Produced by Harrison and former ELO member Jeff Lynne, the song was his third and last solo US number one, after "My Sweet Lord" in 1970 and "Give Me Love (Give Me Peace on Earth)" in 1973. It was also the last number one single, to date, by any of the solo Beatles in the United States. As Harrison's third post-Beatles #1 hit in the US, he broke a three-way tie among himself, John Lennon and Ringo Starr as ex-Beatles with two #1 solo singles, and moved Harrison into second place behind Paul McCartney's nine #1 songs. Of Harrison's three number one singles in the US, it was the only song not written by Harrison and the only one without religious overtones. The single's B-side is "Lay His Head", written by Harrison. The 12" version of the single also adds an extended version of "Got My Mind Set On You". Two music videos were released for the cover version. The first (directed by Gary Weis) starred a young Alexis Denisof vying for the heart of a girl in an arcade.[1] The second (also directed by Weis), is Harrison sitting and playing in a study. As the song progresses, furniture and knick-knacks (like a stuffed squirrel and mounted warthog) begin to dance along with the song. "All Things Must Pass" is a song written by George Harrison. It is the title track to his triple album of the same name. During The Beatles' Get Back sessions in January 1969, this was one of many songs the group rehearsed to be part of their new album. As the sessions progressed, the song was pushed to the side and never picked up again by the band. Harrison recorded a solo demo of the song on multi-track tape on 25 February 1969. Harrison recorded two takes, then added extra guitar onto the second. This version was subsequently released in 1996 on The Beatles' collection Anthology 3. The song was never formally recorded by The Beatles by the time of their break-up, though at least one informal rehearsal take featuring the full group exists. The song underwent a number of small changes from when it was first written in late 1968. The line "a mind can blow those clouds away" was originally written as the more literal "a wind can blow those clouds away," but bootlegs from the January 1969 Beatles sessions reveal John Lennon suggesting the change to "mind" to include a bit of "psychedelia" in the song. Perspective on one line was slightly changed from "It's not always been this grey" (with The Beatles) on the demo to "It's not always gonna be this grey" (on his own) on the final recording. In the two decades I've been in this business, the two athletes I have wanted to profile more than any other, were tennis legend Pete Sampras, and All-Pro football player, James Harrison. Why? Because they've been depicted as one dimensionally as any superstars I've ever seen. I was fortunate to have profiled Sampras several times during the five years I covered the US Open (1996-2000). Once he let you in (which wasn't easy), his guard dropped and he became quite human. The last time I interviewed Sampras was for 90-minutes on the day he retired from the sport. It was fascinating watching this man exhale and reflect. I admire people who work hard and don't court the media, so they will be liked, in order sell merchandize to the American public. I also admire people in the spotlight who aren't afraid to speak their mind. People like Jim Brown. The James Harrison I've hung out with is guarded (for good reason), thoughtful, informed, sensitive and has a GREAT sense of humor. This scene will not be in "The United States of Football," but gives you and better idea of this private man behind his public mask.
