks to have bumpers would compromise off-road navigation and make it hard to use these vehicles at loading ramps. The Institute counters that putting damage-resistant bumpers on light trucks needn't compromise utility. New SUV-to-car crash test results: A series of low-speed crash tests shows why.
