Canada geese take to the skies along their annual migration paths.

Canadian Geese in an argument with off camera geese. Watch them react to the sound of the off camera geese. They converse quietly by themselves, and then respond loudly to the other geese. If this isn't intelligent conversation, I don't know what is. I think they are saying, "Down with Vista!"

Geese Surf Glenwood Wave @ 25500 cfs!! (Original)

This is the original video of the infamous surfing geese. I was filming some kayakers surfing at the Glenwood Springs Whitewater Park when I saw this group of geese floating toward the wave. Their technique is actually pretty good; beginning surfers could learn a lot. This was taken 6/7/11 at a 27-year high flow of 25500 cfs. Since so many have expressed concern over the geese, it seemed to me like they were all okay when they washed out at the bottom. Every Autumn around 50000 Barnacle and other Geese arrive from Greenland on the Scottish Isle of Islay. The Geese usually arrive at Loch Gruinart before they spread over the island in search for good grassland to graze on. This is one of my favorite songs from Maddy Prior's 1978 solo album, "Woman In The Wings". The project not only had the distinction of featuring members of Jethro Tull as studio musicians, it was also supervised by Tull frontman, Ian Anderson. Ian, along with Martin Barre, John Glascock, Barriemore Barlow & David Palmer were each featured on individual tracks, evidently not wishing to have Maddy's album sound as if Tull had assembled as her back-up band. Even Ian's wife, Shona, sang backing vocals on one song, and the entire production was engineered by long-time Tull recording tech wizard, Robin Black. A view from the traffic management center! Each day, our traffic engineers monitor traffic through the 440 cameras perched high above Puget Sound roadways. They look for collisions, disabled vehicles, dangerous litter (like bumpers or hubcaps) that could cause collisions or other problems. They also watch traffic flow to determine when to activate systems like Smarter Highways on I-90: www.wsdot.wa.gov Well, it was during a routine traffic check on I-90 when they found Mother Goose and her five goslings booking down the shoulder of I-90. Washington State Patrol spotted them too and herded (herded? guided?) them off at the next exit. Not only do we want them to make it through spring, but we also want to make sure they don't wander in front of your car. Can you imagine how bad you'd feel if you hit one? Enjoy!

Which is great, because sheep are herd animals and like having others of their kind around. She's a Shetland Sheep and looks a little different from my baby. They stay together in the mud room with a dog gate to keep them in, because they're too small to be outside on their own. The goslings are put to bed with them for the same reason. The lambs are really interested in them and would probably cozy up along side them if they could. What Can We Learn From Geese?

This is a video I put together for one of our elementary school chapels this year. Our running theme has been "Tales from the Ark" and all of our Bible lessons have been taught through the story of Noah's Ark. In our first skit, the main character was a very arrogant peacock who had a lot to learn about working with others. He got some help from a few geese and penguins who were also aboard the ark. In making the video, I used a lot of ideas from others I had seen, but reworded some parts in more "kid-friendly" terms.
