Not surprisingly they both end up as criminals and alternately act as pickpockets, car thieves, burglars, robbers or pimps. Premiered in concert (at Lucerne in 2008) and on record by Patricia Kopatchinskaja, with whom the Turkish pianist forms one of todays most high-profile duos, the concerto refers to the famous collection of oriental stories. In the course of its four movements, situated at the interface between classical and oriental influences, 1001 Nights in the Harem creates a dreamlike atmosphere in which the virtuoso violin of Patricia Kopatchinskaja is joined in the scoring for full symphony orchestra by Turkish percussion instruments (kudüm, glockenspiel) as well as marimba, vibraphone, celesta, and harp. Patara, a quartet for soprano, piano, ney flute and percussion, was originally written as ballet music. It symbolises the rapprochement between East and West the piano represents western culture, the ney eastern culture, and the soprano the fusion of the two. Nastassja Kinski and Ben Kingsley are hard-put to bring life into this beautifully photographed but underscripted romantic drama. Diane (Kinski ) is a sophisticated trainee on the New York Stock Exchange who is suddently kidnapped and held captive in a North African desert hideaway by Selim (Kingsley), an Arab mogul. In an interesting role reversal, Diane has no qualms about bedding down an attractive man, but Selim's harem is purely decorative -- he does not share her cavalier view of sexual relationships. The twist is that Selim is not really that bad -- in spite of the fact that he has kidnapped the girl, he actually feels compelled to uphold a time-honored tradition that he doesn't really believe. Selim is a connoisseur who desires to embrace the ways of the Western world.

The whole musical has now been staged in a workshop version november 2010 in M-Lab in Amsterdam. Further development of the musical is still in progress. The musical is written and composed by Joost Laterveer and is about Ibrahim II, a young sultan of the Ottoman dynasty. ZEBRA Harem at the San Diego Zoo the best animals wildlife Stripes Zebras are black or dark animals with white stripes and their bellies have a large white blotch for camouflage purposes. Zebras are described as black with white stripes rather than the reverse for the following three reasons:[3] 1. White equids would not survive well in the African plains or forests. 2. The quagga, an extinct Plains zebra subspecies, had the zebra striping pattern in the front of the animal, but had a dark rump. 3. When the region between the pigmented bands becomes too wide, secondary stripes emerge, as if suppression was weakening. Some zoologists believe that the stripes act as a camouflage mechanism. This is accomplished in several ways. First, the vertical striping helps the zebra hide in grass. While seeming absurd at first glance considering that grass is neither white nor black, it is supposed to be effective against the zebra's main predator, the lion, which is color blind. Theoretically a zebra standing still in tall grass may not be noticed at all by a lion.
