GREAT SALT LAKE Utah
Framed by the picturesque Wasatch and Uninta Mountains is one of the most unique lakes in the world, the Great Salt Lake in North America, that is located northwest of Salt Lake City in the state of Utah. The water has a high salt content and few creatures are able to survive within its waters. However, numerous rare species of water fowl can be found along its banks. Salt water shrimp and brine shrimp are the staple diet of the birdlife that inhabits the Great Salt Lake and it is only in the tributaries of the lake that fish are to be found. Due to the loss of its natural outflows, the Great Salt Lake lost its water by evaporation, thus creating its saltiness. The lake's four tributaries carried various minerals from the surrounding mountains into the lake and its salt content further increased. Depending on the water level, the salt content in some sections of the lake can reach up to twenty seven percent, only the Dead Sea contains more salt. The Great Salt Lake is a remarkable and unique lake and its origin and unusual beauty make it a true miracle of nature!

Antelope Island, Great Salt Lake
Antelope Island in the Great Salt Lake is about 15 miles long. It has bison, antelope, longhorn sheep, and drinkable water from springs. The bison are not fenced in and there are warning signs saying "Bison are dangerous." The Great Salt Lake is 75 miles long, 35 miles wide, and is salty because it doesn't drain. Brine shrimp are harvested as well as salt. There are no fish. The Fielding Garr Ranch was built on the island in 1848. The original building still stands. It was actively ranched until the 1980's and can be toured today. They do still have bison round ups.

2012 AMA 450 SUPERCROSS RD 16 SALT LAKE CITY HD
The 450 race at Salt Lake was absolutely insane this weekend. There were some heated battles, take outs, a new winner again and a race that went all the way down to the checkered flag. You will be surprised at who wins as you are watching and it will be (or at least I was) disappointing to some who didn't win. Looks like Dungey Millsaps and Brayton are going to take it all the way to Vegas for 2nd and 3rd in the championship. Every year I take a big motorcyle road trip. This year I toured the Southwestern United States looking for weird roadside attractions and oddities on my way to Ocean Beach for 10 days of surfing.
