Haiti Earthquake Documentary
Salem-News.com's Tim King reports: Two years ago, the infrastructure and human structure of Haiti was ripped apart and crushed without mercy by a monster earthquake that registered 7.0 on the Richter scale. The event ripped people apart from their loved ones, many of whom were lost and never found, and created scenarios where the piling up dead threatened disease and were burned en mass with little hesitation and no ceremony. Among the panic, pain, struggle and inevitable loss, there were shining moments of rescue; people from all over the world moved in to help and they worked long and hard days and nights to pull trapped people from the wreckage of buildings after a week or more. 30-minute documentary contains graphic footage

Haiti earthquake survivors scavenge for food
Additional police and troops are being sent to Haiti to bolster security amid relief efforts in the wake of last weeks deadly earthquake. For many earthquake victims, even six days after the disaster, the story is still one of frustration as aid is only slowly getting through. While at the airport the debate rages over the prioritising of military flights over civilian aid flights, in makeshift relief camps some earthquake victims are going hungry while others are fighting for food. Al Jazeera's Mike Kirsch reports on the situation from Port-au-Prince. (Jan 19, 09)

Haiti: 2 years after the earthquake
This is a moving report from Caroline Gluck for Oxfam from Haiti, returning to some of the places she visited two years ago. It is now two years since the most powerful earthquake in Haiti in 200 years struck the capital city of Port-au-Prince and the surrounding metropolitan area. In a matter of a few violent minutes the city was devastated. More than 220000 people were killed, 300000 were injured, and 1.5 million were made homeless. The earthquake was followed the same year by a cholera outbreak and then by Hurricane Thomas, making already severe conditions even worse. Oxfam has worked in Haiti for more than 30 years, not just in emergencies but also with communities and local organizations to find long-term solutions to the endemic poverty that people face each day. At the end of 2011 our focus has shifted from immediate humanitarian needs back to longer-term development. We are engaging with Haitian organizations to strengthen civil society, to help rebuild a new Haiti. More about Oxfam in Haiti www.oxfam.org

TOO MANY GONE TOO SOON (Haiti's Earthquake Poem)
This poem was written by Miguel "Mingolove" Romain in January of 2011 and it's a tribute to the victims of the 7.0 magnitude earthquake that hit Haiti (on January 12, 2010), causing about 250000 deaths and significant property damage. Here the lines of this poem is posted with the song "Memories of Days Gone by" playing in the background. TOO MANY GONE TOO SOON: Haiti's Earthquake Tribute (Poem by Miguel MINGOLOVE Romain) The capital was still wearing its January 1st dress The blithe atmosphere on the streets that afternoon Was a pure display of vibrant and exciting images Mixed with a familiar cacophony of sounds emanating from all horizons: Music blasting from an endless stream of colorful painted tap-taps With their crowded loads, Caressing the roadways at the pace of the city daily traffic jam; Countless numbers of ambulant merchants Wandering tirelessly alongside the streets Hawking their wares and goods. There was also the beautiful after-school spectacle With students wearing meaningfully their school colors Walking conceitedly and vivaciously Like a rainbow moving through the streets of Port-au-Prince The warm breeze of 4 PM was gently blowing, Carrying away the delicious odor of our Creole dishes The sun, sleepy and exhausted from its daily wanderlust, Was still watching with its bright and shiny silver eyes When, like a thunderbolt from a serene sky, Mother Nature unleashed its sudden fury On the most vulnerable part of my island, Swept many parts of my land ...

TodaysNetworkNews: HAITI EARTHQUAKE: TWO YEARS LATER (WORLD BANK)
MaximsNewsNetwork: (www.MaximsNews.com ) 31 January 2012 THE WORLD BANK: Washington, DC, Port-au-Prince, Haiti -- Two years after Haiti's destructive Earthquake The World Bank reports on reconstruction efforts following an international effort to rebuild more safely. Special maps were developed to direct efforts on exactly where is was safe to make new constructions. This multi-hazard assessment identifies where it is safe to build in the future and where the dangers from earthquakes, flooding and hurricanes make it too dangerous to rebuild. This Risk-Hazard analysis, funded by The World Bank and its partners is helping the reconstruction efforts while helping to help protect Haiti from future disasters. Hundreds of new engineers have been trained to use these Risk-Assessments to assess over 400000 homes and buildings prior to reconstruction. The country has collected all of its findings on disaster and risk analysis into one data base used by the engineers and public works efforts to protect Haiti's future with safe rebuilding practices for schools, roads, and homes. Haiti Earthquake: Chronicles of Inferno
The Republic of Haiti is a Caribbean country. It was the first independent nation in Latin America and the first black-led republic in the world. Despite these facts, Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. On January 12, 2010, a 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti and devastated the capital city of Port-au-Prince. Reportedly, more than 150000 people were killed and many buildings were destroyed and damaged in the quake. RT correspondent Aleksandr Luchaninov visited Haiti after the tragedy and here is his report.

Haiti earthquake aftermath
A powerful earthquake struck Haiti's capital on Tuesday with withering force, toppling everything from simple shacks to the ornate National Palace. The dead and injured lay in the streets even as strong aftershocks rippled through the impoverished Caribbean country. --Update 1/13/10-- The Haiti earthquake destroyed thousands of homes and the Haitian government is warning that "hundreds of thousands" could be dead. But death tolls are frequently inaccurate in the immediate aftermath of such disasters. A Haitian official at the United Nation's said on Wednesday that 100000 of his countrymen had died in the earthquake the struck near Port-au-Prince, the capital, late on Tuesday and Haitian Prime Minister Jean-Max Bellerive told CNN that he's worried the death toll could climb into the hundreds of thousands.
Haiti Earthquake Aftermath Montage
A week after the devastating earthquake hit Haiti, I was hired to shoot ENG footage for two international networks. This is a montage of personal footage I shot of the aftermath during my spare time, in and around Port au Prince. We were in Haiti for a total of 6 days in which 2 of those days were spent traveling to and from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Due to the situation on the ground, all the footage was shot in 2 days, under direct sunlight and a great deal of pressure. As demanding as it was, it taught me how to pick shots on the fly, and in "not so perfect" lighting or shooting conditions. In regards to equipment, we traveled very lightly as security and logistics were our main concerns at that time. Once again the Kessler Pocket Dolly proved to be an essential tool in capturing my images. Lenses used: Canon 16-35 f2.8 L-series Canon 70-200 f2.8 L-series Canon 24-70 f2.8 L-series Locations: Port au Prince, Leogane, Carrefour Producer: Susan Modaress Music: Eric Wollo wollo.com Editing/ Color grading: Khalid Mohtaseb
