The Grand Canyon: How It Formed
Erosive forces continue to shape the Grand Canyon today, millions of years after it began to form. Normal channel erosion alone, however, cannot explain the many kilometers that separate its rims. The strongest explanation holds that the major factor in the widening of the canyon has been activity from tributary drainage systems -- the side streams, rivulets, and gullies outside the main river channel. The greatest erosive force in these tributaries is the fast-moving landslide called a debris flow.

How The Universe Was Formed
About a half a million years after the big bang, the cosmos began to cool, as it cooled, the hot subatomic particles that constituted the early universe began to slow down and stop colliding with each other long enough so that protons, neutrons and electrons could form. The universe cooled further and the hot particles slowed further still allowing these particles to stay together long enough to create atoms. The universe was nothing but a cloud of hydrogen and helium. Slowly, the universe continued to cool and structure begins to present itself within this universal cloud. From small disturbances woven into spacetime the galaxies begin to collect, tiny variations in the primordial universe became the web that collected galaxies and gave the cosmos its form. These galaxies become distributed along these structures, dancing within their gravitational fields, forming giant tendrils reaching out across the span of eternity. Until just a few short decades ago, astronomers thought the universe was static and unchanging, we didn't even know there were other galaxies until the 20th century. The heavens was a place of constancy and uniformity, the stars and planets were always there and they always would be - steady and unchanging. Instead we have learned that the cosmos is a seething cauldron of activity, as alive and vibrant as any one of us. The Cosmic Web, or: What does the universe look like at a VERY large scale?
The Millennium Simulation featured in this clip was run in 2005 by the Virgo Consortium, an international group of astrophysicists from Germany, the United Kingdom, Canada, Japan and the United States. A virtual cube of 2 billion light years on a side was "filled" with 10 billion "particles" whose evolution was computed using the physical laws expected to hold in the currently known cosmologies. The initial distribution of matter, that resembled the conditions present when the cosmic microwave background radiation was emitted (about 379000 years after the universe began) was allowed to evolve, and the formation of galaxies and black holes in the simulation were recorded. After all the computing work was done (28 days, at a rate of 200 billion calculations per second) 20 million galaxies were formed in the initial space. These galaxies and the dark matter around them formed web-like structures that resemble the shapes observed by the most recent data available in cosmic surveys, such as the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. Also very importantly: the simulation provided support for our current "standard model" of cosmology, the so called: Lambda Cold Dark Matter Model. The Ulster Resistance militia was formed to destroy the IRA in a doomsday scenario where the British government would pull out of Northern Ireland. Despite shipping thousands of weapons and millions of rounds of ammunition into the country, they were never needed as the IRA eventually surrendered in the 1990s.

Tommy James (born Thomas Gregory Jackson, 29 April 1947, Dayton, Ohio) is an American pop-rock musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer, best known as leader of the 1960s rock band Tommy James and the Shondell In 1958, when Tom was eleven, his family moved to Niles, Michigan. That year he formed his first unofficial band "The Echoes" with four of his friends from school. In 1959, at the age of twelve, James formed what would be recognized as his first official band "Tom and the Tornadoes". A year later the band changed its name to The Shondells. By 1964, a local DJ at WNIL radio station in Niles formed his own record label, Snap Records. The Shondells were one of the local bands the DJ recorded at WNIL studios. One of the songs was the Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich ditty "Hanky Panky", which they recorded as The Raindrops. The song was a hit locally, but the label had no resources for national promotion and it was soon forgotten. In 1965, a DJ in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, found a copy of "Hanky Panky" and played it as a station "exclusive". Listener response was positive, with many wanting to know where they could get a copy of the "new" single. Another DJ started playing the song at local dance parties. Severe Storm Chase: OKC Hail & Norman Tornado Damage 4/13/2012
On April 13, 2012, severe HP Supercells formed in SW Oklahoma and moved into Central Oklahoma, one after another. I got to chase the first one that formed and moved into the OKC Metro. After I got washed out with rain, wind, and hail in SW OKC, a surprise tornado covered by heavy rain formed right in Norman and cut across the main part of town before dissipating. It again produced near Shawnee, OK. The clips of damage at the end were taken near I-35 and Lindsey St. in SW Norman at Red Robin, Johnny Carino's, and Jason's Deli. Unfortunately I was out of position when the storm turned and I could not get the tornado on film.

Intact inner mitochondrial membrane b. Electron transport creates a proton gradient c. ATP is made by movement of protons back into the mitochondria 2. Coupling of electron transport and oxidative phosphorylation at a practical level means that the mitochondrial inner membrane remains impermeable to protons, except for those that enter via the ATP synthase and result in ATP production. 3. The ATP synthase consists of a turbine-like structure containing 3 sites called Loose (L), Tight (T), and Open (O). Functions of these forms include L - Holds ADP and Pi in preparation for ATP formation O - Releases ATP formed in T and binds ADP + Pi T - Causes ADP and Pi to join and form ATP 4. Also, Texas has formed a small counter-clockwise rotating storm (mini low pressure system) .. which is heading ESE towards Houston. In the Midwest.. Nebraska, Iowa, and North Kansas -- we see another developing line of weaker storms.. which may break out as the day goes on ... into hail and damaging winds. Up north.. Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, North Dakota, and Montana... strong cell thunderstorms are in the direct area -- and will continue throughout the day, into tomorrow. Barış Manço - Sarı Çizmeli Mehmet Ağa
Manço was born in Istanbul, Turkey on January 2, 1943. His mother Rikkat Uyanık was a famous singer in early 1940s. His older brother, who was born during World War II, was named Savaş ("war" in Turkish) while he was named Barış ("peace" in Turkish) by his parents to celebrate the end of the war. Allegedly he was the very first person to have this first name, which is now fairly popular in Turkey. During his primary school days, his head was shaven to prevent head lice, a serious threat back then. He mentioned that it was one of the reasons of his later signature long hair. During his highschool days in Galatasaray Lisesi (and later in Şişli Terakki High School) he formed his first band Kafadarlar ("The Buddies"), allegedly upon seeing Erkin Koray and his band performing which were all students of a nearby highschool. Asaf Savaş Akad, a famous economist in Turkey was the saxophone player of the band and Ender Enön the guitarist of the band made their own guitar, because it was difficult to find a real one on the market in those years . In 1962 and 1963, with his next band Harmoniler ("The Harmonies"), he recorded cover versions of some of the then popular American twist songs, but also rearrangements of Turkish folk songs in rock and roll form, marking the beginning of Anatolian rock movement, a synthesis of Turkish folk music and rock.
