Follow me on TWITTER HERE http Join me on FACEBOOK HERE www.facebook.com Hello my dear students..for some reason I keep getting requests for a certain word show all the requests -- and that word is M*sturbation.. You know... A big date with Rosy Palms, Auditioning the finger puppets, Coming to grips with yourself or Having sex with someone you love? Yeah, that M*sturbation. It's a funny sounding word, which sounds like there is a Master in the word, hence the reason why it is misspelled so often. But where did the word M*sturbation come from? Is it truly a SIN to m*sturbate as Christine O'Donnell, the Republican nominee for the US Senate in Delaware, states? HotForWords investigates M*sturbation! Reading Book.. looks up shocked. M*sturbation and stupidity are linked etymologically? I know that M*sturbation makes you blind, but it also makes you stupid? Must investigate further! OK.. I'm back and I learned some interesting facts. First being the definition. M*sturbation, as we know, is the stimulation, usually by hand, of one's genitals for sexual pleasure. But, believe it or not, it also means stimulating someone else's genitals! I did not know that! The word M*sturbation comes to English from the French M*sturbation which in turn came from the Latin masturbatus which originally came from manstuprare from manus meaning hand where manual comes from and stuprare meaning "defile" related to stupere where stupid comes from ...

I'll just get shipped back to Russia and figure out some other way to get to America! Bummer!" "As you can see.. I tried that Mail Order Bride thing out... and even though it worked great for the other girls it didn't go so well for me! I ended up having to use my degrees in etymology to get to America!" Which brings me to today's lesson, and that lesson is "Mail Order Bride"... not Male Order as the movie was titled! Mail as in postal mail. Were brides ever ordered and sent through the mail? A mail order bride is a bride that is met from another country originally through the mail. The concept is not new and has in fact been around since at least the early settlers of the North American continent. Some men that arrived in America found that there was a shortage of women, so they wrote back home to Europe looking for potential wives to ship over. Since photographs where hard to come by back then, they pretty much had to trust that the description of the woman was close to what the woman looked like! During World War 2, American military men were not meeting any women while at war, so they would oftentimes write home to women they had never met in person and propose to them. So these types of arranged marriages have been ...

It's onomatopoetic. It sounds like what it means. and when you are really sick and you feel like throwing up, well, that's where Hurley comes from.... from Hurl.. you know when you hurl - you throw up..." Follow me on TWITTER HERE twitter.com Join me on FACEBOOK HERE www.facebook.com www.facebook.com www.getcrackin.com Mmmm.. so good! I just love pistachio nuts, don't you? They're wonderful! How do you eat them? I can't eat them like Milos Columbo from the James Bond movie who just popped the whole nut into his mouth then spit out the shell! "Are you a... hold on a second".. "Mmmm, tasty!" "Are you a .." and she looks up .."spy?".. "Hey, where did you go?? I guess I don't eat pistachio nuts in as cool a manner as that Milos guy! But anyway... back to the pistachio. Where did the pistachio nut come from? And how did it get its name? HotForWords investigates the pistachio! Pistachio has an interesting origin because it came to English in the 1590s from the Italian pistacchio, which is turn came from the Latin pistacium, which meant, of all things a "Pistachio nut!'' and that came from the Greek pistakion which meant... guess.... close... "pistachio tree" which in turn came from the Persian pista which also meant "pistachio tree!" So pistachio is one of those rare words that didn't really change meaning going all the way back to its origin! Pistachios have the same meaning in all these different languages, but where did the pistachio originate from? Well, the first archaeological findings of pistachios go all the way back to around 6760 BC in the territory today known as Jordan and they were considered food for the rich and the chosen. Pistachios flourish in warm climates and ...

Thanksgiving has a long, interesting history, so sit back, relax (don't pass out from the tryptophan yet) and enjoy some brain food! Intro In December 11, 1620, Pilgrims on the Mayflower set ground at Plymouth Rock after a long journey from Europe. There were a 102 people on board, but their first winter in the new land was devastating, and 46 people died. But in 1621, the harvest was a bountiful one and the remaining colonists decided to celebrate, and included the 91 Indians who, without them, it is said, the colonists would not have survived. The feast was like a traditional English harvest feast and lasted 3 days ...

Where did the expression "Eye Candy" come from? Hello my dear students! Hello my dear students! Today... Am I like blocking your view or something? Anywho, lately I've been wondering why so many people have been staring at me everywhere I go. Eye-Candy baby! I wasn't sure what to make of that. Could being called eye-candy be the reason why everyone has been staring at me? What is eye-candy? And is this guy next to me still staring at me? I'm sorry but is there a problem here? No. Not at all. I've been eyeing your candy actually. You've been eying my what? How dare you! Your candy. You haven't touched it or eaten it. Can I have it? Oh! HotForWords investigates "Eye-Candy." Sorry, I'm saving it for later. Never am I going to that bar again. Oh sorry, hehe. These things are kind of addicting. Speaking of addicting, I realized that just like candy, people can visually have an addicting appeal to them. Lets take for example Anna Kournikova! She's is definitely hot, right? Russia seems to breed some seriously hot women, right? Well, eye-candy is defined as someone or something that is visually arresting, visually appealing to look at! But, why eye-candy? Well, the candy part was added to phrases because candy is so good! But candy is also empty calories, which is why the candy part attached to phrases is not always the ...

Where was the French Kiss created? Check out the hot girls at www.anastasiadate.com?afid=15636 Follow me on TWITTER HERE http Join me on FACEBOOK HERE www.facebook.com Hello my dear students... "Loves French Kissing" Hmmmm... "Loves French Kissing." Wow.. all these girls love French kissing! I mean.... I love French kissing as well, don't you? But why do they call it French Kissing? Did the French invent it like they invented French Fries? "I would like some French Fries please" "Some what?" "French Fries" "What? Oh you mean Belgium fries!" Oh yeah, that's right, we learned that the French didn't invent French fries.. the Belgians did! OK.. then maybe the French Kiss was invented by the French like French Toast was! "I would like some French toast please" "Some what?" "Le French toast oui oui?" "What? Oh you mean the ancient Roman.." "What the heck is wrong with you? I just want to order your darn French food...." "Pardon my French" Well, at least they invented swearing... but did the French invent French kissing? HotForWords investigates French Kissing. "Does anyone want to help me investigate French kissing?" French kissing is defined by he Oxford English Dictionary as: 1. An act or instance of kissing a person on both cheeks, typically as a greeting. What? That's not French kissing.. I mean.. I know that all the Europeans kiss like that, but.. oh.. I see.. that was the original meaning back in the 1800s... now it means: 2. A kiss with contact between tongues. Yes ...

Right!? I'm so excited! Who's doing the lesson today? Yes. What? No, what's tomorrow, who is today. Gosh.. that was horrible! But, did you see what I did there? That was actually taken from an Abbot and Costello bit.. altered slightly to apply to me. That bit introduces us to "double entendre". Something that has two possible meanings. The expressions comes from the French phrase of the same spelling that came to English in the 17th century. The French phrase has updated since then and is now (pronounced doooblaa ontonteh) double entente while the English stayed the same as the old French. In any case, double entendres are among a larger family of plays on words known as puns, and many people who pride themselves on being "punny" have a ...

HotForWords - Defenestration all the way!!!!!
Follow me on TWITTER HERE twitter.com Join me on FACEBOOK HERE www.facebook.com www.hotforwords.com to request words. Let's look at the word defenestrate - defenestration. You want to have some more room on your computer defenestrate some files. You want to get rid of Windows on your Mac, defenestrate it. In computer speak, the word defenestrate means to clear something off your hard drive or off your screen, but what does the word actually mean? Something much more sinister. The word was coined in 1618 in Bohemia... When some Protestant nobles threw two Catholic governors out the 3rd story window of Prague Castle. Sending them over 30 meters down. The incident sparked the 30 years war. One of the worst wars in European history. I hear...Anyway, they referred to the act as defenestration. De,meaning out of in Latin, and fenestra which means window. If you're wondering what happened to the two governors, believe it or not, they survived. The Catholics claimed it was divine intervention from Angels. But the Protestants said they survived because they fell directly into a huge pile of manure. Gross. Anyhow, that's where the word defenestration comes from. From a couple of Bohemians who smell like manure. Hmmmm...sounds kind of like my boyfriends actually! Bye-bye my dear students, be good!
