Hustle & Flow
DJay is a Memphis hustler who spends most days in a parked Chevy philosophizing about life while Nola (Taryn Manning), turn tricks in the backseat. He's not very good at pimping, but he can hustle almost anything or anyone and makes enough to keep himself and three girls satisfied and housed in his shotgun home. DJay however is in the midst of a midlife crisis| he quietly harbors dreams of becoming a respected rapper. When he learns from a local club owner, Arnel (Isaac Hayes), that rap mogul Skinny Black (Ludacris), is rolling through town, DJay decides to record his flow with the hopes of slipping his demo to Skinny. With little help from his friends and "family" DJay sets in motion the hustle of his life, and galvanizes the lives of those around him as they learn that "Everybody's gotta have a dream."

Charlie Rich - "Rollin With the Flow"
This song, "Rollin' With the Flow", and the photos I've put together are for all the Charlie Rich fans. It was written by Jerry Hayes, and released in 1977 by Epic Records. It seemed fitting to put this song together with several photos of Arkansas because Charlie was born here, in Colt, in 1932. He lived most of his adult life in Memphis with his devoted wife, Margaret Ann, who, being an exceptionally talented songwriter, wrote many of his songs. Charlie passed away in July of 1995, in Hammond La, of an embolism in his lung, following an acute respiratory infection. Having been a heavy smoker all his life, Charlie also suffered from emphysema which became severe during his later years. He's been gone for almost twelve years now but he is still missed by so many. His music will live on in our hearts.

Augmented Reality Sandbox with Real-Time Water Flow Simulation
Video of a sandbox equipped with a Kinect 3D camera and a projector to project a real-time colored topographic map with contour lines onto the sand surface. The sandbox lets virtual water flow over the surface using a GPU-based simulation of the Saint-Venant set of shallow water equations. We (the UC Davis WM Keck Center for Active Visualization in the Earth Sciences, www.keckcaves.org) built this for an NSF-funded project on informal science education. These AR sandboxes will be set up as hands-on exhibits in science museums, such as the UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center (TERC) or Lawrence Hall of Science.
