Greetings once again all and thank you for all your comments, likes, favorites, and such on all of my videos while I was away. I haven't been able to check in on this account for a few months so if you have sent me an email or response and haven't heard back I apologize for not being able to answer them, something I will try to make up for in the following week. Alright... info on the video itself... Man, you guys, I wanted to RAGE QUIT this video so many times. SO MANY. Right out the gate I had issues getting the sound portion in an acceptable state. Once I made the choice to apply custom sounds to the sound-free music version, I struggled something fierce trying to find all the sounds I needed to make it work. You'd be surprised how hard it is to find the proper sound effects that aren't covered by background noise. My initial concepts for the video altered pretty greatly from what the version you see here turned out. Sweetie Bell (or the tiny monkey in the actual game) was originally going to be Spike, but after the Sisterhooves Social episode, I couldn't help myself (and yeah, that probably gives you an idea how long this video was in gestation for). In keeping with the original game, I was desperately searching for that grunting noise ...

Delivering a foal
This mare was laboring heavily, but delivery was not progressing. I was called to assist, and found that the foal had one foreleg folded back which was impeding the process. We later learned that the foal had slightly contracted tendons which probably caused the improper presentation. After correcting the presentation, I continued to apply traction to assist the exhausted mare deliver the rather large foal.

My Paso Fino mare, Pintura, has just given birth to her firstborn foal. This video was taken just after he slid almost all the way out of her. If you look carefully you can see that his hind feet are still inside her. He is sopping wet from amniotic fluid and his umbilical cord is still attached to the placenta. LCC 2010 Nurse Mare Foals
These are nurse mare foals from the 2010 season. A nurse mare foal is a foal that was born only so that its mother would produce milk. It's mother is then sent off to nurse a "more valuable" baby, and these nurse mare foals are 'disposed of'. They are essentially a byproduct of the industry. The Last Chance Corral in Athens, Ohio, rescues as many of these orphans as they can and places them in loving homes. This video is of the foals playing in the big paddock for the first time! This is a full live birth of a gypsy cob horse (dam) giving birth with assistance from Mike Nenni at his farm. The Sire is SD Laddie and the Mare is Royal Princess. The Stallion and the Foal: "Spanish Confrontacion" by Jimmy Gelhaar, www.JimmyG.us While photographing in the McCullough Peaks Wild Horse Management Area in April 2008, we came upon one of the most unusual and dramatic situations I've seen since I began documenting the wild horses. My husband and I were told that there was possibly an abandoned foal in the company of a bachelor stallion known as "Chaco. Two of the more plausible reasons why this foal had been abandoned are that a visitor had gotten too close to a new mother who consequently abandoned the foal, or, that the mare foaled very close to the fence line (as seen in the photos) and the foal simply rolled under the fence where the mare was unable to reach it. In any case, Chaco became this foal's guardian and he took this responsibility very seriously as evidenced when another bachelor stallion, "Chiricahua" came to investigate the pale Palomino-colored youngster. The images depict the longest and most fierce stallion battle I have ever witnessed. Were we about to watch this little foal get caught up in and probably trampled during this stallion confrontation? That was not an image I wanted to capture. (Maybe Chiricahua simply wanted the baby as a prize, like a mare. I don't know that his intentions were to actually hurt the foal, but he certainly gave his all vying for possession). As night fell, we knew we had to leave, but I was sick about it as I felt sure there would be no happy ending for this little baby ...

I didn't find any videos on youtube yet of her as a foal. I found some pictures the other day that I have never seen of Rachel as a foal so I decided to share them with you, she is about 3-5 months in these pictures. Now most of you know Rachel Alexandra but if you dont here is abit of a biography of her. Rachel Alexandra (foaled January 29, 2006 in Kentucky) is a retired American Thoroughbred filly racehorse and the 2009 Horse of the Year. She is renowned as the May 16, 2009 winner of the Preakness Stakes, the second jewel of the Triple Crown, the first filly to win the race in 85 years (since Nellie Morse, 1924). She was the impressive winner of races in six states (KY, LA, AR, MD, NY, NJ), on 8 different tracks, against fillies and Grade 1 colts and older horses, achieving a long string of consecutive wins including numerous Grade 1 stakes. Often considered alongside Ruffian as the greatest 3-year old filly in thoroughbred racing history, Rachel Alexandra neared or broke multiple stakes records, track records, and winning margin records throughout her career. On September 28, 2010, owner Jess Jackson announced Rachel Alexandra would be retired, ultimately to be bred to 2007/2008 Horse of the Year, Curlin. Thunder - A PMU Foal
This precious foal is the by-product of the PMU industry, one of thousands every year, though the numbers are falling with each closing PMU farm. His Dam, Feather, is a rescued PMU mare who had one hoof in the auction ring. Her chances of going to slaughter were very great as she is blind in one eye. Shahndel adopted her, sight unseen, and has never regretted a minute of their new life together!
