It's extremely difficult to visualize what is going on with the flow-fields of the weapon blasts during the time of firing. We planned and assembled several different assets including a high speed camera over a few months and then ran a test designed specifically to allow the viewer to observe the gas dynamics in great detail! Needless to say, this was a blast. Well, two blasts if you want to be technical about it (and we usually do). I performed an experiment to see what the differences were between semi-automatic pistols and revolvers. The advantage of shooting under water is that you can see the boundary of the gas flow fields almost perfectly.

Singapore: Fatal Ferrari 599 GTO High Speed Car Crash
SINGAPORE — A wealthy Chinese expatriate who crashed his million-dollar Ferrari into a taxi killing himself and two others has sparked outrage in Singapore, where anti-immigrant sentiment is on the rise. Websites were swamped Monday with postings attacking Chinese and other foreigners in the city-state after it was reported that a 52-year-old local cabbie had died of his injuries following Saturday's pre-dawn accident. The crash instantly killed the 31-year-old Ferrari driver, Ma Chi, while the taxi passenger, a 41-year-old Japanese woman, died in hospital two hours later, a police spokeswoman told AFP. Police gave no other details but local media said the Ferrari driver was a financial adviser from Sichuan who was applying for permanent residency and already living in a Singapore penthouse with his family. Disgruntled locals seized on the incident as another reason to attack the government's immigration policies and the presence of more than a million foreign workers and professionals in the crowded city-state. Foreigners are blamed for pushing up living costs, straining public transport and stealing jobs, with mainland Chinese bearing the brunt of attacks. The Straits Times newspaper said the Ferrari was a limited-edition model that Ma had bought for Sg$1.8 million ($1.43 million) for his 30th birthday last year. High Speed Explosions
A comparison of the fuel-air flame speeds in butane/air and hydrogen air mixtures. The mixtures in each case are near stoichiometry. Hydocarbons-air mixtures are typically what cars run on, just with octane-air rather than butane air. You can run rockets on liquid hydrocarbons/liquid oxygen, indeed the heavy lift section of the saturn V rocket ran on liquids oxygen (LOX) and kerosene (a moderately long chain hydrocarbon). While per unit volume of gasious combustion this actually produces more energy than the hydrogen-air mixture, the nature of that energy (spread over more molecules, with a lower temperature) means that its not a good a propellant as hydrogen-air. Hydrogen-air mixture have ferocious combustion speeds, over a vast composition range. As the energy of the reaction goes almost exclusively into the water molecules produces (which are very steam), it makes an excellent rocket propellant. Naturally most of the gas in these bottles is the nitrogen that makes up 4/5 of our atmosphere. If it were simply a H2/O2 mixture the explosion would be about 2-3x as big. Rockets run on liquidized fuel. As a rule of thumb, there is about a 1000 fold increase in density on liquefaction. This is the mixture the shuttle uses, and it uses some 4000 liters of it per second! That's the equivalent of burning some 4 million of these bottles per second! Shuttle Launch courtesy of Nasa. The Most Horrifying Moment Ferrari 599 Hits Taxi At High Speed, Singapore
This horrifying footage serves as a reminder of the deadly potential of one of the world's fastest sports cars. Three people died when a Ferrari 599 GTO ploughed into the side of a taxi while speeding across a city centre junction in Singapore. The Ferrari driver was killed instantly, while the cab driver and his passenger died a short time later. A passenger in the rare red supercar survived and was taken to hospital, as did a motorcyclist who was also involved. Police gave no official estimate as to how fast the Ferrari was moving, but the extremely high speed of the collision is plain to see from the video. Officers are investigating the crash but, as Motor Authority reports, witnesses claim 31-year-old businessman Ma Chi ran a red light before slamming into the blue taxi. The smash was captured by the dash camera of another car at the point where Rochor Road meets Victoria Street, said to be an accident blackspot in the centre of the southeast Asian city-state. A 20-year-old female passenger died in the taxi, with the Straits Times naming her driver as 52-year-old father of three Cheng Teck Hock. He suffered major brain injuries and died in intensive care at the Tan Tock Seng Hospital earlier this month.
