Globalization

The world is becoming more and more interconnected. Globalization changes how people consume, work and live almost everywhere on the world. Today, many economic, political, cultural or ecological relationships are not explainable from a national perspective. At the same time, a controversial debate about the consequences of globalization has begun. But what are the main causes for globalization? In what areas it is most prominent? And who are the winners and looser of globalization? These are the questions this animated Video clip of the WissensWerte series deals with. WissensWerte is a project of the german non-profit organisation /e-politik.de/ eV (www.e-politik.de). It is realized by Jörn Barkemeyer and Jan Künzl (edeos- digital education http )

Globalization: What Does It Really Mean?

Globalization affects everyone in many ways. It affects the food we eat, the cars we drive, and the devices we use. Even though we are aware of globalization, what is it really? Other than knowing that globalization is in effect, how does it affect you? This is the point of our documentary. We went around Auburn University's campus asking different people of different age groups, races, and financial backgrounds about globalization. Our purpose was to see everyone's interpretation of globalization. We wanted to see the thread, if any, of similarity in everyone's answers.

Hidden Face of Globalization

PART II is now available on Youtube and at: (www.nlcnet.org/article.php?id=243) In the global economy, corporations demand enforceable laws - intellectual property and copyright laws - backed up by sanctions to protect their products. However, when we ask these same companies, "Can't we also protect the rights of the 16-year-old who made the product?," the companies respond: "No. That would be an impediment to free trade!" Young garment workers in Bangladesh share their experiences working for companies like Disney and Wal-Mart.

The Pro's and Con's of Globalization w/former World Bank Vice President Ian Goldin

Follow us @ twitter.com twitter.com Welcome to Capital Account. As US president Barack Obama talks about domestic solutions for high gas prices, in reality, this may be an issue of global energy depletion. This brings us to the issue of globalization, since we live in a global, interconnected society. Globalization has lead to much greater efficiency and output, and has built wealth overall, but it has also created more instability. One glaring example is financial markets. Capital now moves more freely from one country to another than it used to, and hot money flows have proven extraordinarily disruptive. We saw this in the case of the Asian Tigers and it has been a consistent bane for emerging market economies destabilized by capital flight. As we try to figure out how to deal with problems like this, while avoiding a financial crisis redux, we'll look at the underbelly of globalization for some answers and speak with former vice president of the World Bank, Ian Goldin. And developing nations will reportedly nominate two candidates to the world bank while the white house has until 6PM tomorrow to get it's nomination in...but will go on to be the President? A lot of people say it's no mystery, it will be an American. We'll talk about why and at what cost to the world bank's legitimacy as a global institution with the former vice president Ian Goldin. Meanwhile, you may have your I-phone, maybe your I-pad, what about an account at your I-bank? We'll about what apple is ...

Economics is Fun, Part 19: Globalization

Dr Madsen Pirie, President of the Adam Smith Institute, is attempting to prove that economics is fun. His new book, Economics Made Simple: How Money, Trade and Markets Really Work, is available from Amazon now in paper and Kindle formats: www.amazon.co.uk How do banks work? What does the City do? Why do prices rise or fall? Is competition wasteful? How can we create more wealth? What causes globalization and how does it affect people? This book answers these and other questions, not in the way that economics textbooks do - with graphs, abstract models, jargon-ridden theory, and mathematical equations - but through narrative and lucid explanation rooted in everyday experience and common-sense intuitions. This is a personal school of economics for anyone who has ever wanted to know how money, trade and markets really work. The study of economics has never been so enjoyable - or eye-opening.

Standard Globalization: Alex Jones Sunday Edition 1/3

Alex tackles the tragic early death of singer Whitney Houston, and exposes the reality that prescription drugs are posing a greater danger to society than illegals drugs and many other public ills. Also, plans to release GMO mosquitoes in Florida to combat native populations mark a new beginning of actively releasing dangerously under-tested new species into the wild-- with possible ramifications and consequences unknown. On the geo-political front, calls for the United Nations to put peacekeepers on the ground in Syria further escalate the possibilities for regional war, while Ron Paul supporters have cried foul over the Maine caucuses, where "official" results in the delegate-driven straw polls appeared to present Mitt Romney with a narrow win over Dr. Paul. John Perkins on Globalization

Volume 1 of 5 in the 'speaking freely' series. (52 minutes) For many years John Perkins claimed to have been working as something he defines to be like an "economic hit man in the world of international finance"; a function he performed by persuading Third World countries to take on large -scale public works projects. Today, we recognize that these types of projects, financed by the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF), have served to enrich US corporations while creating crippling debt for these countries, effectively turning them into American client states. Experiencing a change of heart, Perkins resigned from the business in 1981. After running a utility company, he founded the nonprofit organization, Dream Change Coalition (www.dreamchange.org), which works closely with Amazonian and other indigenous people to help preserve their environments and cultures. Take the time for a conversation with Perkins about globalization and inequality around the world. V Pradeep Kumar on Globalization

Globalization (or Globalisation) refers to the increasingly global relationships of culture, people, and economic activity. It is generally used to refer to economic globalization: the global distribution of the production of goods and services, through reduction of barriers to international trade such as tariffs, export fees, and import quotas and the reduction of restrictions on the movement of capital and on investment. Globalization may contribute to economic growth in developed and developing countries through increased specialization and the principle of comparative advantage. The term can also refer to the transnational circulation of ideas, languages, and popular culture. Critics of globalization allege that globalization's benefits have been overstated and its costs underestimated. Critics argue that it has decreased inter-cultural contact while increasing the possibility of international and intra-national conflict. en.wikipedia.org Contact V Pradeep Kumar : info@promaxintl.com or log on to www.vpradeepkumar.com Thanks for watching !

Police State International: The globalization of control

CONTINUE WATCHING: ur1.ca TRANSCRIPT AND SOURCES: www.corbettreport.com With the National Defense Authorization Act, the Enemy Expatriation Act, and other startling measures by the US government to crack down on their own population making headlines around the world at the moment, the idea of an American police state is becoming an all too familiar tale. Less examined, however, are the international aspects of this encroaching police state, a high-tech 21st century control grid which adheres to no national boundaries and whose influence is increasingly being felt in countries throughout the so-called "free world." Just as the tracking, surveillance, pain-compliance and database technology behind this control grid is manufactured and marketed by multinational corporations who profess no loyalty to any nation state, so too is the police state itself nothing more than an idea for the consolidation and leveraging of power in the hands of a select few at the apex of business, government and finance. This idea in turn can be marketed, adapted and adopted from nation to nation, and that is the exact process that has been developing for decades now. This is our EyeOpener Report by James Corbett, presenting the internationalization of the police state through the increasingly sophisticated technological control grid, and the collusion of international corporations and institutions to implement a homogenous and interconnected system for tracking, tracing and controlling the ...

They liked his vision so much, they ended their 400 page, 4-color book with it (WW Norton). Judith mixed it with some street noise and the accordion of Yuri Lemeshev, also from Gogol Bordello, and made it the last cut on the Crossing the BLVD CD. Energy & Transport Globalization Initiative

The Energy & Transport programme is a globalization initiative under the Nordic Council of Ministers. This short film presents the programme. The main activity of the programme is to fund sustainable transportation projects that look into business development, technical aspects and framework conditions. All projects have partners from at least three Nordic countries, and are therefore prime examples of Nordic collaboration. Most of the partners are industrial partners, which ensures the commercialization potential of the developed solutions. The programme aims to strengthen the knowledge about sustainable transport solutions within the region and to strengthen the region's global position, as important steps to reducing the total CO2 emissions from the transport sector. Globalisation is Good - Johan Norberg on Globalisation(full video)

The world is an unequal and unjust place, in which some are born into wealth and some into hunger and misery. To explore why, in this controversial Channel Four documentary the young Swedish writer Johan Norberg takes the viewers on a journey to Taiwan, Vietnam, Kenya and Brussels to see the impact of globalisation, and the consequences of its absence. It makes the case that the problem in the world is not too much capitalism, globalisation and multinationals, but too little. the last farmer. neoliberism, globalization and small farmers agriculture. by giuliano girelli

www.thelastfarmer.org the last farmer a documentary by Giuliano Girelli. The agriculture of farmers produces food for 70% of the planet's population, whereas industrial agriculture covers no more than 30% of it. Nonetheless 2.8 million people in the world live on less than 2 dollars a day. Most of these people are farmers or ex-farmers who now live in shanty towns of one of the big cities of the world. This documentary is about them, about globalization and therefore also about us. The Last Farmer explores the dramatic consequences of neoliberism and of globalization on the lives of small farmers in the world and follows the unfolding of a day's events for Baldomera in Guatemala, Agi in Indonesia and Aloise in Burkina Faso. It includes interviews with Luciano Gallino, Hira Jhamtani, Giorgio Cingolani, Magaly Rey Rosa, Mamadou Goita and Roberto Schellino. Director's notes: While I was in Indonesia carrying out a first round of research on the small agriculture in Asia, I met Agi, a farmer from the island of Bali. It was in fact by spending a few days with him and his family with the purpose of doing some first shots that I realised that also our documentary should be built according to the criteria of being coherent with the subject we were treating. Because of this, rather than travelling around the world myself to gather other stories about small farmers, I decided to contact some friends of mine who are documentarians in Guatemala and Burkina Faso, so that they could be ...

Jerry Harris: Globalization of Capitalism

Jerry Harris, Devry professor, author of The Dialectics of Globalization, explains the growing globalization of transnational capitalism replacing national sovereignty, at the Brecht Forum, November 14, 2008 Co-sponsor: Science & Society The Political Economy of Globalization US Hegemony or Transnational Capital? Jerry Harris Is globalization a project of US imperialism or an emerging transnational capitalist class? Harris will argue that while nationalism still plays a strong role in world affairs, particularly in the form of the US military/industrial complex, economic hegemony is now in the hands of transnational capital. The central historical process at work is the conflict between a descending form of capitalist accumulation based on national markets and the nation state and an ascending model of accumulation based on the transnationalization of finance and production. The contradiction between nationalism and globalization cuts across traditional party lines as the capitalist class struggles to develop a political project that can manage their growing crisis. Jerry Harris is a professor of history at DeVry University, Chicago and author of The Dialectics of Globalization, Political and Economic Conflict in a Transnational World. He is national secretary of the Global Studies Association and his articles are often featured in Science & Society, Race and Class and Das Argument. Professor Harris has spoken widely on globalization including lectures in London, Prague ...
