The film represents the work of dozens of both professional and amateur cinematographers and still-photographers. The film leaves the viewer with a positive feeling that the devastated area will someday be beautiful again during the course of the earth-shattering and earth-healing process.

Dave Crockett: Escaping from the 1980 St. Helens Eruption
News story about the 1980 eruption of Mt. St. Helens in Washington State, including original footage shot by Dave Crockett on the mountain, as he tries to escape from the eruption in progress. I remember being shown the original footage in grade school, in the mid-eighties in Portland, OR, not far from St. Helens. The version I remember was unedited, with fire in the sky. He started out filming from his car, but was hit by a small mudslide and continued on foot. I remember him running in the dark, panting in the ash, and saying over and over "This is hell on earth, this is hell on earth." He made it out safely.

We detoured off the Natchez Trace and headed for Tuscumbia, Alabama to see where Helen Keller was born in 1881. When Helen was 19 months old she contracted a serious fever, which may have been scarlet fever or meningitis. This left her deaf and blind. Unable to communicate, she became a difficult child. You can see the room she lived in and the famous pump where Annie Sullivan spelled out water in one hand while the cool water pored over Helens other hand. Helen explained, Suddenly I felt a misty consciousness as of something forgotten, a thrill of returning thought, and somehow the mystery of language was revealed to me.

Although also a very cute couple, they had their dark times, obsession, jealousy, self doubt.. it's all there. I chose his song to demonstrate Helens perspective towards the situation, as in she is trying to keep Nikki at a distance constantly, what these lyrics perhaps do not show is that Helen mostly does this to protect Nikki out of sheer love, but hopefully the video does show that. Bigfoot Sighting, 1924 Mount St. Helens Fred Beck Story, Gold Miner
Clip from an old docudrama film that was called 'Sasquatch'. Nothing ruins a wilderness trip like begin attacked by a band of menacing ape-men, but that's just what Fred Beck and four of fellow his gold miners claim happened to them on a prospecting job in Mount St. Helens in the summer of 1924. According to Beck, the men had just settled down to sleep for the night when they were awakened by an attack on their cabin. Someone — or something — was pounding the roof with rocks and trying to tear down their humble yet sturdy abode. Shocked, they grabbed their rifles and began shooting at the intruders. The fighting continued all night long, so the story goes, but none of the men were seriously hurt. By morning, an eerie quiet had entered the camp and as the men cautiously exited the cabin, they saw an ape-man in the distance. They shot at the beast several times and it finally fell over the cliff into the canyon. It was the only one of their attackers they would see. The men packed their belongings in a hurry — leaving most things behind — and made their way home, promising each other not to speak of the incident to anyone. Alas, the story was leaked and within a few weeks it was picked up by the local newspaper, which dubbed the beasts the "Ape-Men of Mount St. Helens."
