Frazier vs. Foreman - On the Sunshine Island, January 22, 1973 THE FIGHT Foreman and Frazier were two very different fighters. Foreman fought flat out, all guns full steam ahead, while Frazier, kept his left hook ready, waited and took blows, hoping to wear down his opponents. On the night of January 22, 1973, both men fought true to form. Foreman came out like a giant hurricane, swinging strongly, while Frazier held back, bobbing and weaving confidently. Almost immediately Foreman landed a solid punch to Frazier's gut and then, two light lefts and a right uppercut the first of many that would take the champ down. He was up in two but forced to wait for the mandatory eight count. He landed a solid left hook the only real blow Foreman took that night. In response, Foreman backed Smokin' Joe into the ropes and landed a hard left and right to the head. Five more rights and a set-up left followed and down went Frazier again. Again he took the eight count only to get up and run straight into a long, hard right to his head that sent him back to the canvas where he remained two counts after the bell had rung ending Round One. Round Two. Frazier emerged on the attack and was met with a left and a right to the jaw that dropped him again. After the mandatory eight count, he stood, dazed, flailing his punches and stumbling onto a right that lifted him off the floor and send him packing to the mat with a leg bent at an inopportune angle. George Foreman vs Muhammad Ali - George Foreman defends the Heavyweight Championship of the World for the third time against former Champion, Muhammad Ali. Ali at 32, had been given little change against the fearsome puncher who had knocked out both Frazier and Norton, whom both had beaten ali in the past, in 2 rounds. The fight took place in Kinshasa, Zaïre (todays Congo), and was put together by promotor Don King. This is considered by many as the most significent fight of Muhammad Alis career. In 1976, he returned to boxing in Las Vegas against Ron Lyle, (who had been defeated by Muhammad Ali in 1975 by a TKO in round 11, while leading on all scorecards by 6-4) in a fight hailed by Ring Magazine as "The Fight Of The Year." At the end of the first round, Lyle landed a hard left that sent Foreman staggering across the ring. In the second round, Foreman pounded Lyle against the ropes and might have scored a KO, but due to a timekeeping error the bell rang with a minute still remaining in the round[citation needed] , and Lyle survived. In the third, Foreman pressed forward, with Lyle waiting to counter off the ropes. In the fourth, a brutal slugfest erupted. A cluster of power punches from Lyle sent Foreman to the canvas. When Foreman got up, Lyle staggered him again, but just as Foreman seemed finished he retaliated with a hard right to the side of the head, knocking down Lyle. Lyle beat the count, then landed another brutal combination, knocking Foreman down for the second time. Again, Foreman beat the count. In the fifth round, both fighters continued to ignore defense and traded their hardest punches. Each man staggered the other and each seemed almost out on his feet. Then, as if finally tired, Lyle stopped punching and Foreman delivered a dozen unanswered blows until Lyle collapsed. The fight was stopped and Foreman was declared the winner.

Joe Frazier defends his Heavyweight Championship against the murderous punching George Foreman. Foreman shockingly destroys Frazier by knocking him down 6 times in 2 rounds. It's an all time legendary fight and career defining performance for Big George Foreman. I mixed in the commentary call from the two legendary announcers, Don Dunphy and Howard Cosell. If you notice, I slowly start off the fight with mostly Don Dunphy announcing the fight. But as the fight gets more dramatic Howard Cosell's infamous "Down goes Frazier" can be heard. As the realization of Frazier losing becomes more eminent I switch the call back to the Don Dunphy call as the intensity subsides and the looming tone of sadness arises. It's important to note Frazier's training wasn't at the same intensity as it was in the past, and the grueling fight with Ali definitely took a little out of Frazier. At any rate, Foreman makes a thunderous impact as a powerful and formidable fighter in the Heavyweight division.
