FULL TEXT Vertical Gardening Part 1 As urban gardeners, we have a limited amount of space to grow our vegetables and flowers. What I have done is I have employed verticle gardening. Right here as you can see, I have a variety of different cucumber plants. Now, a cucumber is vining crop, which means that with vertical support like this one, you can train it to grow up and the fruit, Take a look right here, can grow perfectly fine on the vine. Different types of crops that work well in a vertical garden are watermelon and pumpkin. Let us go take a look. Here, as you can see, my pumpkin plants are thriving. Pumpkin plants are also vining crops. Now, in the country, where you have a lot of space, you can just let this grow along the ground, but here in a city environment, we do not have all that space. So, what I have done here is, I put together a dog kennel. This is actually really nifty. It is exactly 4 x 4 so it fits perfectly in your raise beds. And, these vines just slough on themselves eventually. You do not have to continuously train them. Okay, so you can go vining crops on vertical supports, but there are other types of plants that also need support like my ...

Texas Organic Gardening

This was back in April 2011. Super excited about growing our own food. The weeds that I pointed out and said were Dandelion greens apparently were not, because those grew to be about 6 feet tall. Yeah... I didn't know any better so I just kept juicing them. They gave me a super buzz. I still don't know what they were, though. LOL.

F27 Seed Exchange and Guerrilla Gardening

February 27, 2012: As part of the National Day of Action to Occupy Our Food Supply, Occupy Wall Street organized several actions including a Seed Exchange and a Seed Bombing of vacant lots, drawing attention to the threats posed by big agribusiness and celebrating the free exchange and planting of natural, unmodified crop seeds. Three days earlier, organic farmers seeking protection from GMO contamination of their crops lost a battle when Judge Naomi Buchwald of the Federal District Court in Manhattan dismissed the class-action suit Organic Seed Growers and Trade Association (OSGATA) et al v. Monsanto. Representatives of Food Democracy Now came to the Seed Exchange and gave an emotionally charged account of the case, and their ongoing fight to safeguard the genetic purity of crops. In the afternoon, members of Time's Up! and the New York Bicycling Coalition led a bike ride that toured community gardens of the Lower East Side and made a stab at beginning new ones by seed-bombing vacant lots. Greenhouse 200 Dollar DIY Homemade Solar Gardening towards Self Sufficiency Do It Yourself Organic

Hello all! Here is my homemade greenhouse. Only took me about a day to construct once I gathered all materials. To do this even cheaper, you could skip the wood on the ends, and just cover it in plastic or use pallets that you can many times get for free. You could also forgo the metal frames, and use 1" PVC that would make it lighter and more mobile. All I have left to install is an internal heat source, which will be a wood fired rocket stove that uses 1/3 the amount of fuel as a typical stove. To preserve the wood I used propylene glycol ( Pink RV Antifreeze that you can drink ) In the video you can also see my worm bins & temporary chicken coop. I hope to grow majority of my own food. It is healthier and cheaper. The food will have no pesticides or preservatives; organic. I can also eat it fresh, meaning the day its picked vs weeks or months old (supermarket). Fresh food has more life energy. This is just another piece in the puzzle on the road to self sufficiency. Thanks for watching and please comment!

Starter Guide to Container Gardening

Creating a container garden for plants, flowers, and vegetables is easier than you think!

Quick & Easy Gardening Transplant Pot (T-Cup) DIY

This is something I experimented with over the winter. It makes it very easy to transplant plants into the garden or a larger container once the plant reaches a size where it is time to move to a larger growing area. It saves time and energy come transplant time. I'm calling it the T-Cup for lack of a better name LOL Other advantages of using this method is that you can easily check to see if the plant is rootbound and you can water from the bottom which saves on water consumption, reduces evaporation and put the water directly at the root level! It's a great container to start plants like tomatoes, peppers, beans, cucumber, squash, basil, oregano, chives, dill, thyme, cilantro and sage. You can even grow or even regrow onions in it!
