The Road To Guantanamo
The Road To Guantanamo is the story of four friends who set off from the Midlands in September 2001 for an innocent wedding and holiday in Pakistan. Two and a half years later, only three of them returned home. Through their epic journey we hear the story of their misunderstandings, ignorance, confusions and friendships as step by step they go from the safety of their small-town teenage existence to the heart of the "war on terror". Through a series of interviews, dramatised scenes and archive news footage, the film shows how the Tipton Three ended up in Afghanistan hiding with Taliban fighters under fire from US Fighter planes. The boys are eventually rounded up by American forces, only to be kept in horrific conditions at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba for over two years

Amnesty -- Unlock the truth about Guantánamo -- Interactive billboard
At Guantanamo, the US government sought to hold detainees in a place neither US nor international law applied. But no one can be held outside of the law. Guantanamo must be closed the right way: detainees must either be promptly charged and given fair trials in US federal courts, or be released. Illegal detention at other US facilities, including those in Afghanistan, must end. Take action and download free wallpapers at m.amnesty.se
Guantanamo detention centre is 10 years old
Wednesday marks 10 years since the US military opened its detention centre at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba. The camp was set up to hold detainees from the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq where the practice of holding prisoners indefinitely without charge has long been a source of controversy and international condemnation. Nadim Baba reports.

Inside Story Americas - A decade of Guantanamo
Despite repeated calls for closure, the detention centre is now a permanent fixture of US national security policy, at least for the foreseeable future. Should it remain open? Discussing this are guests: Morris Davis, James Carafano and Ramzi Kassem.
Guantanamo Bay -- Ten Years and still no end in sight
Despite repeated promises by President Obama to shut down Guantanamo Bay, it seems less and less likely to happen every day. And now that Obama signed the National Defense Authorization Act on December 31, which allows the military to indefinitely detain anyone presumed to be a terrorist, without charge or trial, it seems like there will be no choice to have GITMO a permanent fixture for the US.
Guantánamo Bay: A decade of damage to human rights
On 11 January 2002, in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks, the first detainees were transferred to the US naval base at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba. Since then, the detention facility there has made the world's news headlines for the shocking human rights concerns associated with it - including arbitrary detention, secret detention, torture and other ill-treatment, renditions, and unfair trials. Ten years on more than 150 detainees remain at Guantánamo Bay. The majority are in indefinite detention without charge or trial. Those who have been charged face unfair trial by military commission and some can face the death penalty if convicted. The government claims that even those found not guilty can be returned to indefinite detention. There has been essentially no accountability or redress for the human rights violations to which they and other detainees have been subjected. Human rights concerns in Guantánamo Bay remain an unfinished story. How long before the US government closes the book on Guantánamo and meets its human rights obligations? Sign the petition here: bit.ly We will deliver it to President Obama before his 2012 State of the Union address on 24 January.

DAVID MILLER - In Guantanamo Bay
Guantanamo naval base, "Gitmo", covers forty five square miles of Cuba inside an area under a controversial 'permanent lease' to the United States. Since 2002, the base has become synonymous with its detainment facilities for suspected terrorists. Although Barack Obama has given orders for the detention camp to be closed, the facilities remain open to this day. David Miller's quiet, powerful film is the result of three days the filmmaker spent touring the camps in May 2008 as part of a small group of media representatives allowed there. Although the event was presented as a chance to 'see inside' the working of Guantanamo, it was in fact a carefully staged PR exercise designed to yield predictable, stale, controlled media images. Indefinite detention Act voids US Constitution
Yesterday the US Congress voted to pass the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2012. The 86 to 13 vote will allow the indefinite detention and torture of American citizens at home and abroad without a trial. The NDAA gives more power to the military and government and President Obama at one point said would veto the bill but he has changed his mind. Jason Leopold, deputy managing editor for TruthOut.Org, joins us to discuss this Act. Follow Kristine on Twitter at twitter.com

Obama's broken promise - Guantanamo Bay
When Obama was running for president he made the American people a promise to close Guantanamo Bay. The detention prison has been open for 10 years and was originally opened by the Bush administration. In his first week as president, Obama signed a mandate to close the facility within 2010. Years later, however, Guantanamo Bay remains open and has over 200 detainees. Why hasn't President Obama fulfilled his promise to close the controversial detention center? Harold & Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay
HAROLD AND KUMAR ESCAPE FROM GUANTANAMO BAY marks the triumphant return of these two hilarious, slacker anti-heroes. The movie stars John Cho (AMERICAN PIE I & II, AMERICAN DREAMZ) as Harold and Kal Penn (VAN WILDER 2: THE RISE OF TAJ, EPIC MOVIE) as Kumar, two stoners who can't seem to get a break. Their last adventure found them traveling across country to find a White Castle hamburger in order to satisfy a weed- induced case of "the munchies." This time, the boys get themselves in trouble trying to sneak a bong onboard a flight to Amsterdam. Now, being suspected of terrorism, they are forced to run from the law and try to find a way to prove their innocence. What follows is an irreverent and epic journey of deep thoughts, deeper inhaling and a wild trip around the world that is as "un-PC" as it gets. MPAA Rating: R (c) MMVIII New Line Productions, Inc. Ten Years of Gitmo-Guantanamo
Ten Years of Guantanamo - Tabinda Naeem - Voice of America - January 11, 2012 marked the 10-year anniversary of the opening of the US prison at Guantánamo Bay. More than 50 human rights and religious organizations held a rally in Washington DC starting from the White House. The participants held a march through the Lafayette Park to the US Department of Justice, US Supreme Court and US Capital. They were also opposing the detention provisions in the 2012 National Defense Authorization Act which they say violate the basic human rights. British Author Andy Worthington talked to VOA Urdu at a different event of the New America Foundation a day before. He said that the Guantanamo prisoners will die in prison if something is not done soon to get them out of there. He said that he has set up a campaigning website called 'close Guantanamo' to encourage people to sign up, and to show President Obama and the US congress as to how many people care about these issues(INT). But many people in Washington, including the Congressman Jim Moran says that the new US laws and staunch political opposition is making it increasingly unlikely that "Gitmo" will close under President Obama.

En Guantanamo..wmv
Before the United States had any part in the story of the Bay, it had a direct impact on future events. In fact, when Christopher Columbus began his explorations that would one day lead to the establishment of the Americas, he made a stop on the island of Cuba. Even the, the bay was known as Guantanamo by the indigenous people of the island. At that time, it became obvious quite quickly that the bay would be an excellent starting point for trades leaving America and coming into the country. t is no surprise that the Spanish soon occupied the island and took control of the bay. Though it was briefly renamed, it has always been called Guantanamo Bay Cuba, as it is in the present day. Throughout history, the ideal location of the bay has lead to it being a part of skirmishes from different battles, culminating in the Spanish American War. It was after this war that the United States took control and established the Guantanamo Bay Cuba Naval Base in 1898. Following the Spanish-American War, the United States liberated the island and signed a treaty with the new republic. This treaty, made official in 1903, outlined many things to do with Cuban independence and America's role. In addition, it established that the United States would be allowed to lease the Guantanamo Bay Cuba for use as a naval base as well as a location for importing and exporting to the country. Gitmo Cuba The Naval base, which belongs to the United States, is located along the bay and is often referred to ...
