Peter Jackson Responds To 'The Hobbit' Criticism

We reported last week that the footage of the hobbit revealed at cinemacon was not taken in too well by audiences. The reason? Well peter jacksons revolutionary 48 frames per second as opposed to the 24 frames per second that we are used to. Many claimed the flick looked like a quote, soap opera. Not exactly the feedback Jackson wanted..but he has responded... He said, "It does take you a while to get used to...Ten minutes is sort of marginal, it probably needed a little bit more. Another thing that I think is a factor is it's different to look at a bunch of clips and some were fast-cutting, montage-style clips. This is different experience than watching a character and story unfold." Jackson also explained the footage presented at Cinemacon would look different once it goes through the post-production process. He also added that "People haven't experienced it yet in the way it should be experienced." Despite the negative feedback, studio executives and producers at Cinemacon found many saying that 48 fps represents the wave of the future....so in other words we better get used to it people! The hobbit releases December 14 2012, so I guess we will just have to wait and see if Jackson is good on his word! So what do you guys think? Continuation of location shooting, now for THE HOBBIT: PART 2. New Zealand is as gorgeous as ever, even with her somewhat temperamental weather. We get to see more of the actors in action, in costume. A little bit of the life on set. And of course interviews from the cast and crew, including the normally elusive Martin Freeman, Mr. Bilbo Baggins himself. To be clear: I am NOT Peter Jackson. I don't make these videos! The very thought makes me laugh senslessly. I upload them as Peter Jackson sends them out, which he does every few months or so. I can't rush him; I have absolutely no control in the matter. Keep in mind too that you need to allow them time to film in between production diaries and to gather new material for there to even BE a new video worth watching! Critics react to the hobbits revolutionary 48 frames per second, and its not what you would expect! At cinemacon, Warner Bros debuted 10 minutes of footage of Peter Jackson'sThe Hobbit in the revolutionary new format of 48 frames per second. So what did they thing? Well one industry observer said this, "It was like seeing Live From The Met at IMAX. Kinda cold." Another three-time Oscar winner to be unnamed said, "I think we should let him finish it and see what it's like then, but it seems a little like the look of a soap opera". Still another media member thought it looked "extraordinary" but felt the high-defness of it all would deeply divide moviegoers, especially those who like the grain of film. ACcording to pete Hammond from deadline...he misses real film... so what I gather is, this is defintily going to be something we are going to have to get used to! viewers might get a chance to see it for themselves in July when a 48fps trailer is rumored to be hitting theaters (maybe with a certain masked superhero?) ...hmmm??? But I am still excited to see how everything turns out! But what about you guys? The Hobbit (2012): Main Theme from the Trailer (Suite)
This is a little suite I wrote based on Howard Shores new music for the Hobbit. It uses the new themes that can be heard in the trailer along with some well known themes from the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. There are also a few variations on some of them. I tried to catch some of the distinct Middle Earth sound as far as that is possible with samples. The music was created using East West Symphonic Orchestra, Vienna Symphonic Library Special Edition and Quantum Leap Goliath. I used Logic Pro as a sequencer. There are a few more themes from the Trilogy that will most likely be heard again in the Hobbit but I had not enough time to include in the suite, such as: - the Rivendell theme - the prominent "Rescue" (or "Nature") theme that appears in the Trilogy when the moth appears on weathertop, at the Last March of the Ents and before the attack of the Rohirrim at the Siege of Gondor, only to name a few scenes. - I could imagine that the "Bad Gollum" theme will be heard when Bilbo steals the Ring from Gollum. The theme can be heard being played by the zither when Gollum sneaks up to Frodo and Sam as they sleep in "The Two Towers". - also, the appearance of Galadriel promises some Lorien material. But what is even better than the prospect of hearing all those wonderful themes again is the prospect of hearing some new ones. I think the themes that are introduced in the trailer (and one of them ["Misty Mountains"] seems to be a major theme for the movie) are really wonderful and I ...

Will characters like Orlando Bloom's "Legolas" be seen the same way or will they be seen as younger versions of themselves in the actual Hobbit story? 0:22 - Martin Freeman left the set of 'The Hobbit' in New Zealand during filming in order to return to his role as "Doctor Watson" in the BBC show 'Sherlock'. Slow down there, folks, it's not what you think. The Hobbit is spawning a theater revolution frame by frame, and ClevverMovies will catch you up to speed. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Peter Jackson is seeking to improve how theaters project films by increasing the film projection speed to 48 frames per second. The standard has long been a projection speed of 24 frames per second, but with 3D at the height of popularity, an increased fps rate would improve the 3D movie-going experience by decreasing image jitters. The news comes with the anticipated arrival of The Hobbit in December, the first motion picture to be filmed at 48 frames per second. But Jackson hopes the changes will occur sometime in the summer to release a trailer. Why not show the improved image as a teaser before the movie, right? This will not be an easy task, however. Digital cinema theaters are not equipped for the updated technology, and many projector manufacturers are waiting to see how high studio and exhibitor demand will be. Hobbit Preview Footage, MIT's Version of Tetris - 04.25.12
First up, movie theater owners and a few lucky bloggers recently got to see ten minutes of footage from Peter Jackson's upcoming Hobbit adaptation at this year's CinemaCon in Vegas. The convention was an opportunity for Jackson to push his new 48 frame-per-second shots on theater owners, who would have to upgrade their projectors to screen the new Hobbit film. Jackson and fellow fantasy filmmaker James Cameron have been touting the new frame rate for several months. The only problem - the preview footage received some pretty mixed reviews. While many sweeping landscape shots were praised, all the performance footage was quickly condemned as having completely lost the cinematic feel. The fully functioning, colorful prank allowed a player to move, rotate and drop iconic Tetris pieces from a controller at ground level.
