FOAM ROLLER EXERCISES

Rolling with your MuscleRoll is one of the best, most effective, and most pleasurable ways to give yourself a soothing deep muscle massage. The patent pending 18-rib technology on your MuscleRoll allows you to have many points of contact on the muscle tissue and on the trigger points, which ultimately reduces pain and discomfort. Your MuscleRoll is made of a baby-soft material that exhibits a smooth surface and offers excellent flexibility and resilience. It is buoyant, strong, shock absorbent, flexible, and it is resistant to mildew, mold, rot, and bacteria; it also has a superior chemical resistance. Your MuscleRoll outperforms and outlives other foam rollers, and its unique rib technology, compared to other foam rollers, delivers a superior experience every time. The process involved when using your MuscleRoll is called Self Myofascial Release (SMR), which is a technique used to release tension and realign the body. (The word "myofascial" is derived from the Latin words myo, meaning "muscle," and fascia, meaning "band.") Fascia is tough connective tissue that spreads throughout the body in a three-dimensional web, from the head to the toes. Fascia surrounds every muscle, bone, nerve, and organ in the body. In its normal healthy state, the fascia is relaxed and able to move without restriction. When the human body engages in any type of activity, whether it's daily walking, standing, light exercise, or strenuous exercise, we generate slight micro-tears in our muscle ...

Swan with Foam Roller Pilates Exercise

This video illustrates the Swan on the Foam Roller exercise. This is a great exercise for extension. Form is extremely important on this exercise. Swan on the Foam Roller targets the back extensors, transversus abdominis, rectus abdominis, obliques, and the scapula stabilizers. Focus on maintaining cervical and thoracic alignment. Stabilize the scapulae throughout the movement and avoid sinking into the shoulders. Maintain abdominal engagement throughout the exercise to support the lumbar spine and prevent the lumbar from overextending. To modify this exercise, lift the upper body only as far as abdominal support can be maintained. As a reminder, always consult your doctor for medical advice and treatment before starting any exercise program. If you should experience any pain or discomfort, please discontinue the exercise and consult your doctor.

Top Hip Exercises with Foam Roller to Improve Running Speed and Power

The Best Hip Exercises to Improve Running Speed and Power "Cleaning up the Hips" Tim Brewster, MSPT, CSCS Pro Trainer and Sports Physical Therapist Train Boston Sports Center, Wellesley, MA Runners want to run. They want to get faster, increase distance, and improve running endurance. But many runners don't have the proper muscular balance in their hips, both in regards to strength and flexibility....and this can lead to knee pain, hip pain, back pain, and decreased running performance. When you run, by nature of the mechanics of running, you primarily activate the quadriceps, hip flexors, and calves. The result of the other hip muscles such as the hip rotators, extensors, and ad/adductors become relatively weak compared to them. Over time, the hips become out of balance and the body may experience a drop in running performance. Additionally, these imbalances can lead to poor biomechanics that many times lead to pain or injury. Throughout the fall and winter, I will be doing a series that focuses on top training tips that can be done anywhere; at your training center, at home, or on the road. Owner and professional sports trainer / physical therapist at Train Boston Sports Center in Wellesley, metowests' premier sports training and physical therapy center, I want to help show you simple exercises that you can do in a few minutes can greatly improve your performance and decrease pain. Direct myofascial release seeks for changes in the myofascial structures by stretching, elongation of fascia, or mobilising adhesive tissues. The practitioner moves slowly through the layers of the fascia until the deep tissues are reached.

Myofascial Release with The Foam Roller by Tuan Tran

Self-Myofascial Release Techniques Would you believe that your client's function could be improved for less than $20? Sound too good to be true? By performing Self-Myofascial Release techniques on a simple piece of foam, your clients can improve flexibility, function, performance, and reduce injuries. In a nutshell, your clients use their own body weight to roll on the round foam roll, massaging away restrictions to normal soft-tissue extensibility. And your clients can perform this program at home, maximizing their recovery time. KINETIC CHAIN CONCEPTS For the health and fitness professional to understand how this "magical" foam roll does all that, a basic understanding of the kinetic chain must be acknowledged. The kinetic chain is made up of the soft tissue system (muscle, tendon, ligament, and fascia), neural system (nerves and CNS), and articular system (joints)6. The kinetic chain works as an integrated functional unit. All components of the kinetic chain exist interdependently. If one segment is not functioning efficiently, then the other components must compensate, leading to tissue overload, fatigue, faulty movement patterns, and finally initiates the Cumulative Injury Cycle3,5,10,12. For example, muscle tightness restricts the range of motion that a joint may be moved. Because of muscle restriction (tightness, soft tissue adhesions, and neural-hyperactivity), joint motion is altered, thus changing normal neural feedback to the CNS (central nervous system ...
