Coconut Kung-Fu Master Retires
In the Malaysia's historical city of Malacca lives Kung-Fu Master Ho Eng Hui. He has mastered the art of breaking open coconuts with his index finger. For eight long years, his performances at the popular Jonker Street have drawn large crowds of locals and tourists alike. Yet all the smashing of coconuts has taken a toll on his "finger of steel." [Ho Eng Hui, Kung-Fu Master]: "It was broken. I thought I was finished but I persevered and kept on thinking that I would be famous. That's how I got this finger that has fed my whole family." Ho often appears to be in severe pain during his performances and needs assistance removing his finger from the coconut. But after a quick application of medicinal oils he claims to feel no pain. The tourists love him. [Jamie Greenhough, Canadian Kung-Fu Enthusiast] "It's a true art. He is a skillful Kung-Fu master." But Ho is contemplating retirement and a long deserved rest for his finger. In 2001, he entered the Malaysia Book of Records for breaking three coconuts in one minute and 11 seconds, in quick succession. The record remains unchallenged till today.

Aliakbar Moradi, master of Tanbour, plays an introduction at Shahram Nazeri's concert in London. -------------------------------------------- Tanbur / Tanbour: The tanbur is the ancestor to most long-necked, plucked stringed instruments. Its pear shaped belly is normally carved out of one piece of mulberry wood with a long neck and fourteen gut frets. Some modern tanburs are made of bent ribs of mulberry wood. The sound board, 3-4 millimeters thick, is also made of mulberry wood which has numerous small holes for better resonance. The tanbur has a unique playing technique by which the strings are strummed with the fingers of the right hand to produce a very full and even tremolo called shorr (literally meaning the pouring of water). This technique along with various kinds of plucking, usually with the index and pinky fingers, enables the musicians to produce different effects and various rhythmic accentuations which imitate the natural sounds of their environment such as a running stream, a water fall, a bird chirping or a horses' gallop, all translated into musical rhythms and sounds. The ancient tanbur used to have two silk or in some instances gut strings tuned in 4th or 5th, similar to the dotar (meaning two stringed), its close relative widely used in Eastern Iran. It has also been regarded as the tanbur of Khorasan in literary texts. Unlike its DVD incarnations (such as GoodTimes' The Young Bruce Lee), the original US home video release by Allied Artists in 1976 was distributor Dick Randall's cut. Entire scenes of the production's not-particularly-interesting drama were replaced with action-packed sequences taken from three other films, and passed off as if Bruce Lee had directed them. Directed by Ling Ping, and featuring an excellent rendition of Johnny Pate's Shaft in Africa (Addis) as its main theme, this videotape presentation provides plenty of cheap thrills with some memorable dialogue. Here's a fingerstyle pattern which only uses the thumb and index finger of the right hand. It's split up in two videos. This is video 1 and video 2 will feature some variations (Using more fingers) to this harp finger pattern. It's split up in different exercises. I provide my tabs and lessons for free and I don't want any money for it.
