Salmon Country by Doug Underhill and André Gallant
Salmon Country: New Brunswick's Great Angling Rivers by Doug Underhill and André Gallant $45.00 Hardcover Goose Lane Editions "We are ready. The first cast: a glinting silver arc over the head of the pool, fly snapping gently as it drops to the surface and is grabbed by current." — Doug Underhill In a stunning combination of superb colour images and lively personal essays, Salmon Country takes us on an excursion along New Brunswick's famous salmon rivers. Marrying the words of Doug Underhill and the photographs of André Gallant, Salmon Country explores the people, the rivers, the traditions, history, and mythology of this sport of sports. And there's drama around every bend in the river. Underhill tells of becoming one with the river, of treading deep pools, of wading shallow rapids and gravely shoals in search of the king of fish. Gallant shows the splashy thrill of the catch, breathtaking treecanopied rivers, and the people who make the experience memorable. Written with keen observation, wit, and verve, Salmon Country brings to life a world centred on fly-fishing and pays tribute to all who share the joy of fishing the Miramichi, Restigouche, Nepisguit, Cains, and Saint John rivers. www.gooselane.com Video by Lindsay Maynard

The Jackets green 0001
Irish song The Jackets Green When I was a maiden fair and young, On the pleasant banks of Lee, No bird that in the greenwood sung, Was half so blithe and free. My heart ne'er beat with flying feet, No love sang me his queen, Till down the glen rode Sarsfield's men, And they wore the jackets green. Young Donal sat on his gallant grey Like a king on a royal seat, And my heart leaped out on his regal way To worship at his feet. O Love, had you come in those colours dressed, And wooed with a soldier's mein I'd have laid my head on your throbbing breast For the sake of your jacket green. No hoarded wealth did my love own, Save the good sword that he bore; But I loved him for himself alone And the colour bright he wore. For had he come in England's red To make me England's queen, I'd rove the high green hills instead For the sake of the Irish green. When William stormed with shot and shell At the walls of Garryowen, In the breach of death my Donal fell, And he sleeps near the Treaty Stone. That breach the foeman never crossed While he swung his broadsword keen; But I do not weep my darling lost, For he fell in his jacket green. When Sarsfield sailed away I wept As I heard the wild ochone. I felt, then dead as the men who slept 'Neath the fields of Garryowen. White Ireland held my Donal blessed, No wild sea rolled between, Till I would fold him to my breast All robed in his Irish green. My soul has sobbed like waves of woe, That sad o'er tombstones break, For I buried my heart ...

"I could get people to stray into me, make a world with their own hands.")) Lorna Freaks Out to Kevin Before the Party at the Paradise
Kevin goes to see Lorna at her apartment, interrupting her as she's looking at a taped-together Polaroid of Felicia and Lucas (the one she found on the ground outside Dean's trailer the night of the 4th of July concert that wasn't). Lorna is all worked up about going public with the fact that she is Felicia Gallant's daughter. Rachel is writing an article, there's going to be a press release about it, and Felicia is having an open house at Paradise to announce that Lorna is her daughter. Kevin wonders why Lorna is so worried. Lorna says that she doesn't do parties that are about her--she brokers deals and makes contacts at parties, but she is not now, nor does she ever want to be, the main course. Kevin thinks it's great that Lorna is going home to her family, and tells her that she's just telling people who she is and that she'll probably be surprised at people's reactions. Lorna then freaks out, asking Kevin what Felicia's fans are going to do when they find out about Lorna's relationship with Carl Hutchins and the pictures he has of Lorna, or what Lorna was thinking when she ruined Jenna, or how she forgot to tell Dean and Matt about Rick Madison and Sunburst Records? And what are Felicia and her high-and-mighty, respectable friends going to do if a few black-and-whites come into the party in the middle of Lorna's coming out? Kevin says that's not going to happen. Lorna counters that she's not going to walk into that place like everything's peachy keen. Kevin says she ...

Beatrice arrives quite literally "love-sick", but before she can be teased any further, the girls are called away to meet with the gallant gentlemen. Cuiviénen
A song inspired by the Awakening of the Elves. Sung from the perspective of Finwë himself, perhaps. I lay upon the yet untrodden grass, I breathed, I slept. I felt a West-wind whisp'ring from afar. I drank the thunder of the waters' voice, I dreamed, I wept. I stilled my tears, awoke, and lo, a star. It shone upon the leaves in silver beams as tongues of flame, Its embers tasting yet untasted life: Step-dancing in a new-awakened land without a name That yet knew neither amity nor strife. It seemed the night was young and all the glade was in the gloam, The sky serenely strewn with stellar kings Adorned in gallant glitt'ring crowns which rayed as they did roam In exile from their lands on shining wings. I gazed in awe upon the vault of heaven's nightly shield: Sublimity too fair for mortal eyes. Unfathomed beauty must my keen Creator deftly wield The firmament to set so on the skies.
The Grocer by Ewan McColl - Margaret Thatcher "tribute"
The Grocer (Ewan MacColl) [tune "The Garden Where the Praties Grow"] Come all you argumentative sods who like to chew the rag, Who stand at the bar hour after hour on a beery talking jag; Sit down and rest your feet awhile and give your mouths a rest, And I'll tell you about the dame they call the "Guardian of the West." Her hair was the best that money could buy, her eyes were china blue; I swear they wouldn't look out of place on a frozen cockatoo. She'd a nose like the blade of a metal saw, a voice like a tungsten drill, She used it to bore the natives when she'd a couple of hours to kill. When she was a puking babe in arms, she read in a magazine About the royals and decided then she'd like to be the Queen; But the job had already been taken, so she stamped her foot and said, "If I can't be the Queen or the Prince of Wales, I'll he the PM instead." And so she moved from NW4 to a pad in Downing Street, A well-found joint where she and a hunch of deadbeats used to meet; And they'd all dance round the table, then have a cosy chat; And in between she'd practice her elocution on the cat. The lady often said she'd like to have lived in the Golden Age, Before the days of the unions and the National Minimum Wage; And she sighed when she thought how Hitler had smashed them all to hell; "What he could do I can do better," she said, "and probably twice as well." And so she set out on the job of castrating them one by one, All except the ETU and that had already been done ...
A (Whore) in Sunday_School. - 1
Enjoooooy! (Hint: Look at the bottom left of the video to see what "story" he's writing!) ------------------------------------------------------------- A heat wave hit Peachtree City, Georgia in 1953. It wasn't an ordinary heat wave; the townspeople walked with struggling, wobbling legs, the mind slightly delirious. A drought had overcome the city, no doubt; the fields were dry and cracked, plants were shriveling, and the people were asked not to use a specific amount of water from the hose each day. The only place in Peachtree City that was brightly colored, with healthy green grasses and running water, was Pastor Franco's estate. The Franco estate was predominately the largest house in Peachtree City; all the residents that drove past knew this just by glancing unconsciously in the direction of the house. There were acres and acres of land (occupied by peach orchards, ran by Pastor Franco's parents) and fields for the farm animals in the barns to graze; the driveway was horseshoe-shaped; there were at least thirty to thirty-five rooms in the entire house. If that didn't say enough in 1953 Georgia, then no one in Peachtree City knew what did. There was no doubt in anyone's righteous mind that the three Franco brothers—James, Tom, and Dave—were sheltered, wealthy boys. They were the apples (or peaches) to Mrs. Franco's chestnut eyes. From what the old ladies simpered about through tea and knitting sessions, the three boys were well-educated, cool-tempered, patient ...
