This film is nothing less than a masterpiece. It is a highly structured and stylized film about a serial killer. It created the serial kill genre, which includes such entries as Psycho and Silence of the Lambs. Alfred Hitchcock (the director of Psycho) was a disciple of Lang as were Jacques Tourneur (The Leopard Man (1943)) and Michael Powell (Peeping Tom (1960)). M was not only the originator of the genre, but arguably remains it preeminent entry. Highly recommended for those in the mood for a Hitchcockian-style thriller with a great performance by Peter Lorre and great story-telling technique by Fritz Lang
Fritz Kreisler plays Thaïs-Meditation
Here is Fritz Kreisler (1875-1962) playing his arrangement of the Meditation from Thaïs by Jules Massenet (1842-1912). The piece was originally scored for solo violin and orchestra as part of an entr'acte in the second act of Massenet's 1894 opera Thaïs. Since then, it has been arranged for a variety of instrumentations and ensembles. This recording was made in RCA Victor's studios in Camden, New Jersey in late 1928. Kreisler's usual American accompanist, Carl Lamson, is at the piano.

(Rare!) Fritz Kreisler's 80th Birthday Interview (Part 1) (1955-02-02)
Quite a rare material. Fritz Kreisler is interviewed by Abraham Chasens, the musical manager of WQXR Radio station, on his 80th birthday, February 2nd, 1955. This was special tribute program broadcasted on that day. And as far as I know, this is the only recording of Kreisler's voice which was commercially available. (except for few other radio transcriptions and newsreel soundtracks). Before the interview, we can hear "transcribed greetings" of his collegues, Mischa Elman, Yehudi Menuhin, Nathan Milstein, Erica Morini, Joseph Szigeti, Ruggiero Ricci, Isaac Stern. While the actual interview recordings are playing, you can see the photos of Kreisler and cellist Pablo Casals' having conversation in 1958 (Courtesy of the LIFE magazine)

Launch sequence from Fritz Lang's underrated science fiction classic "Woman In The Moon" (Frau Im Mond) from 1929 (AKA "rocket to the moon"). Featuring the talents of Willy Fritsch, Gerda Maurus,Fritz Rasp, and Klaus Pohl. It should be noted that during the third reich, which happened a few years after the movie was made, the nazis had the models destroyed and the film withdrawn from release. They considered the rocket to be too close to reality. It was after all, designed by none other than Hermann Oberth, one of the fathers of rocketry and astronautics, who was also Wernher Von Braun's teacher, boss and collaborator. A lot of contemporary science went into the making of Woman In The Moon. It shows the very first ever countdown to launch of a rocket. An idea invented as a dramatic device for the movie, but later adopted in real life. Also depicted for the first time are the use of liquid rocket fuel, a rocket with two stages, and zero gravity in space. Of course, there were also bad calls, like the submerged launch and the moon atmosphere. Woman in the moon was the first "serious" science fiction film.

Fritz Perls demonstrates Gestalt Therapy with his patient Gloria. I was shown this on an intermediate counselling course about twelve years ago and was amused that the group and its tutor were unable to learn from Fritz because of their devotion to political correctness. Fritz's smoking and direct challenging of Gloria's self defeating belief systems were viewed in the group as evidence that he didn't know what he was doing. They preferred the approach of Carl Rogers because he was polite and inoffensive even though Gloria told Rogers that he wasn't helping her despite being a very likeable man. She ended the Rogers session with a frown, but despite all the confrontation with Perls she ends with a smile. This vid has good rewatch value. Perls' language patterns, roleplays and bouts of uncompromising honesty are worthy of study.
