Hudson River Plane Crash Pilot: "Obvious to me...this was a critical situation." "Brace for impact."

Captain Sullenberger; The right man, in the right place, at the right time. We should all try to be just a little more like this man. We need more men like Sullenberger—men of great character—in the world today. He was one cool cookie when most of us would have been freaking out. He did his job most likely as good as anyone in the world could have done; he was 100% professional, calm, cool, and collected. Like he said, his entire life was in preparation to handle that one particular moment. A few days after the crash he called the library to inform them that he was not going to be able to return a book that he had checked out because it was still on the plane, and that he was sorry. The library wouldn't tell anyone the name of the book, but they did reveal the subject matter...it was professional ethics. He must have been honing up his character traits; trying to make himself a better man. jbranstetter04 Hudson River crash recordings reveal calm of Captain Sullenberger His quick thinking under pressure has already been hailed across the world. Now transcripts of the final communication from the aircraft that crashed on the Hudson reveal how its pilot calmly radioed air traffic controllers that he was planning to land in the river next to Manhattan. The audio recordings from the stricken jet, released yesterday, reveal that air traffic control met the news with disbelief. Its nice to see that we still have people who are so professional, and that they do what needs to be done, the way that it needs to be done, and when it needs to be done. Hudson River Plane Crash Pilot: "...did we make the best choices?" - US Airway Flight 1549 -

Captain Sullenberger said: "People...want good news; they want to feel hopeful again." Thats the best part about this story; it had a good ending that made you feel hopeful in the goodness of the American people, that we are still what we used to be, a good people and country. Captain Sullenberger says he will not deny that he is a hero, because he does not want to take away from what people are feeling; he is not going to diminish their good will by saying that they are wrong: he will not rain on their parade. I would bet that he does not consider himself a hero. Im sure that he thinks he was only doing his job, and I would agree with him. But what a job he did, if only the rest of us would do our jobs as well, think of the world that we would be living in. jbranstetter04 Hudson River crash recordings reveal calm of Captain Sullenberger His quick thinking under pressure has already been hailed across the world. US Airways plane crash on the Hudson River

Let's thank not only the Captian, but the rest of the flight crew and cabin staff. This was a collective effort by all. A cool-headed pilot maneuvered his crippled jetliner over New York City and ditched it in the frigid Hudson River on Thursday, and all 155 on board were pulled to safety as the plane slowly sank. It was, the governor said, "a miracle on the Hudson." One victim suffered two broken legs, a paramedic said, but there were no other reports of serious injuries. US Airways Flight 1549, an Airbus A320 bound for Charlotte, NC, struck a flock of birds just after takeoff minutes earlier at LaGuardia Airport, apparently disabling the engines. The pilot, identified as Chesley B. "Sully" Sullenberger III of Danville, Calif., "was phenomenal," passenger Joe Hart said. "He landed it — I tell you what, the impact wasn't a whole lot more than a rear-end (collision). It threw you into the seat ahead of you. "Both engines cut out and he actually floated it into the river," he said. In a city still wounded from the aerial attack on the World Trade Center, authorities were quick to assure the public that terrorism wasn't involved. The plane was submerged up to its windows in the river by the time rescuers arrived, including Coast Guard vessels and commuter ferries that happened to be nearby. Some passengers waded in water up to their knees, standing on the wing of the plane and waiting for help. Helen Rodriguez, a paramedic who was among the first to arrive at the scene, said ...
