Steve had previously (after the tragedy) thought that it would be a good idea to do a "We Are The World" type song with all of the artists he knew, but initially thought it would be too much work with scheduling all of the singers. TRIAGE : Dr. James Orbinski's Humanitarian Dilemma (Clip)
www.nfb.ca The act of triage is the ultimate humanitarian nightmare. Racing against time with limited resources, relief workers make split-second decisions: who gets treatment; who gets food; who lives; who dies. This impossible dilemma understandably haunts humanitarians like Dr. James Orbinski, who accepted the 1999 Nobel Peace Prize on behalf of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) as their president, and was a field doctor during the Somali famine and the Rwandan genocide, among other catastrophes. Having seen the best and worst of humanitarian assistance and of humanity itself, Orbinski embarks on his most difficult mission to date-writing a deeply personal and controversial book that struggles to make sense of it all. Learn more about Dr. Orbinski : www.nfb.ca "What one observes via Reed's portrait isn't that Orbinski is defiant of danger, but that his sense of decency is so strong it over-powers any fear." - John Anderson, Variety "The film, in a literal sense, shows the difference one person can make." - Anthony Breznican, USA Today More reviews : www.nfb.ca

International humanitarian law: a universal code
Is international humanitarian law up to the job of protecting the people affected by modern-day armed conflicts? This film looks in turns at the poor security conditions frequently confronting the civilian population, the fact that people often have to flee their homes, hostage-taking, the dangers posed by cluster munitions, and the work of preventing and, punishing war crimes. It tells us the basic rules of the law and reminds us that respecting them is everyone's responsibility. www.icrc.org

Riz Khan - Rethinking humanitarian aid
Does the vast industry of aid increase dependency and undermine self-reliance? Does it encourage misguided policies, instead of forcing governments to make much-needed reforms? Are there times when humanitarian aid actually hurts the recipients more than it helps them?
Riz Khan - Junk food or humanitarian aid?
There are currently an estimated 195 million children suffering from malnutrition around the world, according to the international medical humanitarian organisation Doctors Without Borders. The problem is compounded by the politics surrounding global food aid programmes, with critics concerned that supplies donated consist of nutritionally inadequate fortified corn-soy flours that fail to provide the nutrients young children need most. On this episode, we ask: Is the West dumping its substandard food on the developing world? Do international food donors really provide sustainable aid or are they actually part of the problem? How can the West really help the world's poor to beat malnutrition?

Hinckley, Former President of the Church, has made the following comments about the Church's humanitarian efforts: I am deeply grateful that as a Church we are extending humanitarian aid when there is sore distress. We have done a great deal and have blessed the lives of many people who are not of our faith but who also are children of our Father. We will continue to do so for as long as we have the means. To all who have contributed to this effort we express our thanks (Gordon B. Hinckley, "Thanks to the Lord for His Blessings," Ensign, May 1999, 88). Now, as a Church we have worked with others in lifting the sorrow and sufferings of those who are in distress. Our humanitarian efforts have literally blessed the lives of countless thousands not of our faith. In the terrible tsunami disaster, and in other ...

Lies behind the "Humanitarian War" in Libya: There is no evidence! (Part 1), NATO Crimes In Libya.
This document makes it possible to understand how international law and justice works, but mostly how its basic principles can be bypassed. The resolutions passed against Lybia are based on various allegations : notably on the statement claiming that Gaddafi had lead jet attacks on his own people and engaged in a violent repression against uprising, killing more than 6000 civilians. These allegations were spread before they could have been verified. Eventhough it was on the basis of this claim that the Lybian Jamahiriya governement was suspended from the United Nations Human Rights Council, before being referred to the United Nations Security Council. One of the main sources for the claim that Gaddafi was killing his own people is the Libyan League for Human Rights, an organisation linked to the International Federation of Human Rights (the FIDH). On the 21st of February 2011, the General-Secretary of the LLHR, Dr. Soliman Bouchuiguir, initiated a petition in collaboration with the organisation UN Watch and the National Endowment for Democracy. This petition was signed by more than 70 NGOs. Then a few days later, on the 25th of February, Dr. Soliman Bouchuiguir went to UN Human Rights Council in order to expose the allegations concerning the crimes of Gaddafi's government. In July 2011 we went to Geneva to interview Dr. Soliman Bouchuiguir. Soliman Bouchuguir is an unheard of figure for most, but he has authored a doctoral thesis that has been widely quoted and used in ...
Responsibility to Protect: Exposing the "Humanitarian" War Lie - Pepe Escobar on GRTV
As the world recovers from one humanitarian peace bombing in Libya, and braces for another possible intervention in Syria, many are now asking how it is that the so-called liberal left have become cheerleaders for the very wars of aggression they once pretended to deride. As long-time investigate reporter Pepe Escobar explains, an obscure international doctrine called Responsibility To Protect or R2P has been the main tool for shaping this new paradigm for the continuation of NATO's imperial power grabs around the world. Find out more about the history of this doctrine in this week's GRTV Feature Interview with our special guest Pepe Escobar.

Paul Joseph Watson: NATO Prepares "Humanitarian" Occupation Of Libya
Thousands of British and American troops on standby to head off potential Gaddafi counter-attack Paul Joseph Watson www.infowars.com Tuesday, August 23, 2011 Preparing to head off any potential counter-attack by Gaddafi forces, NATO powers are readying a "humanitarian" occupation of Libya with thousands of British and American soldiers, risking the possibility that troops could be sent into yet another quagmire to rival Afghanistan and Iraq. Eager to control the country's vast oil resources and its 144 tons of gold bullion, a plan to send in troops would represent a complete violation of the UN's own resolution authorizing military intervention, unless of course the soldiers were labeled "peacekeepers" and inserted under humanitarian cover. Recall that the EU ground invasion force that was proposed back in April was similarly couched in humanitarian rhetoric and yet would have been empowered to "secure sea and land corridors inside the country," a transparent military objective. "Hundreds of British soldiers could be sent to Libya to serve as peacekeepers if the country descends into chaos, Downing Street indicated last night," reports the Daily Mail. "The troops have been on standby for Libya since the start of July. All their kit is packed and they are just waiting to get the call to go," said one source. Similarly, a US occupation force has also been on standby for several months. As Infowars reported back in June, military sources indicated that 30000 troops from the ...
Pakistan floods 2010 - Angelina Jolie, UN chief, Humanitarian Day appeal...
Pakistan floods 2010 - UN chief Ban Ki-moon, and Angela Jolie appeal - spsyed analysis. UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador Angelina Jolie has pledged her tried and tested support to help victims of Pakistan's super floods of the century. The massive challenge was too huge for any government or party to undertake on its own. Some 12 per cent of the population, over 20 million people, have been affected by one of the worst catastrophes in Pakistan's history. More than eight million need food, shelter and water. The distribution of aid cannot keep pace with the sheer scale of the massive disaster. The super floods, triggered by torrential monsoon rains in July-August 2010, engulfed Pakistan's Indus river basin, killing up to 1600 people. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon visited Pakistan to assess the clossal damage caused by the devastating super floods. He met the country's politicians to discuss the country's worst floods in decades as popular anger mounts over the government's failure to tackle the crisis. Ban urged the international community to speed up its assistance to Pakistan. He spoke on the urgent need of over 20 million people affected by the super floods. "I am here ... to urge the world community to speed up their assistance to the Pakistani people. We will try to mobilise all necessary assistance and remember that the whole world is behind the people of Pakistan in this time of trial," Ban Ki-moon said. He warned of a second wave of deaths unless flood victims receive ...
