Upper Deck's 2010 NHLPA Glengarry Glen Ross Rookie Showcase Boot Camp
At this month's NHLPA Rookie Showcase in Etobicoke, Ontario, 23 of the league's newest players converged on the MasterCard Centre in Toronto to pose for their very first NHL-licensed Upper Deck hockey cards. In order to whip the players into shape, Upper Deck brass took them through its own version of NHL Rookie Boot Camp. Watch as Upper Deck's Terry Melia, channeling Alec Baldwin's role in the 1992 film "Glengarry Glen Ross," explains the importance of signing autographs to four of the league's latest recruits: Mats Zuccarello-Aasen and Ryan McDonagh (NY Rangers); Calvin de Haan (NY Islanders); and Joe Colborne (Boston Bruins). Look for rookie cards of these players first appearing in Upper Deck's 2010-11 Series 1 Hockey product, which launches in November.

HILOTRONS - The Man From Glengarry
HILOTRONS perform a live scored soundtrack to the 1922 silent film "The Man from Glengarry" on February 25, 2012 at Neat Coffeeshop in Burnstown, ON. Sadly only one reel of the original 6 from this film has survived through the decades, the others badly water damaged. It is reel 3 that is seen here...with some water damage on the front and back end of the reel. "The Man from Glengarry is set at the St. Clair lumber camp run by Big 'Mac' Macdonald (Anders Randolph), a hard-fighting Scotsman whose dogmatic religious beliefs are guided by Reverend Alexander Murray (Harlan E. Knight). Mac's authority is challenged by Louis Lenoir (EL Fernandez), a godless renegade French-Canadian who runs a rival lumber camp in Glengarry County. When Lenoir ultimately kills Mac in a bar room brawl, his son Ranald (Warner P. Richmond) initiates a blood feud to avenge his father's death. Though he initially refrains from direct confrontation with Lenoir at the pleadings of his sweetheart, Kate Murray (Marion Swayne), Ranald is eventually provoked into a gang fight between the rival camps that erupts on the log slides on the river. The climactic duel between Ranald and Lenoir is suddenly interrupted by Kate, who attempts to stop their struggle but ends up slipping between the grinding logs and is swept away towards the torrential rapids down river. A bleak dramatic comedy, Glengarry Glen Ross follows the lives of four smalltime, cutthroat real estate salesmen grinding out a living by pushing overpriced, undesirable plots of land on reluctant buyers in a never-ending scramble for their share of the American dream. Company big wigs Mitch and Murray declare a month-long 'sales contest'. The top salesman wins a new Cadillac and the bottom two men lose it all—egos, money and their jobs. The four salesmen sweet-talk, plan, and scheme for the perfect client and the hot 'Glengarry' leads, which Mitch and Murray make clear are for 'closers' only. How far will the four go to get to the leads in order to schedule a 'sit' at the perfect victim's residence? Glengarry is partly informed by the playwright's experiences working in a male-dominated Chicago real estate office in the late 1960s and contains the playwright's trademark staccato and rough language. Many prestigious awards and a 1992 film adaptation by Mamet solidified Glengarry's place as one of the great masterpieces of 20th century drama. Many feel Glengarry is Mamet at his best—writing with brute force—and may be more pertinent now as when it originally opened. This production contains very mature themes and strong language.

Scotland the Brave - Glengarry Highland Games 2011 Maxville
Over 2K participants performed "Scotland the Brave" in Maxville, ON. Massed band, pipers and drummers. The Glengarry Highland Games held each year in Maxville is the largest Scottish gathering outside of Scotland. The video is shot by my sister on a small flipcam.
