Guillermo del Toro on THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME

RKO's biggest budget film to date remains one of the finest literary adaptations ever, and is arguably Charles Laughton's greatest screen role. His protege Maureen O'Hara never looked more stunning as the gypsy girl. Among the actors considered for Quasimodo were Orson Welles, Bela Lugosi, Claude Rains, Robert Morley and Lon Chaney Jr., whose father made an indelible impression in the earlier silent version. Cedrick Hardwicke is creepy in the villain role intended for Basil Rathbone, and Edmond O'Brien is almost unrecognizably young and svelte in his first movie. This was the only picture shown at the first Cannes Film Festival, which was canceled when Hitler invaded Poland.

Guillermo del Toro's "At the Mountains of Madness" Gets Axed

Twitter.com - Follow Us! Guillermo Del Toro has confirmed that "At the Mountains of Madness" is DOA -- hear why the studio pulled the plug up next! Hey Guys, I'm Chelsea Cannell and you're watching Clevver Movies! Bad news for Guillermo Del Toro, Looks like his passion project "at the mountains of Madness" won't be going through anytime soon. Word is Universal loved the project but got cold feet about going through with a massively budgeted R rated horror flick. Apparently the $150 million dollar project with Tom Cruise attached wasn't a sure enough thing, when it came to the box office draw, so the studio pulled the plug. Criterion reached out to Del Toro, who reported that the director validated the movies status and responding "it's dead!" Definitely a real bummer as the project seemed to be shaping up nicely but it looks like universal isn't in the business of gambling and to them, Mountains was just that -- a box office gamble. So Do you think it was? Would you have paid to see the Tom Cruise and Del Toro Madness? Hit up the comments and then check us out on twitter @clevvermovies for more updates from Hollywood. That's it for now, stay tuned... another update is around the corner!

Del Toro expressed being a huge fan by saying, "It's one of my three favorite Disney films. I would love to." He then speaks realistically by stating, "But I don't want to put too many hopes on it. They're probably on a fast track and I cannot take any more projects on a fast track." We know Del Toro fans have their fingers crossed, but in the meantime, they can look forward to "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" which will release August 26th. The Whale that swallows the puppet will actually be a giant dogfish and the incident will be one of many near death moments Pinocchio has. Guillermo del Toro on I CONFESS

Filmmaker Guillermo del Toro confesses his love for I CONFESS Compromised from the outset by the studio (they even replaced his leading lady Anita Bjork with Anne Baxter), this has never been considered one of Hitchcock's most effective films. However, Hitchcockian themes of Catholic guilt and his moody use of the Quebec locations still make it required viewing for his fans and it's full of impressive filmmaking. You can find more about this film at the IMDB: www.imdb.com And, as always, you can confess your love for all movies at www.trailersfromhell.com ABOUT GUILLERMO DEL TORO GUILLERMO DEL TORO says he has "a fetish for insects, clockwork, monsters, dark places, and unborn things." His breakout debut film, Cronos, began his long association with favorite actor Ron Perlman, who returned for Hellboy 2. His most revered monsters are Frankenstein's monster and the Creature from the Black Lagoon, neither of whom are Catholic. At the Mountains of Madness Movie Preview

Twitter.com - Follow Us! Are Guillermo del Toro and James Cameron really moving "Mountains?" We'll explain in just a moment. Hey guys, I'm Amanda Janner, and you're watching Clevver Movies. This one has three big reasons for horror buffs to get excited: Guillermo del Toro, James Cameron and HP Lovecraft. Del Toro has been pushing for an adaptation of HP Lovecraft's novella "At the Mountains of Madness" for some time now. And it looks like everything is finally falling into place. Del Toro's nightmarish imagery is a seamless match for the fear-inducing writing of the late horror author, and we can't wait to see Lovecraft's novella hit the big screen...especially with James Cameron producing. The film will be shot in 3-D for Universal Pictures, and we hear it was Cameron's involvement that helped green light the project. Lovecraft's original novella is about a group of explorers in the Arctic who find a lost civilization and wake up the city's horrific, world-eating inhabitants. The author is known for character-driven horror, taking the audience into the minds of his players, allowing us to witness how they spiral into madness. Lovecraft's dense writing has largely escaped big screen adaptations, which makes it all the more exciting that "Mountains" is getting its film debut. Del Toro directing, Cameron producing, and Lovecraft's original story...need we say more? As always, we're dying to know your thoughts, so leave us a line in the comments section below. And to stay up ...

HellBoy 2 - Doug Jones (puts his head between his legs)

In 2004, visionary writer/director GUILLERMO DEL TORO brought MIKE MIGNOLA's comic-book hero Hellboy (RON PERLMAN of Blade II, Alien: Resurrection) to the screen. The overly muscled occult detective, complete with horns, tail and hard-boiled attitude, was an everyman who'd become a favorite of fanboys around the world, including del Toro. Del Toro introduced the reluctant crimefighter to a global audience with the feature Hellboy, and his film's wit, action and ingenious practical effects launched a critical and commercial hit for comic lovers and general audiences alike. The filmmaker's epic odyssey continues with the action-thriller Hellboy II: The Golden Army, the feature follow- up to his 2006 triple Oscar®-winning masterpiece, Pan's Labyrinth. Bringing bigger muscle, badder weapons, multitudes of monsters and a little domestic conflict at home, our favorite kitten- loving red hero is back. And this time, he kicks even more evil ass. An aquatic empath who is almost 150 years old, the brilliant Abe Sapien has the psychogenic power to read objects and know their past or the future. The consummate gentleman, Abe's inordinate kindness is matched only by his passion for delectable, rotten eggs. The Ichthyo Sapien must use an Aqua-Lung to provide oxygen to his body when outside water and holds a very special place in his heart for the mysterious Princess Nuala who shares some of his gifts and his sense of justice. Death) was born on May 24, 1960, in Indianapolis, Indiana ...
