I been meaning to sign up for IRIS (retinal scanner) last year when it was being beta-tested but I kept on forgetting. Finally I remembered on this trip abroad. Here is me coming back into the UK via the IRIS system. Went through the UK Borders in less than 10 seconds, without taking out my passport from my pocket, and skipping those long queues you see. You've heard about the passenger who opted out of a full-body scan (aka "a virtual strip search") and was subjected to an intrusive and humiliating pat down. "If you touch my junk, I'll have you arrested," passenger John Tyner told Transportation Security Administration workers in San Diego. Well, rest easy, John—and other passengers offended by both full-body scans and hands-on searches. TSA won't touch your junk—or your breasts or buttocks. If they begin to strip search passengers as if they're prison inmates, they'll do just what correctional officers do: They'll make you do all the nasty work. What follows is an excerpt from a training video for prison guards on how to make sure that inmates aren't hiding contraband. The video makes for extremely uncomfortable watching and viewer discretion—and outrage—is advised. He was accompanied by the officer that had escorted me to the ticketing area and Mr. Silva. He informed me that I could not leave the airport. He said that once I start the screening in the secure area, I could not leave until it was completed. Having left the area, he stated, I would be subject to a civil suit and a $10000 fine. I asked him if he was also going to fine the 6 TSA agents and the local police officer who escorted me from the secure area. After all, I did exactly what I was told. He said that they didn't know the rules, and that he would deal with them later. They would not be subject to civil penalties. I then pointed to Mr. Silva and asked if he would be subject to any penalties. He is the agents' supervisor, and he directed them to escort me out. The first part of this video shows arrivals landing on Runway 24R, shot from a park across from the In-N-Out Burger on Sepulveda Blvd. The remainder of the video covers departures (and some taxi video) of aircraft departing from the southern complex of LAX, utilizing Runway 25R. I took the day not knowing what to expect in terms of any special schemes, but I got a boat load of them on this outing! I can't explain why there was a water cannon ceremony for the Lan Chile 767-300, and I don't know what happened to that one United Airlines A320. I did have the scanner going but ended up turning it off because for some reason it'd flip between frequencies. Departures were shot from a spot that is universally known as Imperial Hill. Ifyou are interested in purchasing DVDs of specific aircraft and/or of airshows, interested in anything and everything related to airshows (where the jet teams will show up, all airshow performers, airshow reports from airshows I have attended, previews of airshows I will be attending, etc.), a much more easier to navigate "version" of all of my videos, and/or everything there is related to aviation - including spotting guides to my favorite airports and military bases and aircraft ...
