Surviving the Holocaust: Hedy Hirsch's Story
Hedy Hirsch was fifteen when she secretly fled to Hungary with her mother. Her father had already been sent to Auschwitz and was never heard from again. Living in hiding for two years in Budapest, Hedy and her mother slept every night in a different abandoned building or cemetery. The two were arrested while attempting to cross back into Slovakia and were also sent to Auschwitz. Finding themselves constantly facing death, they were determined to stay together, no matter the cost. They were subjected to hard labor and sent on a death march, but they both survived and came to Israel in 1949. For more details, click here: www1.yadvashem.org

Tomasz Stankos smouldering Slavic soul music and grainy-toned trumpet finds a new context on Dark Eyes. Like his hero Miles Davis, the Polish jazz master also has an impressive record as talent scout and mentor, and his latest ensemble pools young players from the North of Europe. Tomasz has had strong connections to Finland in particular since the early 1970s when he was part of Edward Vesalas creative circle. Now he welcomes two prodigiously gifted Finns into his group, pianist Alexi Tuomarila and drummer Olavi Louhivuori, both expressive and imaginative players. On Dark Eyes, Jakob Bro, the young guitarist heard on ECM on Paul Motians Garden of Eden is cast most often in the role of subtle colourist, while fellow Dane Anders Christensen, on electric bass throughout, provides the bands throbbing pulse. The programme features new Stanko compositions, including The Dark Eyes of Martha Hirsch, inspired by an Oskar Kokoschka canvas, plus a new version of Last Song from Tomasz ECM debut Balladyna, as well as Dirge for Europe and Etiuda baletowa nr. 3 from the pen of Krzysztof Komeda. Das Argument des aktiven Tierschutzes wird von der Jägerschaft nur dafür verwendet, um ihre Lust am Töten irgendwie zu rechtfertigen. Wer tötet kann nicht schützen. Jägerlüge Nr. 2 "Wildtiere verursachen Schäden am Wald und an den Kulturflächen der Bauern" Jagd provoziert ganz im Gegenteil vielfach Wildschäden. Durch die Jagd werden die Tiere unnötig aufgescheucht, was ihren Nahrungsbedarf und damit die Fraßschäden oft weiter erhöht. Das verbreitete Argument, Wildtiere verursachten erhebliche Schäden, dient nur als Vorwand der Jäger, längere Jagdzeiten oder höhere Abschussquoten durchzusetzen. Oft sind die von Jägern verursachten Personen- und Sachschäden höher als der landwirtschaftliche Schaden durch Wildtiere (Quelle: Mathieu Roger, 1987). Wie das Standardwerk "Vom Widersinn der Jagd" des Zoologen Carlo Consiglio von der Universität Rom nachweist, sind Verbissschäden in den meisten Fällen minimal und betreffen meist deutlich weniger als 2% an Pflanzen bzw. des Holzertrages. Außerdem können Schonungen und Jungwaldanpflanzungen z. B. durch Schutzzäune oder Netze vor Verbiss geschützt werden.
